Not that they don't want to make money, it's more like they do experiments, expecting to fill out at least some niche. I bought picrel and it's easily the single worst controller ever made, it sucks equally if you want to play kmb games, and it sucks equally if you want to use it for arcade or console games. The person that came up with a controller without a fucking DPAD should be executed and his family should have to pay reparations until they die.

It's really dependent on the game and how much the person using the controller is willing to learn. In general though controller on PC is better than controller on console because of all the customization you can do either through steam itself or other programs like DS4windows.

If they offer a controller that's drift-free for more than four years, that's a good price. I have a DS5 that I bought in 2021, and it already had slight drift after two years. I spent €30 to fix it, and now the circle button is malfunctioning. I also have an Xbox controller that hasn't failed me, but I don't really like some of them for gaming because of the D-pad. I don't want to buy from Nintendo; they don't offer much with their Pro Controllers, from what I've been able to test with borrowed controllers, and 8-Bit is mid-tier for me.

It's not even a proper algo but just the tags system. Five tags on every game, if 3/5 overlap with a game you played a lot the system recommends it. When you have a couple thousand games in the database and maybe 15 or 20 tags that can work but not for a platform the size of Steam.

pure video game store employee autimo cancer. The only options for a decent TMR controller right now are Gamesir and 8bitdo and I refuse to buy the snes looking controller marketed to the speedrunning community from 8bitdo but I also hate the xbox three-sixty style analog sticks from gamesir. Scuff is dated and I also hate how low the ps5 style analog sticks are. I had a steam deck but sold it for legion go 2 and I hate to say I miss the steam deck’s controller. I liked using the trackpads to scroll fourchannel. The analog sticks were perfect.
>>
>>737636938
i have both (just for pc, dont even own a console) and i like the ds5 more but the battery is useless so i play with it plugged in 100% of the time. xbox is better if you want wireless cause the AA batteries actually last a bit. both controllers get drift over time. xbox buttons are loud as shit compared to ps5 for some reason, super clacky and annoying

NTA but one thing I can point to is the Switch 2 already struggling to beat the gameless old PS5 on a month-to-month basis. Though that's debatably less on the tariffs and more on the largely unexciting lineup of games/wild overpricing on small-scale games (the latter is something they've clearly taken note of with upcoming smaller-scale games now being below MSRP, but they adamantly refuse to address the former with a Direct for some godforsaken reason).
>>

$200 is expensive as hell for a controller.
But completely unironically. If the controllers were actually quality, and basically had a lifetime warranty instead of the planned obsolesence shit they're actually selling. Then I could see myself buying one.

I mean ignoring my N64 sticks, ALL my old controllers from 7th gen or prior still work real damn well.

AA is superior and more user-friendly than proprietary battery formats, and you can change them in seconds instead of having to plug a cable.
IKEA LADDA are Eneloop rechargeables for half the price and last many years.

If it's made in a Chinese OEM then it's expensive due to branding and local marketing.
If it's "made" (assembled) in the US of Ayy it's expensive because the overpaid workforce is low skill prompting more troubleshooting, the supply chain is not vertically integrated meaning just importing all the material adds cost and finally because of corruption.

First case is why iShit costs an arm and a leg but gets mogged by Oppo and Xiaomi across the board now. Despite it being from Shenzhen too.
Second case is why Tesla cars made in Texas are both poorly built, have worse batteries and are also more expensive than Tesla cars made in Shanghai.

haptic feedback definitely adds something and if you dont think so then you've never experienced it. the vibration can emulate stuff like raindrops when it rains on screen, to where you really feel like you're holding an umbrella or something and little raindrops are pitter pattering across the surface. the adaptive triggers make every gun feel unique. it's actually very good and immersive.
>battery dies unless you go out of your way to disable all of it
disregarding that it is very simple and takes no effort at all, going "out of your way" is something no pc user should ever complain about. tailoring settings for your personal enjoyment is a major selling point of pcs and pc games.

I did. It was mostly annoying and I immediately turned it off in every game I played.
>the vibration can emulate stuff like raindrops when it rains on screen, to where you really feel like you're holding an umbrella or something and little raindrops are pitter pattering across the surface.
I mean, the Nintendo Switch did that, so it isn't really intense or unique technology either, and that wasn't even raised as the issue.
>the adaptive triggers make every gun feel unique.
Again, it's just annoying. I don't play a game to get some retard's experience handling guns or whatever, I play a game to play a game. I want consistency, not some dumb shit where I need to be more forceful with a particular weapon or have my finger vibrate for a few seconds because I'm using an automatic.

I'd love to see just how many people actually have drift stick issues with Xbox controllers and how many of them are either astroturfing the HE/TMR meme or just regurgitating shit because "if the PS5 controller is known to drift and Xbox uses the same sticks then it must be as bad".

Reminder that the stick drift issue on the JoyCons was due to the base of the sticks loosening and causing worse contact where putting a piece of cardboard to push it back up fixed all the issues. Who's to say a similar fault is to blame for the DS5 drifting more often and Xbox doesn't have that issue because Microslop mounts their shit better?

>post something and declare victory as loudly and obnoxiously as possible
I own a XSX controller to use with my PC and I would still get a Steam Controller 2, assuming it's stick ergonomics are as good as on the Steam Deck. XSX's staggering doesn't always work, PS5 is too far down as it keeps adhereing to it's lineage of their old PSX controller, and Deck found the best of both worlds.

What I'd truly be getting with a Steam Controller is not the fancy schmancy TMR sticks everyone salivates over, but all the extra inputs like the haptic touchpads, rear buttons and the gyro, which would allow me to have better controls in certain games.

What's really pathetic ITT is acting like Xbox is somehow "BTFO's PC cucks". It was designed back in 2013 with R&D price of $100mil. By Microsoft. They've kept the design to this day because it's that good. They're the ones that did the heavy lifting software side to turn PC's into a gaming platform with DirectX. They're the ones that proved PC hardware for consoles is the way to go with the OG Xbox. The OG Xbox controller used USB with a proprietary plug, but X360 had standard USB. And on the release of X360, Microsoft released XInput, which defined the way PC controllers work. Xbox controllers are plug & play on PC's, be it Windows or Linux.

Imagine being this detached from reality you're acting like Xbox "BTFO'd PC gamers" when Xbox's origins were that of PC gaming, with Microsoft actively staying true to those roots.

They drift because the potentiometer becomes too shaved by the use, so it doesn't do proper contact, the way to achieve this is by using it too much.
These people who have stick drift use their controller for like 12 hours a day every day for months.

that style is not ergonomic. the xbox/nintendo style is deliberately designed to be ergonomic. for most people, your right thumb is mostly used for the face buttons, and your left thumb is mostly used for the left thumbstick.
at a rest position, your thumb is best positioned where the face buttons are, this is fine on playstation if you will be exclusively using the d-pad, but for 99% of people, that is not the case, your left thumb will instead be constantly stretching unaturally to reach the left thumbstick.

Cheapening out on plastic quality, or pushing worse, degraded recycled plastics to get the ESG money became more important than delivering a good product. Plus it helped with planned obsolescence which had been their MO as well.

yes, im saying they look like they've never been used, almost like its just an object you have, instead of being something you use often.

Greedy Gabey strikes again
Enjoy your $100 controller for your full priced game rentals on your $3000 pc that has more problems than a console 1/6 the price, pc cucks lmao
>>
>>737662148
If you wash your hands after masturbating or eating, so before touching your controller, it won’t look like shit after two weeks.
>>
>>737662297
>that has more problems than a console 1/6 the price
And can play more games, as well as do more than your console. Can your console gen anime tiddy on demand? No? Oh well, keep seething since that's all (You) can do.

>>737653652
I remember they were also higher quality. My 25 year old GameCube pad still works, absolutely none of my ps4 or 360 pads still work.

it makese sense when you consider this is all a scheme to allow them to get their steambux converted to real money.
they will stop at nothing to defend and hype the money laundering device no matter how ridiculously overpriced and underperforming and completely useless it is.
>>

the fuck are you talking about?
no really, i could have been converting my steambux into real money?
i have so many hats i need to liquidate if thats the case.

now you can feed your entire village.

If the steam controller driftless sticks like the 8Bitdo controllers then its worth it. Nintendo.Snoy.XB does not have that and those sticks breaks within 1 year of heavy playing

It's more so that they skimp out on everything but the sticks and shell.
>third party wired XB360 controller I bought a decade ago still works completely fine, no drift or anything

Australian.
i just remember how much of a fuss people made about incentivising criminals to steal counterstrike knives in gambling sites when the vr, and first steam controller came out.
and there was none.
i even bought a steam controller back when my old dualshock died, and it was so shit (defaulting my computer to big picture mode whenever it randomly powered on was grim).
i have no fear for the 3rd round of "but muh turdies" compared to the amount of american /pol/ and culture war bullshit i ignore in the catalogue every day.
stop being a reactionary cunt and call the steamcontroller shit becasue its shit, not because a brown person may get $80 reselling it from steam trading cards.

It's $20-$30 more expensive than an 8bitdo Pro 3 that I bought and it'll probably be worth the extra
>>
>>737666070
>8bitdo
That shit is built like ass compared to Xbox controllers. I'm sure Valve's will be built just as well as the Xbox one at a minimum.

8BitDo are a bunch of scamming chinks, and they've gotten their grift down to smoothing their sticks in software so that they look "superior" in stick circularity tests.
>>
>>737638875
8bitdo has TMR sticks and hall effect triggers
>>
>>737666225
>built like ass
and what makes you think steam machine controller wont be built like ass? when has valve ever made sturdy hardware???
>>
>>737667585
>when has valve ever made sturdy hardware???
Well I haven't seen any complaints about the Deck's build quality. People love to talk shit about the XSX controller yet I know for a fact it's better built than the endlessly shilled 8BitDo so I doubt Valve can do any worse than Microsoft.
>>
>>737657989
You should find a cheaper pub
>>
>>737664480
If they just used good sticks they'd be perfect. There's no way it adds that much to the price.
>>
>>737630934
i legit don't see the issue

do i think $100 is too much for a controller? absolutely
will i get one? hell no
is the price justified? yes it is? it offers more than all the other controllers offer, and it's an OPTIONAL buy.
meanwhile all the other controllers just provide the barebones features(bar the PS5 controller cause of all the haptic feedback stuff, which is nice), but are MANDATORY for each otheir systems.
if i wanna use an XBOX/PS3/4/5/switch controller on PC, i can, i can even decide to use the 15 dollars aftermarket chinkshit if i want to, on any of the other systems, i cant, you're STUCK with HAVING to spend whatever the controller costs.

THAT is what imho justify the price.
still high, still i won't get it, but it's not a BAD price per se.
>>
>>737631146
>in terms of extra features, this is a very basic controller
>the thumbsticks can't be customized
>you can't swap the faceplate
>the triggers don't have a hair trigger mode
>and none of the buttons are clicky microswitches
>but, controllers with those features tend to cost over 200 dollars
holy mother of disconnect, the Gamesir G7 SE has ALL of that, and it costs 60 dollars
>>
File: file.png (145 KB, 608x439)

>>737668231
correction, it cost 50 dollars, 40 on sale
>>
>>737668479
Has "hall effect" sticks opposed to TMR.
Anybody knows what the difference is?
>>
>>737666225
Be honest anon you'd have been one of those people posting 8bitdo with the word chink shoved into it if that hadn't been made a spam filter
>>
>>737668824
Hall effect is a less precise version of the same technology, still more than fine for a magnetic stick
TMR is a more accurate and less power consumptive version usually compared to ALPS sticks in feel that still hasn't gotten super wide adoption because it's newer tech
>>
>>737668878
What's the best budget TMR controller?
>>
>>737668986
Gulikit ES Pro (specifically Pro) or Gamesir Cyclone 2, would pick Gamesir of the two for a charging dock
>>
>>737668231
>two rear paddles
>Xbox staggered sticks
>no gyro
>no touchpads
>no rear touch sensing
It's not a Steam Controller competitor. It's a XSX controller competitor.
>>
>>737630934
Imagine paying a subscription fee for the privilege of playing online games
>>
>>737669116
you pay the cuck tax for RAM. sit down unc
>>
>>737668824
TMR is vastly superior, but it's just a technical superiority(read, cheaper, more durable, less prone to failure, etc), in practice they both get rid of stick drift and a normal player won't be affected by the technical differences until several years of using the controlller, to the point other components might fail before the hallsticks do

>>737669082
nowhere i said it's a steam controller competitor
all i said is that saying "a controller with customizable thumbsticks, swappable faceplate, hair trigger triggers, and clicky microswitches costs 200 dollars", which is what said in that review, is false, cause the G7 SE has all of that and costs 40-50 dollars.
nowhere i implied this makes the G7 SE a steam controller competitor, just that the $200 price of controllers that do cost that much does not come from those feature, so listing those features as if them missing is justified by the contoller not costing $200, implying it would if it had them, is disingenous and misrepresents what makes other controllers cost that much.
>>
>>737669237

I was thinking: Isn't Xbox also selling controllers for like $150? Their pro series or whatever?
>>
>>737669073
>Gulikit ES Pro (specifically Pro)
It's 30 bucks and looks cheap as shit on the promo images.
Is it really good?
>>
>>737669845
No clue but it's the cheapest option
Gulikit does seem hit-and-miss as a company, if it's the actual TMR sticks you're after that's low enough it's worth a shot
If you have soldering experience you could also just buy TMR sticks for a controller you already own and put those in
>>
I miss the ol kanye

Oh damn, does that actually work?
I still have MULTIPLE old controllers.

I like the 360 controller the most but those sticks are just fucking done.
>>

>>
>>737630934
Hi, I'm Eric. What's my win/loss ratio and sexual status?
>>
>>737670101
Yeah there's nothing stopping you from desoldering the old sticks and putting new ones in. Xbone would definitely be compatible, not sure about 360 but I'm sure a HE stick exists that's compatible with those if TMR is too new and they aren't back-compatible with Xbone or Series sticks
>>
>>737631292
I use a backlit one for testing systems, it works pretty well and I haven't had to charge it in almost a year.
