What with entire songs with lyrics etc. being composed for Silent Hill games that are barely even in the game for more than 10 seconds? What's the point then? Imagine how shit that must feel for the artists

To flesh out the experience, and to provide an intended experience.
That's how it goes with ALL media. Small details sometimes make the biggest difference.

Artist.
All audio and music was made by Akira Yamaoka alone. And he's one of those absolute chad detail maniacs, that created over 200 FOOT STEP sounds for the Silent Hill 2 alone.

It's the zoom zoom "meh, good enuff! :^)" mentality that has been the downfall of the gaming industry for the past 20+ years now. If not the entire CULTURE as a whole.
Zero passion, zero love for their craft = soulless commercial husks.

I only knew the music for the longest time and was kinda baffled it wasn't even in the credits at least

you're blaming zoomers for the seventh gen when they were 10 years old at most.

There's 5 to 7 different endings in most SH games. Each with their own song.

Also, quite many SH tunes are "theme songs" used only in the intro, or marketing footage.

7th gen debuted 20 years ago, Anon.
The oldest zoomies are now 30.
They've simply adapted the casual slop mindset they consoomed as a kid.

Zoomers must be blamed, it is their fate

I always felt like lyrics in videogame songs 9/10 time come off as lame or corny and out of place and just distract you and remove you from immersion. Metal gear solid and it’s singing tracks are fucking cringe and most of them in sh are too. They don’t need them.

Snake Eater isn't cringe faggot
The Remake version is, though

correct me if I'm wrong but don't the lyric tracks only show up in titles and credits? at least as far as the core first 3 games. obvious exception of the ladder sequence.

It's only like that for 3 and its so listening to the OST feels like a real album and has the story being told through the songs. It's a really interesting experience.

the thread really didn't need to go beyond this post

OP, you ask "why did they add this entire song only for it to be in the game for 10 seconds? it's superfluous" well that's what gaming used to be; developers almost always used to go the extra mile because the passion was there. you could find entire songs, posters, instruction manuals, PC wallpapers, all sorts of stuff made by the developers that used to accompany just about every new game as a nice little bonus because they were focused on pouring their creativity into a single strong idea and product. none of this live service garbage. that's was how gaming culture used to be - it was thriving, alive

those days are over now

I think it comes off as contrived and trying way too hard to elevate something above what it actually is in a way that feels forced like they want it to be like a Hollywood movie . The game is already an art piece. It comes off as poor taste imo and goofy. I imagine Kojima with snake eater just tried to copy something like you would have heard in a James Bond film. it’s especially cringe because these are Japanese studios. They have no idea what sounds good in English to a western audience. They should just stick with what they are already doing music wise because they do a great job playing it straight just making creative videogame music which often is more memorable than these lame vocal tracpretending they’re feature film projects. similarly to how they overuse the fucking shit out of orchestra music to the point it’s basically a meme now and has basically no emotional
Effect and it sounds like stock music because of how many games fucking try and do that.
