The game had 60, 90, and 120 second jobs and you would be slightly rewarded for synergizing them, but every bit of content was clearable without doing so. Also bosses used to adjust their behaviors based on their remaining HP and not just the fight timeline which meant your big burst could be delayed or interrupted fairly dynamically since every party was going to have different DPS and therefore a different fight timeline so even a party of 2 minute jobs wouldn't necessarily be doing a big full burst every 2 minutes. The shift to fight timelines and later to only 2 minute jobs happened to make the 2% of people that care about fflogs happy. It's not unlike the removal of "useless" buttons like tank stance swapping since in a proper coordinated raid party you wouldn't be swapping, ignoring the fact that many people PF with retards and dynamically reacting to them was part of the fun. Coupled great with healer stances since when the healer would fuck up by greeding some DPS the tank could focus survivability.

I'm not personally extremely against two minute meta, but logically I can see its issues and I'm all for the way the new system and how the design paragdims for it will technically make the jobs harder?the evolve DRG looked way harder optimize than the current DRG since it will be faster paced and more fiddly with not fucking up your positionals. And PLD is objectively harder since timing counter attacks to boss damage will be a huge knowledge and timing check compared to the current iteration which is one of the easiest jobs in the game.I'm a bit more reserved regarding WHM but I think that in principle, focusing on gcd healing and making it damage neutral will be wayyyy healthier for the game. We'll have to see if it feels better to play though, but I think frequent gcd healing will help with breaking up the monotomy of WHM a bit at least?
