5 went too hard on the American muscle man trope that I guess was supposed to win over more Gaymers who thought Leon was too pretty. The coop was great and remains a top tier couch coop game to this day.6 got completely lost in the sauce and was barely a Resident Evil game. It's why they had to soft reboot the franchise with 7.

Objectively speaking, 5 remains the RE king.6 has amazing gameplay but has to many flaws. I wish nu-capcom would give the 6 mechanics another chance. 4make and 9 gameplay is inferior to 6.

Had plenty of fun with Re5 but Re6 was some unholy abomination of all modern vidya mechanics at the time. It felt like I was playing some bootleg copy instead of an actual resident evil game.

It's a schizophrenic mess, and not in the charming Evil Within sort of way. 5 is fundametally a wreck, though. It's like they made a reskinned "highlight reel" out of 4 and made it to where you can play it with a friend. Virtually no originality or ambition, just a shittier version of their previous hit. 6 is worth saving, but 5 can be left to rot.

RE9 going full retard during Racoon City and using all types of those weapon and environmental melee finishers with an over the top tone really proves that RE6 style action arcade horror can (and still will) work for this series, it just has to be balanced and built up to rather than dumping its load within 5 minutes and never letting upI can almost guarantee that RE10 action segments will lean further into arcade pacing and over-the-top elements like quickdraw and dodging while still having those break moments to control the weak character/girl
Leons Wrenwood intro hallway section in RE9 is literally just a slower, stripped down, less hectic version of RE6
