I just finished playing through both Metro 2033 and Last Light for the first time. I played the redux versions.

I loved the world building, the story and the characters, and I thought the gameplay/gunplay was also pretty good, but fighting the same Nosalis and Watchmen enemies over and over again got kind of annoying.

With the redux version of Last light however, I encountered a few bugs. A major bug was where my stealth take downs stopped working halfway through the game, and I also found myself able to pass through certain objects like stairs.

My favourite part of 2033 was the library, but overall, I prefered Last light over 2033.

What are your thoughts?

I'm moving onto Exodus next, and I've been told it's quite different. I am also looking forward to Metro 2039 :D

I still haven't played Exodus, but the original 2033 is one of my favorite slavjank vidyas of all time, right next to Stalker SoC. Redux has smoother, although easier gameplay, but the atmosphere of the OG version has something that was missing in it. As for Last Light, my favorite thing about it were its DLCs, especially the non-linear one where you play as a stalker collecting various things on the surface.

I have yet to play the DLCs, but playing as a faction soldier intrigues me :D

I played the VR one Metro Awakening, it was OK but pretty basic, barely any enemy types and it got boring even after only a few hours. a low budget tech demo

What exactly are the differences in the redux versions?
I mostly liked these games but I found the stealth to be mostly nonfunctional and there was an egregiously bad part where I was stuck in a walk & talk section while Artyom was out of filters and gasping for air

its broken

From what I can tell/have read, many of the changes are in 2033.
Many of the levels have been combined into longer levels. For example, in the original, you get to the library and the level ends. Now, there is a fight outside the library, and the level continues into the library.
They also added stuff from last light into 2033 :)

True haha. Also, I swear Artyom has the worst melee attack in a game that I have ever played lol.

>I played the redux versions.

I'm sorry for your loss OP. You did not play 2033 unless you played the original, its a shame your experience had to be tainted like that.

>>737697653
2033 is practically a remake, for the better and for the worse.
Last light is the same game with minor tweeks.

Sadly I was not quick enough to get it before it was removed from Steam :(

I actually tried emailing them about this bullshit, they could've gave the original with the redux, especially 2033 and they basically told me that it wasn't possible.

>take downs stopped working
This was at the railroad bandit camp huh? It's a bug that has existed since launch, and the only way is to restart a whole new save or use someone else's. Also, the issue with the Redux versions is the massively dumbed down AI stealth, everything else is an upgrade in my opinion.

>What are your thoughts?
It's just a slav flavored call of duty campaign, are you serious with this lmao
>>
>>737700595
Yep, it was at the bandit camp. Kind of ruined the rest of the experience for me :(

You didn't play Metro 2033 then. Simple as.

My Bourbon deserved better.

He was a bro till the end.

Even then, he shows up at the bad ending to Exodus to guide us in the after life.

Going in blind, I was expecting Bourbon to betray me haha.

Well in the novel he wrote in his journal that he intended to betray you.

Game Bourbon was a top tier bro.

I feel like I'm the only person that enjoyed Redux more than OG (only slightly, to be fair). Visually it's a bit of a tie, but the expanded outdoor sections were great; they felt like a different game. I also remember the stupid slimeball section being less troublesome.

You are not missing out on THAT MUCH if you play Redux instead of OG 2033.

I've always prefered OG Metro 2033 over any of the others. I maybe like Exodus more than LL, but even Exodus kind of took away a lot of what made the others good. It is fun, but the different zones I found a little bit boring, and the one zone I did like atmosphere wise, was the most streamlined and bare bones of them. I loved Exodus the first time, but did a playthrough recently of all the non-redux games and didn't even finish Exodus.

>>737701904
Nah, 2033 redux is a different game, last light is almost the same, just some very minor things.

The forth reich is based on the ruzzian invading Ukraine

Great series, but gets buggier as you go along.
Exodus was definitely the buggiest and glitchiest and most frustrating time I had with the series, but it has very high peaks as well.
