The urge to reload

reload and then run back to the start of the level and grab the ammo pack you couldn't pick up because you had full ammo then run back to the end and finish the level.

Is there any vidya that allows you reload magazines early and just cycle through them? Like, you get a magazine down to 15 bullets, reload, then eventually reload that same magazine and have 15 bullets?

For me, it's magazine based games instead of fraction based.

Somebody should make an FPS where the character can reload fast.

Anon, nobody likes that shit. Either make it quick by default or have no reloads at all.

No QTE. The character is a veteran soldier with fast hands.

regular boots will just magdump at the general direction enemy fire came from. Operators have reload OCD trained into them.

that depends on caliber and where you're shot. and its not a guarantee now that body armor is mostly standard issue. the biggest threat is artillery, not small arms.

you can't irl because then you have to go and store the half used mag and it's annoying. one of the advantages of the bongistani lee-enfield is that they had 10 round mags but 5 round clips so you could top them off after you shot 5 rounds and as long as there were 5 or fewer rounds you could fit the whole clip in. so you could shoot like 7 and then stick a clip in and have 8. whereas you had to run all the other WWI/WWII guns dry to put a new clip in unless you loaded like half a clip or something

Remember, the leading cause of gunshot wounds is blood loss not the amount of hits like in video games.
Unless you've blown away the man's head, always treat a man you've shot as still active.
>>
>>737613839
the old rainbow 6 games worked like that
>>
>>737617673
Probably not a mod. There's a gun in game that has 500 clip size.
>>
>>737612852
Make all unspent ammunition in the magazine disappear from the players ammo count along with the prematurely reloaded magazine a standard feature and watch this practice die.
>>
>>737617953
if bloodloss kills more than gunshots, then why aren't the military hiring vampires to suck combatants dry of their blood?

BLACK having different animations for reloading depending on whether you were in combat or not is one of the best mechanics around reloading in vidya and I'm sad it's not more common.
>>
Black was a horrible game

Because they can only do night missions.

>>737618258
what did they do, just drop the mags in combat?
>>737618179
he's right about the bloodloss thing. if you lose like 40% of your blood you die and if you are shooting someone at 200 yards you are more likely not hitting vitals and are just making the guy bleed out
>>
>>737618129
I thought it was buyed
>>
In Mafia 1 og why does Tommy just throw away the mag which still has ammo left? Why doesn't he just put it in his jacket?

God I love Hunt.
>some guns will eject a round if you do a partial reload (which you can catch if you have a specific trait equipped)
>you can also hold the trigger down to stop the cycle after firind a round so that you can do a partial reload without wasting a bullet
>some guns with speed loaders will dump everything no matter what has and hasn't been spent
>dual wielding guns naturally take ages to reload, but one trait can speed it up and often unlocks a different animation altogether
>almost every gun has dedicated animations per the number of rounds spent (eg: with revolvers you have to watch them pry out the empty casing and replace it one by one). so there are no generic hand wave-y reload animations for any weapon

So simple, but so cool.
>>
>>737618258
Crysis also does it, though simpler.
>normal situation, no combat
>reload methodically
>during combat
>quickly and violently jamming the magazine back into the gun
>cloaking
>reload slowly and quietly

>what did they do, just drop the mags in combat?
Nah, different and faster animations. For example (it's been a while since I played so maybe not 100% accurate), for the M16's calm reload your character glances at the bullets in the magazine before putting them into the gun, while in combat the magazine is directly loaded without inspection. Similarly, the MP5's calm reload has your guy miss the magazine catch the first time (example here, with the fast reload being about 10 seconds after: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwbAWLY-qEM&t=6484s)
It's a very neat game, they put a ton of effort into the guns but also didn't care about realism because they wanted it to look cool, like with the AK's ejection port being on the opposite side so you can see the casings fly in front of your face.
>>
>>737618976
Bloodrayne 1 did this too and I loved it. Made you actually try new guns out and get a feel for them instead of falling back on 1-2 you prefer.
>>
>>737613103
They're not running around in a match of Nuketown where an enemy could jump round a corner at them at any second
>>
>>737612995
the mauser doesn't have elaborate bolt hold open and would close as soon as you take out the stripper clip
>>

>>737612934
Hell yea that's me.
Same with medikits.
>>
>>737613103
They have limited ammunition and if they change the magazine they lost all the ammo, the bullet don't magically teleport in the new magazine, its like throwing in the bin you fried chicken bucket after just one leg because you want it always full.

Zero hour has the most complete ammo system I've seen, not only it saves each magazine separated with its ammo, you can hit R twice fast for a very quick reload where the character drops the mag on the ground or you press R once and the character will do a slow reload, but save the mag in the inventory.
>>
>>737620602
hello saar

lots of tactical shooters do this

I wonder what would Max Payne games or shit be with realistic ammo handling (even tho 1&2 let you keep like twelve weapons in your jacket anyway, 3 not so much). Like would it be interesting in anyway or would it come down always picking a new weapon and then just checking your mags when the enemies are all dead.

Nothing happens. Braindead a.i. Copypasta locations and assets. Shit story. Guns don't feel fun to use. Literally just half assed destruction is all it has and it's not fun because there's no reason to do so. It was a novelty at release now it's just dated and cringe. Play it right now. I dare you. I enjoyed the gimmick at release but I replayed it last year and it was a boring slog and technical mess.

Red Orchestra 1 & 2, and by extension Rising Storm and Darkest Hour (idk about Rising Storm 2, never got around to playing it, but I assume).

The OFP/ArmA series as well.
