Isn't it really dangerous to have a town sit right next to a monster generator?

There is no better design, you want a hub where you do non combat things and that's the city, and you want a place where you fight and that's the dungeon, floors are simple and to the point difficulty line.

There is no game designed like this. Wizardry is the only one. Everything else to do with this design is an anime or manga.

Yes. But IRL we have built town in areas that are about as bad just because of some local produce that paid well enough. Hell that's how most fishing towns used to be, people living next to an area that could either kill them in a tsunami or an infine spawn of pirate attack unless there's enough angry men with pointy sticks around.

make open world game, no sense of progression, boring and pointless
make level based/static open world, you get bored of finding out where you can't go, or lean how to grab loot from high level areas, breaking the diffculty
what's the solution bros? how do we make a game world with freedom and progression?

Can I get some advice for how to git gud at this? It feels as if I never get a chance to cash out and return to town to upgrade anything. I do like the games idea but loot seems worthless if I can never sell it.

pretty much every RPG follows that formula, just because they add some empty space and cutscenes inbetween to obfuscate the design, doesn't change its core

Stop thinking of it like Diablo 3 where you’re supposed to vacuum up the entire floor and teleport home every 3 minutes.

D1 (and stuff like it) is about **controlled greed**. If you never make it back to town it’s because you’re overextending.

A few basics, anon:

- Don’t full clear every level early. Push until you’ve got a decent pile + you’re low on pots, then bail.
- Use town portal scrolls like they’re oxygen. If you’re dying with 3 in your inventory that’s on you.
- Drop trash. White gear is vendor bait, not heirlooms. Prioritize gold-per-slot.
- Grind safe floors. If you hit a wall, go up a level and farm skeletons like a coward. That’s intended.
- Don’t facetank everything. Doorways are your best friend.

The “can’t cash out” feeling usually means you’re treating it like a modern ARPG treadmill instead of a survival crawl. The tension of *maybe* losing your haul is literally the point.

tl;dr: play like a paranoid rat, not a loot goblin. The town trip feels amazing once you earn it.

No I mean advice for Azure dream specifically. I have a copy of it and play on my PS2.

The town is in cahoots with the dungeon. Monsters never destroy more than the town can afford to lose to look like it needs help, and in exchange a fresh party of adventurers is sent to the slaughter every now and then.
>>
>>737626691
Um. There's a lock on the door retard.
>>
>>737628541
NTA but you need to find a wind crystal in the dungeon so you can warp out. Play safe and warp when you think you're at risk of dying, if you're lucky you'll find an extra crystal along the way, so you can take that with you going in the next time or hoard them in your storage until you have gear you care about keeping and don'twant to risk on not finding any crystals.
While you don't keep your levels, your monsters do, so eventually even if you're really bad or unlucky, you'll be able to slowly make progress as your monsters do most of the work for you.
Biggest tip I can give is to lift lightweight monsters like Kewne over your head and carry him around, he won't get hungry as you carry him, so this massively increases the amount of time you have to rely on him, and when you see an enemy you can throw Kewne at them and he'll fight the monster while you can watch from a safe distance. Lifting lightweight enemies over your head and throwing them in the opposite direction of where you're going can help a lot too to prevent unnecessary combat.
>>
>>737628541
>>737635501
Oh, also when your monster is strong enough to solo duel your rival, you'll want to smoke him every time you encounter him cause he has a rare chance to drop a wind crystal.
>>
>>737635501
That's very funny but I'll try it thank you. How often should I be seeing wind crystals?

I want the opposite. 1 dungeon, infinite towns.
>>
>>737635741
They're decently rare, so its entirely possible to go a couple runs without seeing a single one.
I got overconfident one time and ended up getting like 30 floors in without seeing one, I should've just brought one with me.

Its meant to be a struggle to climb the tower, so don't feel to bad about having a rough start. Hell, for how much your rival likes to showboat, you never see him past the second floor.

what the fuck do you do level 62-69?

So cyberpunk or any other sci fi RPG?
>>
>>737626691
You've got it backwards. The demons came BECAUSE there are humans (food) nearby.
All the humans did wrong was build a church with multiple underground floors that accidentally lead all the way down to a massive cave system that accidentally connects with hell itself.
>>
>>737635968
What games other than like morrowind let you set up a home basically anywhere you want, even in a dungeon?
>>
>>737639765
Pretty sure there isn't a single tall building in cyberpunk where you can go shoot your way through all the floors
