Is /v/ capable of having a video-game centric discussion when it comes to City Building Games Thread

Workers and Resources is the perfect fusion of Factorio style gameplay and city building
>>
i wish i hand the single-minded nature that was required for games like this. a few hours in and i'm tired of looking at the same plot of land

That's why I usually have the long term goal of covering the entire map in sprawl. Helps me handle the land I'm working on knowing it is just a foothold in to a new section

>i have a long term goal of making my city bigger
wow your level of imaginative emergent gameplay is at a degree i'll never comprehend

You would be surprised, anon. Many people are content to fill up a small square of land with as many people as possible and call it quits
>>
>>737695781
yeah yeah and it hurt your feelings when i lumped you in together with them as serial lot-starers. Explaining how you're different isn't changing my mind. I'm sure you'll survive.

I don't care about your opinions because you don't play city building games
>>
>>737694937
This game made me realize that I dont really care or logistics or economy in a city builder, I want assets and ways to make pretty cities with minimal actual simulation.
A good public transport system is a plus but thats it.

Cities Skyline 1 with all the DLCs pirated is my current go to.
>>
What's the BEST city builder, bros? I think the last one I played might have been Sim City 2.
>>
>>737696542
Depends on what you're looking for. See the post above yours
>>
>>737696651
I don't know what I'm looking for but maybe I'll look into Cities Skylines
>>
>>737696959
Dont get fooled by there being a Cities Skylines 2, it was fucked on launch and the OG team has left so it will never be good.
>>
I really like Tropico 3 because it's silly and the edicts are fun.
4 doesn't cut it for me because it's a bit of a technical downgrade from 3, and the DLCs make the game too easy.
3's music is also the best.

I play that game on realistic mode with 1920 start so progress for building a city for me is very very slow. I just work on random stuff or quit when I get bored. Sooner or later I get bored of whatever else I'm doing and then I'm back with new ideas anyway lol.

It can be very hard if you dive in head first with everything enabled but I recommend going in slowly with most systems disabled. I think it runs pretty well but it can bog down when you get massive numbers of citizens

Runs great at least early on - with huge pops it doesn't run so good. Getting into it... it depends on your preferences I guess. Also the difficulty you select. If you play full realistic mode it can be quite nasty, specially first time around. It doesn't tell you how things like water infrastructure, power infrastructure and such work, so you can brick it up and then fixing it isn't easy or fast. With the easier difficulty modes where you don't have to build everything yourself it's pretty easy to plop your city down and fix it if it's broken.

Looks great. How do you tend to handle your water distribution? I see three water towers
I like to have a single long pipeline that uses large pumps to branch out
>>
>>737695105
Depending on how strictly you define "city builder", Against the Storm tried to do a roguelite spin on it. Fantastic game.
>>
>>737698802
Not him, but I do water distribution by having something that stores water (I use the underground water tanks) and then use 2 big pumps to pull water out of those to spread it to 6 substations. With the water towers you don't need pumps, but pressure can be too low if you have extremely high water draw and use splitters.

I use the passive splitters only if I know draw is going to be very low so pressure doesn't matter.
>>
>>737695105
Agreed, I would like a city build as a means to and end rather than the game itself. It's the same issue with games like Euro Truck Simulator and such, it's nice to drive around but there isn't any end goal aside from enjoying the simulation it self. I wish you could build a city and pin it against wars or send your population to fight or excavate or explore, something along those lines.

What's a good recommendation for a first timer anons?

I usually overdo it with utilities since I tend to expand cities later on.
its two large water treatment plants for a city of 15k people. I use the water tower for back up supply and then feed into water switches to distribute everything.
water overproduction isnt really an issue since it only consumes chemicals only if water is needed, nevermind if you have two large chemical plants.
providing power was the main issue at some point.
>>
>>737699042
fun fact, your citizens use more water if you pressurize it.
supplying substations via truck consumes less water since there is nothing pushing the water.

songs of syx brother, you build an entire city from ground up and then conscript half of the population for your army where you fight your neighbors total was style and then you raid their cities and enslave their people for witch you need to build up entire concentration camps and fill them with prisoners that you then slowly enslave and sell on the open market

it also has some ästatic time lapses

Autists turned beach sand in to city building games.
>>
>>737699602
This. Much more straightforward and explains concepts much easier. Tutorials online actually help and if you fuck up it isn't that difficult to fix something. I debate getting back into it.
>>
>>737699505
Yeah I know. Supplying water with technical services directly to substations is pretty viable early game, for non water using industries or tiny towns meant to only man a fire station. But it becomes nonviable pretty fast for a town meant to do anything more.

Fun game, but got burned out on it after spending 50 hours on a successful city only for an update to do something weird and completely cripple my population growth, leading to a death spiral.

I enjoy how they're done in this game but I have yet to use it to its fullest potential
>>
>>737700143
It was probably not an update, the death spiral was always there. Pollution, epidemics, turbo crime and losing access to water or another necessity can tank your population massively and very quickly. Pollution is the worst since it's not instant. You might get the effect of something you build more than a couple of years down the line.
>>
>>737700227
in a recent bballjo video he reviewed a map with a massive airport in the center of it.
I guess you can only utilize them if you heavily rely on tourism since exporting via air makes little sense.
airport is around the 18 minute mark.
