one of my favourte obscure video game facts is about the reznors from super mario worldthey were originally not planned to be in the game, instead you were supposed to fight the boom booms (spinny arm koopas) from mario bros 3 in some of the castleshowever a month before the game was due to ship, miyamoto rushed into nintendo HQ covered in sweat and handed a crumpled up peice of paper to tezuka. on the paper was a drawing of a demonic looking rhyno that looked like it was straight from hell, spitting demonic hellfire from it's mouth. tezuka knew what he had to do and coded them into the game as castle bosses. 13 days after the game released, miyamoto took a day off work, the first time ever since he joined the company. it turned out that he went to the zoo with his niece, who fell over the railings into the rhyno cage and was eaten alive by 4 evil looking rhynos. ever since then, miyamoto refused to ever reference these enemies again, and the only time they were brought back (new super mario bros 2) miyamoto burst into the nintendo HQ and threatened to kill whoever added them to the game, before he was sadated and given his meds to calm him down. creepy shit, idk why no one ever talks about this...
