I yearned for another game like that, rented a shitty game based on a TV show of the same concept (Battlebots?), but it paled in comparison.

You had a budget, and had to carefully spend it either on unique weapons, speed, weight, spikes, or whatever. It was rife with cheaters and had constant connection problems, but it was amazing in concept.

Robot Rage, it was fucking badass.

There were paid weapons that looked really cool but I literally never saw anyone use them in game ever. Also there was some annoying rank system that was basically forced you to smurf because you never got matches at anything over the lowest rank even when the game was active.

Not sure if it was miniclip, but there was this flash game I vaguely remember from the late 90s or early 00s that was essentially a brick breaking game but with Pikachu in a see-through ball. I tried finding it but it completely disappeared from the internet as far as I could tell.

there was a game, i think it was called "fu fighter" or something, i think the dev was "phillip fu", you were a little spaceship, it was kind of like a shmup, but in a single arena more like centipede. i remember random cheerios/donuts flying around to shoot, and white/grey balls with red spikes slowly homing in on you. i cant seem to find any information on it. i think the site i played it on was freearcade.com, and it would be pre-2006, maybe even as far back as 2001.

5 and unders didnt get computer time in the 2000s. miniclip came out when millennials had computer lab and studyhall. the peak of its popularity was with millennials. millennials weaned off of flash games in their college years as they had more important things to do, as well as real opportunities for multiplayer console games. additionally, console and pc games had reached a point of quality and availability that flash games really began to lose their luster. the 2010s saw a big shift into mobile gaming too, and the general quality of things being put on to miniclip (or any flash game site) were seriously diminishing. sure, some surprising outliers popped up here and there, but it was on the decline. zoomers were the ones accessing it during this period. yes, they played the old greats too, but they were the ones playing the new slop.

To be fair the freeware version hosted on these flash game sites didn't have the Satan boss fight at the end so it's understandable why Kevin didn't believe you

Any of you niggas remember something like a bullet hell/shmup that was kind of isometric in the POV/camera and was 3D and was really simple/minimalistic in the design/graphics?
I remembered it after playing Frantic again the other day.

Only Isometric shoot em up I am aware of is Zaxxon, I remember playing it on pc, but don't quite remember how. maybe there was a port on shockwave?

Speaking of which. I mostly remember shockwave. and bonus.com.

I think my favorite obscure flash game was MouseMountain. A kind of turn based strategy game.

Hmmm IDK if I'd call it isometric but it was kind of close. Forgot to mention it was likely a Shockwave game IIRC that released around the 2010 (give or take a few years)
It used 3D models but there wasn't really any textures IIRC, was mostly just gray and flat but with some shadows, the player basically just looked like a 3D mouse pointer/arrow head

Damn shame the dev cucked himself out of Steam because he didn't realize he can't sell mtx for a Steam game over his own site, otherwise the community would be bigger and we'd have more convenient mod support via Workshop.
Now he's releasing a NFM remake on some literal who browser game site.

as you said, he shot himself in the foot and is coming back a decade too late at this point.

Amazing how this is a PERFECT time capsule of early 2000s nerd fandom. Like it doesn't get more earnest than this.
Someone trying to make a Smash fangame today would get themselves twisted in knots over who 'deserves' to be in or whatever. Meanwhile this dude was like
>Ichigo and Naruto? Yep they're in!
>>
>>737684378
Yeah for me the 00s's biggest keypoint was the limitless potential that was in front of us.
Then 9/11 and a whole bunch of bullshit happened.
>>
Boxhead and Heli Attack 2 and 3 were the big ones from miniclip for me. Otherwise there was Stick RPG, Thing-thing, that one where you draw tracks for a bobsled on a 2D background, and a zombie one I forgot the name of. It was the third in a series and it changed up the previous formula by having you trapped in a city and you needed to progress via stronger weapons to break barrades to escape.

>every student had an account and file storage. You can work on your essay anywhere in the building without needing a disc! Amazing right?

>one kid explains ROMs to someone
>suddenly everyone has every game and every system uploaded to the 2000's internet
>IT has to manually go through every kid's account and pull out all their roms and emulators
>no one gets in trouble despite the mass piracy we all committed

I wound up re-downloading shit anyway. I guess we just collectively gobbled up the storage because no one planned on it being used like that

towards the end of my time in high school the IT put a really zealous firewall on the internet making it almost unusable
>locked down Windows XP with forced internet explorer 6, eventually 7
>most proxy sites blocked
>figured out that Microsot Outlook wasn't affected by their firewall until they figured that out and blocked that as well
>firewall was internal and would block pages pretty aggressively, sometimes refreshing would work
>school ditched a personal laptop policy (this was a very tech-progressive school that started this scheme in like 2002 where every student was assigned a laptop as long as your parents paid for it on a payment plan) just as I joined for communal laptop banks that of course the shitter kids would just remove the keycaps from
>banned one time for using a proxy because the IT staff had nothing better to do but snoop on us with screencap software

My school was large and had a Stasi tier IT department who must have done Bi-weekly school wide history checks and pretty much banned any website that let you have a modicum of fun. It was as if they had collected every bitter administrator from the country and put them in a room together and told them to have fun ruining whatever fun kids might have using the internet.

Remember a wormslike game called 'tanks' that we used to play in high school, and it was allowed because it was on a website called coolmathgames.com. The librarian came up to us seething one day, but we showed her the URL to which she groaned, rolled her eyes and fucked off. Bubble Struggle 2 was another game, albeit an extralegal one, that was popular in those days.

Come to think of it, it was ELMA that got me into modding games. The level creation process just tickled me autism right.
