>>737622212I immediately corrected my sitting position when I saw this thread.The other day I was in the middle of writing a long ass post about Mario's personality in a thread that was something like "What things do people get wrong about vidya?" but I figured it wasn't relevant to the thread and didn't post it. To sum it up more succinctly, even if Shiggy is on record saying Mario is supposed to be bland to be inserted into any situation or be a vessel for the player, Mario still has canonical virtues and people can identify when he acts off, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten all those flash parodies years ago of Mario acting like a jackass since we know those vices are the opposite of who Mario is. Or at least I thought people did until the friends controversy, I had no idea some of those parodies were people's sincere projections. Mario doesn't save the princess because he wants to get laid, he does it because it's the right thing to do. I don't think the outraged people would appreciate being obligated to spread their buttcheeks if a fireman saved them from a burning building. Plus, just look at him, sex is probably the last thing on his mind.He's an actions speak louder than words kind of guy, and so much of his hope, optimism and determination is carried through the core concept of a tiny little guy in a blue collar outfit squaring up against towering crazy magic monsters and actually winning with a smile on his face and "YIPPEE" on his lips. I need to shut up so I will, though there's other things to be said about his competitiveness and (in my opinion) possible narcolepsy. And things other than that I'd need to consult my documents for since I can't remember everything off the top of my head.
