I wouldn't call either my favorite niche series, but Resident Evil and Splinter Cell in the seventh gen barely involved hiding behind cover, and there was usually a much better option so you could avoid it even when it was there. Blacklist, for example, played like MGS3 where you'd try to get through a room without getting seen using gadgets and just walking out of sight.
