Jason Statham can only play one character. But at least he's self-conscious about it and takes it on the chin.
Funny how no one would've heard about him if Guy Ritchie didn't spot him selling fake watches on the street.

Its fine when an actor has a typecast, See Liam Neeson and Clint Eastwood, the problem is when they never find their type and just get crammed into roles they dont belong.
>>
>>737657124
We binge watched a bunch of his movies at one point and they do kinda blend together like that as if he's always the same character, but it works.

The movies hit that rare mix of slop and kino, it's totally predictable and low quality garbage but I eat it up every time. There's a new one coming out this year and I just saw the preview thumbnail, "Oh, Jason Statham holding a gun and looking intensely off-screen is in this movie? Sign me the FUCK up."

I'd say his first two flicks with Lock, Stock and Snatch are the ones where he wasn't typecast as the hard guy. Then you have one offs like Ghosts of Mars where he plays as the resident gooner in a feminist run world with Sting is the main badguy. Not to mention Ice Cube running like a cheerleader down a flight of stairs.

>>737657269
Clint was very good outside of type imo.

True, Guy Ritchie knew how not to put him at roles of badass Mary Sue's. Bacon relied on his friends to try and get out of the shit they fell into and Turkish would've been proper fucked if not for the pikey that threw him into Brick Top's pocket to begin with, getting out of it all by sheer luck. Other directors didn't have the same sense for Statham.

>>737659371
Now listen here my pedigree chum, did you know that one of the lines Cockney Playa says while drunk directly references Brick Top?
>We definitely need to buy some pigs, to help deal with bodies.
No? Well go play Saints Row 2 right fucking now and see for yaself before I cut your fucking jacobs off. Now, fuck off!

Yeah until he starts getting flashbacks from all of the cunts quoting his only memorable body of work. Constantly rolling from one heap of crap to another certainly doesn't help with the trajectory if you are trying to do something else for a change.

SR4 wasn't great but having a bong doing the presidential speech was quite comical.

I'd still love to know if Soap/Pinky was a cleaner or not in a previous life. Compared to the rest of the lads he's definitely more than what they were used to.

This is just a shitty RLM thread, but if you want a real answer, it's Max Payne 3 on New York Minute mode. You have 1 minute to beat and level and you get time by killing. You restart the whole thing if you die

Liam Neeson got a career revival by being typecast as the reluctant secret agent with Unknown and Taken, I don't even remember what he was typecast as before that, other than being a Jedi Knight. And he is currently trying to become the new Leslie Nilsen by doing the Naked Gun revival, even joking that people kept confusing their names so he mas as well pay tribute. Shame they got shit writers on the new Naked Gun so it was mostly a modern "comedy".

Speaking of, Leslie Nilsen was mostly known for serious roles (and even the first Sci-Fi blockbuster), which is why he was cast in Airplane: they put a serious drama actor to act seriously in an utter bizarre movie. Which then got him a career revival as a comedy actor with Police Squad, then Naked Gun, and then many other comedies (which for some reason usually featured Weird Al Yankovich).

Rock at least attempts to be funny even when shilling. I mean come on, using a bald guy to market a shampoo, how is that not purposefully a joke.

random people becoming actors is better than soullles nepo babies brought into acting
>>
>>737672337
True, but what I was trying to convey is that Jason got a gig by pure chance. He isn't an actor and can only play himself, which is something he openly stated. And it works, he has a good personality and it works. For the most part he's being himself and he made it big on the big screen.

He's not an actor, yet he made it as one. Because sometimes all it takes is for one bloke doing a fake watch sale pitch at the right time, at the right place, for someone to make it in that industry. No method acting or other crap like that. Sometimes natural charisma does more than acting skill.
>>
>>737672503

Statham isn't Gary Oldman but I don't think it's fair to see him play one character because he plays at least three

>Guy Ritchie Statham
kind of a dry sarcastic prick, not actually that tough or brave

>Crank Statham
an insane sadistic retarded perverted monster whose only redeeming quality is that everyone he interacts with is a worse person than him

>everything else (the Beekeeper, the Mechanic, etc.)
super antihero robot man, possibly the exact same person ever since The Transporter

Also there's one Statham movie that's entirely unstathamlike, I can't say that he nails it to Oscar caliber but the novelty is kind of worth the watch just for that. He plays a mentally ill homeless veteran, and sells that he's genuinely broken in a way that's not action hero-y at all. It's an almost Refn type thing where people going in expecting a genre flick will leave angry, like that Drive poster where Ryan Gosling is jumping out of an explosion.
