Why can’t they top it?
>>737613565Terrible game, 6/10. Feels like a prototype.StarFox Assault is if SF64 was any good.
they always have to inject some retarded gimmick instead of just playing it straight and making an actual sequel
>>737613565Because instead of making StarFox 64 2, they either do stupid gimmick bullshit like in Zero, or hand it off to some fuckass company to do whatever the hell they want with it like Adventures, Assault, and Command.
>>737613668>implying that sf64 was "playing it straight"its a random dogshit prototype game. multiplayer might have been cool but everything else is ass.Every other railshooter StarFox games is better, including Zero.
>>737613825Worst take I've heard in ages. Contrarian just for contrarian's sake. I beg you, touch grass.

I finished playing Starfox 2 recently, it was fun. Really impressive how they depicted 3D on the SNES.
It doesn't really work without Andross as the overall big bad with an army of colorful baddies. They killed him off too early and it's been basically remaking the battle with him each time after that. Robot bugs that don't really talk aren't the same.
>>737613565they haven't really fucking tried at all
>>737613565It has the Age of Empires II problem, they already created perfection.
>>737617569In some ways I always felt that was an inherent problem with Star Fox, yeah: its story was pretty much already over by the end of SF64. Fox had his entire character arc, he avenged his father and followed in his footsteps, the story kinda essentially ends with Andross' death. And from there, assuming you're not just retelling that story again, you either have to come up with some contrived reason to bring Andross back like in Adventures or just make up new villains out of nowhere that feel like cheap knock offs like the Aparoid Queen and especially the Anglar Emperor. Both of which honestly just kinda cheapen Fox's victory back on Venom back in SF64. It still cracks me up that Takaya Imamura's first suggestion for a SF64 sequel was basically a soft reboot set like 20 whole years later with Fox approaching his 40s, which in a way is what happens in Adventures, just cut down to eight years instead.
>>737613565they did several times in the 2000s.
OP wants a lust penis
>>737613631i kind of disagree, assault is linear and doesn't have multiple paths/endingscommand is close but everyone hates it because it is difficult to emulate
>>737619953>but everyone hates it because it is difficult to emulateEveryone hates Command because its shit
>>737620095What about zero? ...I liked it.
Honestly is this game actually that good? I think a lot of love for it is nostalgia. I have nostalgia for it too, but whenever I go back and try to play it, I find myself not enjoying it very much. A lot of the levels are boring, because the game is just too easy. The gameplay just isn't that involved, you fly forward and shoot, and unless you're trying to get the medals or something it often feels more like you're watching a movie than playing a game. The only hard levels are ones where you pilot the tank or sub and that's moreso because the controls for those vehicles are pretty bad. The lack of a save feature really sucks, and replaying the game is always kind of a bore because you have to do the same levels every time. A level select feature could have been nice.
>>737620242Zero is alright, but like this other anon mentioned, every game is held back by gimmicksZero had the carrier missionsCommand had the touch screen controlAssault had ground missions, but was probably the closest to the SF64 quality,
>>737620454if you have beaten the hard route of the game theres not much reason to replay except for nostalgia or score. I'm not a scorefag so it was meaningless to me. having lived through it when it was new its genuinely challenging for tweens and younger teens and requires practice, however, if you are used to arcade cabinet levels of difficulty you may be underwhelmed.
