Seeing a lot of threads about the new Sony DRM policy of verifying every 30 days.

I'm guessing this might be to combat grey market piracy, where games are being sold either via account trading (you buy the account, log in on your console, go offline, and then play the game attached to that account on your main account) or where people are selling piracy (uploading games to consoles for a fee).

I actually watched this the other day and it was pretty interesting:

It's about Pakistan's grey market for piracy. You literally walk to a shop with a USB/your console, and they put the games on there for a tiny fee. The guy explains that this is because the games still cost western prices in Pakistan, and they can't afford £60+ games, which translates to like a full week's wages.

I imagine this same scene occurs in other places like India, Russia, Indonesia etc.

Honestly it's kind of based. We don't have this in the UK. I remember being able to get a PS1/PS2 modded/chipped as a kid, but nothing quite like this. I heard Camden market used to be a hotbed for pirated content, but I never went there.

I used to buy PS2 games like this. You bring the PS2 with the harddrive to the shop for 0.50 USD a game.

I believe you can't do this in first world countries since it's highly illegal lol

Back with a PS1, the trick used to be 'rent the game, copy the game,' but yeah it's pretty illegal. It's pretty cool in a way, because our brick and mortar stores for games barely exist anymore. We have like, CEX, and that's about it.
