2026, the year of Linux gaming.
it will never be the year of the linux desktop. stop trying to make it happen. its never going to happen
I switched to AMD and now I can finally use gamescope without it constantly shitting itself. Feels good, man.
>>737621827Windows just works.™
There's literally no reason to switch from win10
Oh no no no winsisters...
>>737622008Ascend, bro!
>>737621827That was every year since 2018 actually.>>737621906He didn't say desktop :^)>>737622260There's no need to lie.
>>737621827>installed bazzite in October of 2025>works alright initially, but after a month or so have recurring file system corruption issues>basically have to reinstall my OS every month and re-download everything>also there are no easy and convenient MSOffice-like programs like paint.net, OpenOffice, etc. and I have to follow YouTube guides on figuring out which are good
>>737625282>paint.netonly motherfucker I really miss a lotthe basic paint program on mint is so ass it's practically unusable and I didn't have the patience to go through all the "top 10 paint.net alternatives on linux" lists, especially when every single one of them has fucking GIMP at #1I ended up just using Krita for quick image editing tasks since I had it installed for other stuff anyway, even though it's completely overkill
>>737625282What file system does it use?I've never had to reinstall due to issues with ext4.
>>737624157Can you do a Windows 11 LTSC comparison?
>>737624157Nice!
>>737625282I fucking hate it when distros push btrfs. It's absolutely dogshit at recovering from sudden powerloss.
>>737626709That has not been an actual issue with btrfs for the past 10 years. If you mean btrfs RAID, you don't use that, you make a btrfs filesystem on top of mdraid or LVM. For the so-called write hole with RAID, that's why you put your machine on a UPS and have it automatically begin properly powering down on mains loss for more than a minute.
>>737625282You can't blame the file system for telling you your drive is shit while it works fine for everyone else on a drive that works as it should
>>737621827I wanna swap to LinuxBut what the fuck is this? How are we still using Nvidia x server settings?I don't want a performance hit
>>737621827My Linux experience in 2026:>cursor stutters constantly>Firefox randomly crashes while using Google Maps>Chromium randomly crashes while doing anything>one time the GPU driver crashed and locked up the system>mpv refuses to consistently open in the middle of the screen. sometimes it opens in the middle and sometimes in the bottom right>when a game tries to open in folder in the file explorer it doesn't work at all>thumbnails in Dolphin don't get generated for some of the filesKDE Wayland with NVIDIA btw.Back to Windows I guess. I'll give it another try in 5 years.
>>737628458>>737628614>novideo>with linuxbut y
>>737628614>KDE>using a DE in general>goblin cardYou have only yourself to blame
In the future, Windows will have an always-on program that you cannot turn off or disable called "OneDrive Copyright Protection" that performs 3000 scans per week of your entire disk drive for any copyrighted content and "locks it down" when it finds any. It doesn't delete the file (to preserve evidence) but it just locks it so you can no longer edit, move, rename, or delete the file, or open it, or use it. And the file sits there in a locked-state as evidence against you and samples of your files are periodically sent to MS for evaluation and they can revoke your right to use windows if you are a repeat offender. If you say the illegal n-word then your computer instantly bricks and you need to buy a new one, but you can't sign up with your microsoft account anymore you need a new microsoft account too because your old one gets deleted instantaneously. If you have location services turned on for windows, just fyi, this is real by the way, then it sends like 5,000 location requests every week. Lol.
>>737629090NVIDIA cards are simply better, and Linux sucks on AMDGPU too, just slightly less.>>737629138I'm not an unemployed teenager, I'm not going to spend weeks configuring some reddit WM.
>>737628458I think 10 series got deprecated
>>737629291Funny, then, how your "better" card works like dogshit.Never had any issues with amdgpu, by the way. Skill issue.
>>737629291but all amd users use mesa not amdgpu, and its a lot better than both amdgpu and whatever bs novideo offers
>>737628614My recent experience has been Linux is not flawless but windows has become bad enough that it's almost a wash if you don't care about privacy and a win for Linux if you do
>>7376218272020 was the year of linux gaming and its been the year of Linux gaming ever sinceI'm on arch btw
>>737629551You're thinking of amdgpu-pro, anon
>>737629138There aren't any good WM's though. They're all tiling trash.
>>737626709>I HATE BTRFS(the system with the best snapshot integration) BECAUSE ITS TERRIBLE AT DATA RECOVERYyeah okay bud.....
>>737629378>Funny, then, how your "better" card works like dogshit. It works flawlessly in Windows, which is the only OS worth using anyway.>Never had any issues with amdgpu, by the way. Skill issue.I had an RX 6800 XT in the past and multiple times experienced GPU crashes that required a hard system reset. >>737629551By AMDGPU I just meant GPU from AMD.
>>737629693I have a 3070 on arch and it works fine thoughever. You did install the Nvidia-open package, right????
>>737621827soon swapping to cachyos because fuck microshaft and ai in general. also kek at the price difference in ~1year. 90 yurons and this is for the cheapest 4tb nvme that doesnt suck shit. samsung, wd, lexar and many others are around 550.
>>737621827why are linuxfags so obnoxious? you guys are starting to rival the tendies.
>>737629798Come on in, the waters warm
>>737629746Also on Arch, and I am using nvidia-open.
>>737629660It's good at data recovery until it's not.
>Linux exists>>737629798>WAAAAAAAH STOP ATTACKING MEJust don't open the thread.OP, for once, managed to create a Linux thread that doesn't invite Windows users to come in and cry. He didn't tell you to use Linux, and he didn't ask why you don't use Linux. You have no reason to be here.>UH, BUT YOU LINUX USERS ALWAYS SAY—No I didn't, and I don't care about what someone else wrote in some other thread.
>>737630598>deletes and recreates post>—I'm noticing
>>737630646If you don't know how to make an em dash, you're not fully human. I'm also not going to avoid punctuation marks just because AI overuses it, or whatever you're implying. And AIs don't make as many typos as I do. I wouldn't have to delete and re-post if that son of a bitch moot had given us an edit button.
>>737622008my linux gamign experience multiplied tenfold when i sold my 4070 for a 9070
>>737624157does cachy have the age verif that ubuntu and mint are forcing? Considering dipping from mint soon, considering they seem determined to keep ubuntu as the anchor about their necks.
>>737625918Windows 11 LTSC is literally the same as Windows 11. Maybe slightly worse.
>>737629798>why are linuxfags so obnoxious? you guys are starting to rival the tendies. It's actually less bad now. Used to be it was all boomers with a stick in their ass who refused to help any new users at all. At least now a lot of people are helping.
>>737632831>does cachy have the age verif that ubuntu and mint are forcingwhat the fuck, it's real I knew it was gonna happen eventually cause satan rules the world but it was way faster than I thought
>>737632831What does the age verification in Mint and Ubuntu look like? I haven't seen that, it sure wasn't present last time I used them.
>>737633189>>737633260It's not here yet, but i'd rather have options and ideas than not when it does arrive.
>>737633260 It's age attestation. They just ask for your age and you can put whatever number you want in it. They don't verify anything.
>>737633386slippery slope
>>737633386Attestation is verification. If they ask you to fill a field arbitrarily then that is not attestation, that's literally nothing. When you're installing noob Linux like Mint I'm pretty sure you can add your real name during setting up user account too and that's not identification or anything since you can write whatever bullshit you want there. I don't even know how to do that on Arch lmao.
>>737625282Do a RAM test gro
I'm genuinely surprised at how good it's getting now, I tried linux out years ago and it was an awful experience in terms of gaming. The only thing I can't fully get working is VR, but I barely used it in the first place, so it's not that much of a loss.
>>737633189This is the stupidest fucking tantrum, it's a completely optional field and means nothing. It cant be used to lock down anything. The real issue would be remote attestation which it has nothing to do with. Furthermore if remote attestation starts happening, linux will just be locked out of the internet and you'll need to use a (locked down) smartphone or windows with only approved software. distros and their policies will not matter
>>737634824You know anon, I was a big believer in having seperated programs on my task bar, but if you click an icon KDE will automatically bring up your last window, and if there are multiple instances you can keep clicking and it will expand them in order of last used. The fact that Windows has never done this and requires you to hover and select a window is fucking retarded.
>>737621827I switched to cachy os a month ago and everything works out of the box, even my audio interface. Gaming just works (nvidia card btw). There's no reason to stay on windows anymore if you are not a retard.
>>737632831isn't this age verification crap being integrated into systemd? so every distro that uses systemd will automatically get it
>>737637260I suggest you look up how the SystemD integration works.
>>737629798Because Linux groups have always been one giant moral circlejerk.
>>737636409>Cachyfag calling anyone else a retardNot only are you retarded for using Cachy when installing Arch has been easier than ever but you are also retarded for using a cucked Distro (Cachy devs support age verification laws)Just use Artix it's not that hard
>>737635034The field by itself is not the problem. It's the bending of the knee that can be turned into a slippery slope. It's what it represents, not what it is.
The year of Spoony is more likely
>>737637689>can be turned into a slippery slopeIt can't though. I normally sympathize with slippery slope arguments but there is no path down this slope. The field can't be turned into anything bad. And even if distros try to be more annoying, they'd be forked. Linux as-is is immune to this. The real danger is attestation, but if that happens, none of this matters anyway. The moaning is a distraction.
>>737621827>4GB GPUs gonna perform as good as 8GB gpus>8GB GPUs elevated to 12GB statusLinux is magic.
>>737639287>The field can't be turned into anything bad>"Send us your data and enforce it with an ID or get smitten by the law"
>>737625282>>737625726isn't Pinta explicity a Paint.Net clone?
