Looking back, what did you think of the Wii U era?
The only part of Wii U era Nintendo that I miss is the user interface.>your mii in the middle of a plaza waving hi>your friends' miis walking around>ambient music while miiverse posts and artwork cycle on tv>eshop, settings, mii maker, etc. all had their own music>splash screen when loading up games>happy birthday jingleSwitch interface feels lifeless.
>>737645650Worse era. Dogshit console. 3ds was ok but turned to shit later on. Switch saved Nintendo.
I usually just think of it as the Wii U + 3DS era.Shitty sequels, shovelware, and lack of sales to the point of bankruptcy aside, I miss it. But I don't know if I am just missing 2011-2016 in general.
>>737645650It had games so good they didn't bother making any new ones for the Switch
I'm not going to defend the Wii U, but as an owner (laugh now) it didn't feel THAT bad overallWWHD to start with, usually would be pretty weak but as a massive WW fan I fucking loved itThen we got Mario Kart 8, Smash 4, Tropical Freeze, and Splatoon? Those 4 games alone justified the purchase for me. Then throw in a smattering of other nintendo releases/partner/third parties like 3D World, Mario Maker, Bayonetta 1+2, W101. It was also how I played Sonic All Stars Racing, and I genuinely enjoyed Sonic Lost World (after I properly learned how to wrassle with the weird spindash and parkour shit). Yoshi's Woolly World was good. That Kirby game was pure detritus while simultaneously being one of the prettiest games ever made.If you bought one because you were a Nintendo fan, it wasn't that bad by the end. If you were only a casual nintendo fan who wanted the big first parties, modern gen experience, etc. then it probably sucked shit. Not to mention that horrible OS and needing to keep that fat fucking fisher price tablet around. Also the Wii U Pro controller was great. Loved the dpad on that thing.
>>737646145Cope, it fucking sucked.
Wii U was the last console to use PowerPC and it shows. It got almost non existent support as everyone moved to ARM & x86.
It provided all the best Switch games.
>>737645650Imagine having to switch from looking at a tablet and the tv.
How much are wiiu these days?
>>737648259Dirt cheap, you can find the console and tablet for like $50-60. Resellers have tried to fuck up the market like they did with the Gamecube but the Wii U is so shit that it literally doesn't happen.
>Bruh this console's gimmicks suck!>Bruh look at Iwata, Shiggy and Reggie make memes shiiling it!>Dude this shit had the worst starfox title of all timeAnd everytime they say these things I can't help but ask which console they're referring to.
Last 'console' worth a damn. Last console to do anything original or innovative. The switch was a kind of watered down half assed version of this that didnt actually do anything unique. Consoles after the WiiU are basically copy paste jobs that all function the same so nothing has been interesting or gamechanging
>>737646225It's a shame because one of the things I believe brought some diversity between consoles and PC used to be the difference in architecture. Now Arm is just "for handheld computers" and x86 is just "for tower-desktop machines" and it really homogenizes the industry.Even if it should be similar because you're ultimately creating the same content and then coding it to each architecture, it brough specialized solutions to a broader range of architecture, which sometimes leads to changes in either graphics or map design, because they had to optimize in a special way, and decided to restructure parts of the game's content for it.
>>737648259>>737648335It's so fucking worth it. You can easily download any Digital Wii U game from Nintendo's own servers still. And you can install Gamecube games and play with the Gamepad, and it's native, not emulation because of the BC hardware, so it's really smooth performance-wise. And if you're gonna play stuff like WWHD or TPHD anyway, it's better with the gamepad and the 2nd screen. Great way to play some Nintendo DS games as well, if the bottom screen is menus and top screen is 3D graphics.
>>737645650I miss the interface and the miiverse. I really miss the doodling and drawings. Nintendo had their head up their asses about calling it the Wii U and being absolutely draconian about streaming their games at the time. Im surprised they survived.
>>737645650That must have been around the time I went pure 3DS. Maybe if they had advanced the wiimote/nunchuck combo, I would've looked closer (had a lot of fun with CoD online w/ Wii).
