This is what every multiplayer or competitive game should strive for. If your game is too convoluted to get started, it discourages new people from joining, which inevitably causes stagnation and a slow death.
There's a reason why Smash mogs every fighting game in terms of popularity. You don't need to learn one shot giga complicated combos you've been practicing for months. The funniest thing is that competitive Smash was completely accidental.
Another great example of this, as much as you may hate it, are MOBAs. Unlike RTS, it's very easy to get started and have fun, but hard to master. This allows a constant renewal of the competitive scene.
