what went wrong?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sa1_Qo5bhY
I hated these side characters so much.
>>737626437LB planet is dead and nobody cares about Dreams
>>737627726Dreams is actually pretty kino. Way better than anything else in that space. Wish Sony had more faith in it and ported it to where its audience is aka PC and mobile. It would need to be relaunched though. The name is just too generic.
>>737628243Yeah I wish it got ported to PC and Tearaway wasn't bad either. Wonder what they're working on now?
best hat
They wasted years on a shitty "engine" that has no goal, purpose or even marketability.>>737628243Dreams is shit because there's no direction, it's directionless.LBP is a well made platformer with ready to go racing, obstacle and puzzle tools. Dreams has a shitty 3rd person character controller that is floaty as fuck and that's it, it doesn't have any abilities, it doesn't do anything but move badly.Play a LBP level and you know how to play it, you know it'll play well. Play a Dreams level and you know the character will be floaty and everything will be a janky mess.I played all early access, I made shit people used in their levels.Everyone that was actually active and making shit, quit because it's a waste of time. Instead of learning Dreams you can just learn to code, it's legitimately easier to code than use Dreams. The worst part is they had a LBP character controller that was multiplayer. They used it in marketing, a side scrolling character with changeable outfits, multiplayer, grabbing and so on.And they never released it.If they had released that we'd have had a more in-depth LBP level creator.
I always wanted to like it but the 30fps cap was too strange and I felt there's a delay on jumping so I never got into it
>>737629063>Instead of learning Dreams you can just learn to code, it's legitimately easier to code than use Dreams.Genuinely this. There really isn't any good reason why not to, other than if you're already familiar with how Dreams works. Honestly why not just make a real game engine at that point. It's why games like LBP or Mario Maker are just more appealing to create stuff in, all of the fundamentals are already there. Your job is to just make use of the tools of the game engine.
>>737629063Yeah LBP had direction first as a solid platformer, character customization, good music, and a good mascot character. The game was extremely accessible and the custom worlds, game mechanics, and tools they gave you was solid to make great levels. My favorite was the costume tutorials, racing, and hotel bomb survival
>>737630193>familiar with how Dreams worksWhich no one is and people leaving took the existing knowledge with them. A lot of people quit because it has no multiplayer, there'd be no news for months and so on.People quitting, especially those that helped on discord was taking knowledge with them, knowledge that would have to be relearnt.>>737630319Shark survivals too, where you've got the floating platforms and sharks diving up to get you in the water to kill. (Which is another thing LBP had, swimming and water). The bomb survivals was so much fun.
I never got around playing through 3, and I mostly blame it on these two versions of the first two games. If you happen to get them and got the PS4 version of LBP3, you'll find out that the $65 worth of DLC in total is not compatible with it. It does work with the PS3 version, and it's probably because of save data on the PS3.
3 is the only good one by virtue of it having actually playable jumping physics, Vita is decent too. Sumo and Tarsier showed the uppity hacks at MM that a videogame needs to be fun to play first yet they doubled down with this floaty flop.
>>737626437LBP had an innocence that felt sincere, it's a rare thing but it really is beautiful when it happens.
These games, the second one in particular, genuinely were lightning in a bottle. I have never experienced anything like them before or since. People used to have their own subcultures and fashion styles and meet friends in hangout lounges, there were mysterious level creators who'd somehow make mind blowing shit like first person shooters and it would be a big deal every time they posted, there was feature length movies with voice actors who were semi famous community celebrities. A guy named LatinPlayer10 would steal peoples levels and everyone hated him for it Where are all those people now? The word nostalgia doesn't do it justice. An entirely different world and time period gone forever
>>737633942it died in 2014 along with gamers
>>737626437LBP3 was shit and a broken mess of a game that was so spaghetti and duck taped together Sumo would rather make a game on UE4 than a proper LBP4What LBP needs is to go back to 2 and port it to modern platforms and PC.Granted RPCS3 exists nowadays and is pretty far along
>>737626437Works on my machine
>>737627629that dog one pisses me off and that dumbass bird.terrible designs.
>>737626437Hilarious image not gonna lie
>>737626437PSN was free on PS3PSN wasn't free on PS4LBP worked because 100% of playerbase with online connection could make levels, upload levels and play those levels with friendsLock that behind a paywall (even a very cheap one, like PS+ subscription) and guess what happensIt didn't help that MM has basically dropped the IP and Sony was too busy caring about AAA interactive movieshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3sk35a8U6A
