New Cry game: https://youtu.be/IvwQcEJzNp4

It's time to Alice.
>>
not really sold on a chibi deckbuilder(?) roguelite, but there's not much else to look forward to
the ui displaying your skills as a series of X presses makes it look really simple too, is it supposed to be vampire survivors inspired as well?

>another deck builder
and thread hidden, its a shame, the art instantly hooked me

God bless Japanese devs who keep releasing games with good art direction, decent stories but lacking gameplay.
Those guys are like the last bastion of defense for AA titles.

I am no longer going to Alice.

>>737621897
There's a ton of Crystar references in this for some reason
Alice's companion is just chibi Aristotle, her VA is the same as Mirai's, the Crystar OST remix, etc etc
I hope it's good, not sure how to feel about the roguelike stuff
>>
even though the art is nice it feels kind of lower budget
i wonder if crymachina didn't sell as much as they hoped
>>
Deckbuilder roguelikes are rapidly approaching open-world as the go-to marker for slop in the video game industry.
>>
>>737631083
>>737633587
>Trailer says it's a roguelike action game
>Shows gameplay reminiscent of Hades
Why are you calling it a deckbuilder?
Whether the random bonuses are presented as cards, artifacts or gear doesn't change anything about the core gameplay.
>>
>>737624036
AA japanese publishers always do this shit. This is why their games don't sell.

Time to Hanamaru and Alice in kind. But I really should play CRYSTAR.

Bump
>>
>>737632691
If you read the plot synopsis some of it sounds very similar to Crystar as well although framed as a death game. The girls are trying to earn the right to return to life. Even closer to Crystar than Crymachina's fighting to become human.

>>737633559
I feel they did it this way partly to make it quicker, Crymachina came out five years after Crystar while this is just three.
>>
>>737624257
Damn, no wonder I hated Crystar's story.
Same cheap drama brand of Maeda Jun and Okada Mari.

Actually Crystar would've been better as a full on roguelike instead of the half-assed Bravely Default thing it had going on.

If there's yuri between flatties then I'm potentially interested. Not crazy about rougelike stuff though.

Huh?
The game appears to be using a deck of playing cards for the theming of various abilities but is there anything to suggest you actually build a deck or draw cards or anything of the sort at all?
I don't think you build a deck of any kind of variety at all.

Seems like the cards are your "boons" if I was to compare it to something popular like Hades.
So yeah. They appear to be abilities. Passive and active.

Is it fun? It's 90% at the moment. But recent reviews are mixed.
Why are people upset?
>>
>>737645053
>Is it fun?
Not really. I'd say it's worth playing for the story especially when they're giving it away almost for free, but the gameplay has extremely little to offer.
>>
>>737621897
I downloaded a crack of Crystar, it didn't detect my controller, and I deleted it. Maybe it's fun the whole way through. I didn't check.
>>
Is it Crymelight(Crime Light) or Crymelight(Cry Me Light)?

kek
>>
>>737645693
The MC says it closer to the former at the end of the trialer. I think it's referring to the act of confessing one's sins, or bringing crimes to light.
>>
>>737645053
Not sure what's up with recent reviews but like the other anon mentioned you mostly play Crystar for non-gameplay aspects, the story music and art are all fantastic while the gameplay is okay at best
>>
>>737645693
JP title suggests the former

>Is it fun?
It's just okay, like an action game from the 2000's. Cool story, aesthetic, music, characters, premise, gameplay gimmicks, etc but the gameplay is just dodge + attack with special abilities. It's worth playing for the aspects that aren't gameplay though.

>recent reviews are mixed.
As a general rule all reviews are useless in modern day and you should only take them with a heaping of salt, but looking at them it seems they're all saying the same general thing. Either they think it's fine or it would be fine, followed by listing genuine problems it has like janky combat and a lot of repetition.
>>
Instead of turn-based Crymachina we get Alice in Spireland. Why? Especially after BR fucking up so massively, there is a market for turn-based yuri jrpgs.
>>
>>737648424
Furyu has other series for turn-based, Crywhatever has always been action.
>>
>>737648493
What kind of bot response is that? How does that have to do with anything i talked about?
>>
>>737648601
They wouldn't change the series to make it turn-based no matter how you think other unrelated series screwed that potential niche up. That's not what they're looking at to decide how to make their own games. Why would they suddenly go turn-based? Going from 3D action to 2D action is a departure, but not as much as going from action combat to turn-based would be. ì
>>
>>737648865
Just because they did two Cry games with very bad action combat, does not mean they have to keep doing it. I said it when Crymachina came out and i said it when Varlet released; They need to make a turn-based Crymachina game, as in, an actual turn-based yuri jrpg.
>>
>>737645053
It's one of those 5/10 games you play for the experience.

>>

I don't disagree, but I think they'd need to get such feedback from fans to attempt that.

Yes, Furyu.
>>
>>737650015
cool thx
>>
I didn't play any of the previous CRY games but this one looks the most interesting to me so far despite me not liking roguelike mechanics.
>>
the cry writer left the studio. so this cry game might be different in terms of what you would expect from a cry title
>>
>>737650136
Who are you referring to? Crystar was written by Naoki Hisaya, then both Crymachina and Crymelight credit him as scenario supervisor. Crymachina was written by Fuyuki Hayashi.
>>
>>737650136
This is written by Naoki Hisaya who also did Crystar
The person who left Furyu is Fuyuki Hayashi who worked as the director / producer on Crystar
>>
>>737650109
Roguelike only means that aspects of the gameplay and progression are randomized each run, so it doesn't really tell you much of anything about the actual gameplay or mechanics at all. You might just like the semi isometric action game layout a lot more than a generic action game from the xbox360/ps3 corridor era of design.
>>
>>737648424
i've played too many turn based jrpgs to really see anything new to explore, but i'm curious, what would you want specifically from a turn based yuri battle system?
i don't mean "there's a kiss button", but the battle system itself
>>
>>737651175
I would have enjoyed Crymachina much, muuuuch more if it had been turn-based. It does not matter to me if they keep it classic with a spin, like they usually do, or try to invent the wheel a bit more. The yuri should be in the story between the characters. Furyu clearly cant do proper action combat, so why keep bothering with it? Even a Varlet turn-based system, which is pretty bare-bones, would have been better. I mean, not even actionfags like the battlesystem.
>>
>>737651084
Random dungeons are fine but I don't like not keeping stuff that you find and this obsession with temporary buffs. There needs to be actual progression for me to enjoy it.
>>
>>737651475
Most "roguelikes" aren't actually like Slay the Spire where you barely have any progression outside of unlocking cards, these games tend to have some form of leveling mechanics or have the player gradually unlock features as you clear content. That's still not for everybody obviously, but it's not like you're a blank slate every time.

Personally I'm fond of roguelikes/roguelites since they kind of act like equalizers for indie and AA devs to stretch content out a bit more, before this trend you'd just get games like Crystar where the hallways and enemies are constantly repeated but the overall experience never changes until you actually reach a new floor. Ofcourse there's plenty of games that just use the roguelike approach to pad their games too, but Crystar might not be as much of a slog to play through if every time you had to repeat a floor (which was a lot) it was a little different each time.
