It actually gave you multiple choice to assess the situation rather than just "use tool and click". You'd meet 30 year old dudes and people younger than yourselves and talk shit at each other and be edgy for the sake of being edgy.Developers were just having fun with the freedom of an industry that didn't have a lot of elitism or rules, while having a ton of financial momentum.That's what gaming was. What it is today is like music when Spotify was made. That's IMO when music died. There's still going to be good games, and there's still occasionally music I like, but there is not the same fascination with it, that made it something people truly talked about before. Because it's just a big commodity, and there are safeguards and rules everywhere, and the next thing is Unions, and protections that will kill any studio that hasn't been ruined yet, because it makes it illegal to fire gay people, if you don't like them, or jews, or browns.Gaming was good before it became 'other-minded'. It was an egotistical endeavor by people being creative, and figuring things out together, not thinking about the "implications" of what they were doing.
