solid 7/10needs work with the collision when you hit wallssome later stages were copy pasted 3 times over to pad the level
>>737658716People who act like this game is abyssal dogshit always seem to have no idea how to play it properly. Sure it's janky but if you aren't pre buffering your character swaps and using sonic to fight everything is your opinion really worth listening to?
>>737659073* So I agree with op. A 7/10 experience with great ideas that suffers from a lot of rushed development (repetitive content and janky physics).Still fully believe this game is getting a remake. It's safer and easier to do than the adventure games. It'd be hilarious if it got revisionism like sonic colours.
You have to be mentally stunted to enjoy any Sonic game
>>737659073The problem isn't even the gameplay it's the reused stages and all the teams basically playing the same
>>737659295Same applies to mario then
>>737659331-more unique abilities for teams-shuffled level order-unique level layouts for each teamPLS Sega.
>>737659295>to not enjoy any Sonic gameFTFY
>>737659073>speed being best at fighting>not flightThunder Shoot rapes enemies at level 3 in half the time. Power is still best for big enemies. Speed is the best at combat at lower levels but the other two outclass Speed at higher levels.
>>737658716to add:the pinball levels are very very badthe special stages are also very badits not worth playing the other teams or getting the emeralds unless you are a kid with nothing better to doon the other hand the graphics are great, the ost is great and the gameplay is pretty engaging
>>737658716When is this game being put on NSO?
>>737660323Power is better against most things that aren't flying, but you are left somewhat vulnerable, whereas your flying character can stay safely out of reach of most things. The outlier is Knuckles, who's combo finisher has a much taller hitbox capable of hitting a lot if flyibg guys, but has less horizontal reach.Speed is dogshit until you hit level 3, so you don't need to do the stupid whirlwind, anymore.>>737659331The problem is all the glitched that render the game nigh unplayable, unless you very specifically try to avoid them, a tall order for trying to S rank some stages, or even just playing some stages normally.
>>737658716Play it on PC.
>>737659295Nah, it's about industry variety. What makes Sonic special is that there are many platformers, and many types of platformers, but only Sonic has been insistent on keeping it a speedy platformer, and only a few copycats like Freedom Planet. It's not quite an entire genre on its own, but nothing really replaces the feeling of having the character action of a platformer, but also being unnaturally fast.
>>737661210the game isnt glitchy in the gamecube version. the problem is that momentum gets carried when you use cannons or boosters. so when sonic lands with speed on a platform after using a cannon or booster he will fly off the platform immediately, unlike the adventure games where you stop in place.also when you hit a wall with speed you fly off left or right, unlike the adventure games where you only move a bit
>>737661210Speed is still decent at low levels for dealing with weak enemies, is what I was getting at. Of course enemies with shields and such would not be "weak" enemies and naturally you would switch for that. Though I believe the rocket accel removes shields on its own, so level 3 isn't strictly necessary.
SHIT ROCK EUGH!ANNIHILATECHARFIRE
>>737660323Sorry lost myself in the negative. Using sonic homing attack spam bad. Tails stun into knuckles air slam good. Opposite of what I said my bad.
I like how Chaotix was a demo for the Shadow the Hedgehog alt missions, and they didn't really improve on it as much as they should have. Genuinley, when your mission is "kill all X type enemies" and you have a lone beetle standing over a cliff off to the side and I'm required to checkpoint teleport to hunt it down for the last 1/46 enemies on map, you should have looked at that and said "there has to be a better way"
>>737661723It's crazy how simply easing off the stick as you land makes a dramatic improvement to how it feels to play. As for how ramming walls causes your character to slide off them at top speed that really just need to go. I get that it makes running through areas with hairpins and corners easier but it does more harm than good.
>>737658716It's solid, been saying for years a Sonic Heroes 2 would be perfect to get the franchise out of this funk it's stuck in.
>>737662262>easing off the stickno one does that. everyone keeps the stick up because thats how all sonic games are played (in 2d you stick right, in 3d you stick up)even though once you understand that in every scripted sequence in heroes (even rails) you should let off the stick, the game becomes much more reliable
>>737662502Any game that goes back to a more Adventure style gameplay would.
>>737662502If they don't fuck up what they just built up with Frontiers and Shadow (the new baseline mechanics) they're already out of the funk. The games are selling well and they're pretty alright. Now we just need some originality, which they experimented with in Frontiers DLC and some of the Shadow stage remixes, but we have yet to see them create original level concepts en masse like in the old days, and then couple it with the new more tightly scripted mechanics. And I like how it plays now. It's still a LITTLE janky, but it's a lot more reliable than it was in Heroes. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are still the best, but even they have their moments of jank. Something I actually liked about 06 is how Homing Attack can target from below. In all the Adventure-engine games the rule is that Sonic has to be in a higher altitude than the enemy NPC in order to lock a homing attack, but in 06 there's no target reticule but the homing attack is actually pretty reliable, as it targets springs, rails, item boxes and enemies from anywhere in front of Sonic no matter if it's below or above. That actually makes the platforming a bit better sometimes, because you can home up onto rails, and save yourself when you accidentally miss a jump. And Shadow Gens felt a bit similar. There's so many times where I'm flying towards the ass end of nowhere just because I wanted to make a jump, but then a bit of R2 and double jumping and a homing attack gets me back up to speed, even over long distances. And I also think Ian Flynn needs a shit at a Sonic game that has the story centered on the level-to-level storytelling, and isn't deliberately a nostalgiawank. Both Frontiers and Shadow are hub-driven narratives, where it's just Sonic standing around and talking. I'm sure if we had a game that's more built like a plot that moves forward, that Ian's writing would shine a bit more.
>>737662178I wouldn't even say Shadow was an improvement. Chaotix actually has more variety in objectives than Shadow which is insane. They also have more varied gameplay by nature of having the three unit teams, while Shadow's moveset is barely better than a single team member and guns/sticks don't really make up the difference.
>>73765871610/10 concept, though
>>737659331It's mostly this, but I don't even think the stages are good. The gameplay hinges on having multiple characters in the team to do different things, but instead of moving as a cohesive unit and having buttons assigned to different actions, they make you awkwardly stop and switch to some specific character to do one thing then go back to the speed character so it's fun to play again. And combat is somehow easier with flying than with power. The game's a hot fucking mess and I'm always tired of people who grew up playing it as a little kid talking about how good it is when it wasn't even good when it came out.
>>737661210>The problem is all the glitched that render the game nigh unplayableYour fault for playing the PS2 version
