My theory is the game started development as a separate action franchise (judging by the fact the first 75% of it has nothing to do with Ninja Gaiden) and then Xbox/Phil sama came in to get Platinum for a revival of an old Xbox franchise, so they reworked what they had to put Ryu in there for an hour or so, give Yakumo the handful of iconic NG moves, and slap Ninja Gaiden on the title.

Yeah NG2B wasn't censored because Pajeetsoft didn't fund it. They could barely stomach having a trailer for it.

However they did fund NG4 which is why the series for the first time has 2 playable men as opposed to playable girls and the only 2 girls that appear is a hag wine aunt version of Ayane and a nothing character that gets slaughtered halfway through the game by a side villain.
