Post your worst gaming takes.
politics do not belong in video games unless its specifically the point.
I don't mind gays/blacks/trannies in video games as long as they are well written. Bernie from GTA4 for example. The problem is writers put them in and then make their whole character about being gay or a strong black woman etc.
Live service games are fun and I like daily challenges and seasonal content
I mute game music 99% of the time. Usually I'll listen to the in-game music once just to see what it is, and unless it's ridiculously good or mood-setting, I turn it off after a short while to play something else. Half the time I just mute games completely unless audio is important to gameplay, like footsteps or timing indicators.
>>737665303I think Symphony of the Night unironically needs a remake that allows you to tie spells to regular button inputs like L2 or up + r1 and gives you a regular directional dash instead of just a back dash cause I’m not a troon obsessed with learning fighting game button combos for “movement tech” and the game would be phenomenal with actually intuitive controls
>>737665616So you only play slop games to pass time?
>>737665741No, I just prefer to play my own music.
>>737665384How would you avoid adding politics to a game incidentally? Considering, ya know, everything is politics? I know people say it's a meme, but that is what it is. Lets say a gay guy makes a game, and he makes the main character gay. The main character gay has nothing to do with the story, There's no tragic gay backstory reveal or anything, he's just gay. That is, in a way, still political. Having a gay hero, it carries implications. And it follows that if a protagonist is straight, white, male those are all also political, in a way.If you have an open world game, and there are cops, that's political. How rich or poor are the people in your game? That's political. You start with a poor farmboy yearning for adventure, that's political. Unless you make some abstract block puzzle game, I don't think you can avoid putting politics in media. Like you said, you can deliberately put politics in with the goal to have the point be those politics and talk about them, but I don't think there's a way to avoid politics alltogether.
>>737665810That's what you do when you play slop games to pass time.
>>737666012Maybe it's what you do, I just don't like most video game music.
>>737665435>The problem is writers put them in and then make their whole character about being gay or a strong black woman etc.Fair. Ironically that is also essentially the Wokes argument against characters like Eve from stellar blade. The right always tries to frame it like "They just hate sexy female characters" but the left loves sexy women. They're all annoyingly horny for sexy women characters. But they do complain when there's a female characters that's JUST sexy for the sake of it, with no real other character traits, or even a reason to dress up like that. It actively clashes with the story sometimes, when you're out there in the ruins, in on of the unlocked instagram bikini outfits, and then tell a little girl "sorry your sister is dead".
>>737665864It's only politics if it rejects tradition.
>>737665616I know a guy who does this and he is a genuine sociopath.
>>737666082Because you play slop.
>>737666107But that take itself, is politics. By completely only going with tradition, you are making a statement to stay within the traditions, and to reject change to the traditions. It's like Jazz, "the notes you don't play" etc. If you create a world where any deviation is a political statement, you create a world where choosing not to deviate becomes another political statement.
>>737666158I've played great games with terrible OSTs and terrible games with great OSTs. There isn't a strong correlation between the two.
>>737665616>>737666132Turning music off and listening to your own is only acceptable for games where repetitive grind is a main aspect, like Diablo, PoE type games, MMOs where you've done the content a dozen times already, If you play Bloodlines 1 (or any random story game) and turn off the music to play your own you're a sociopath for sure.
>>737666414>>737666107>>737665864>>737665384It's the same shit as Jacobellis v. Ohio
>>737667309Doesn't that just change the statement to "I don't want any politics I disagree with"?
>>737665384Listen boy, if some fucko from the pissarse of Belgium threatens my vassal in Japan, which in turn threatens my grand vizier, who incidentally is the whole reason my horse is still a governor, I'm going to get a little bit ticked off.
>>737665303The current gaming landscape is the best it's ever been and anyone complaining just doesn't want to adapt to ever changing generational interests and likes to nitpick about the small imperfections rather than focus on the large leaps in advancements that have been made over the past 5 decades.
