Metroid Prime 4 is the first one that comes to mind, but recentism is definitely playing a part. That's kind of the problem. You remember good games because they're good. You remember shit games because of the pain they caused you. Meh games just kind of get forgotten.

This game is just plain weird, it'll stick in your mind but you probably won't want to play it again. The most memorable scene is the 3 levels where you play as Shrek, Donkey, and Puss and each have to go through the prison to get out on your own, meeting each other along the way as your levels intersects with each others. By the time you're playing as Puss, this is the 3rd time you've done this so the characters just kinda shit talk the fact they've done this 3 times in a row. the whole game has this liminal space feel to it. It's also made with he Harry Potter p.c games engine so the controls are exactly like that. I know I'm talking it up but the game while aesthetically weird and memorable, it's also made for 5 year olds, but the gameplay plays like it was made for 13-15 year olds.

Pokemon firered and leafgreen

But, specifcally if you grew up having played red/blue already

It's fine but not worth trading the crude soul/jank/nostalgia kino of the originals for
.
It is not worth gaining slightly ok colour sprite work, pointless Metal claw on Charmander, awful early gen abilities, Raticate being able to Bite Ghosts, Magnemite being Steel type, etc. none of this shit makes the better, but also not worse. The Sevi islands also suck balls may as well not exist

You NEVER go back and replay this shit, it's not even a good example of a remake HG/SS is right there. You have played Romhacks based on this engine more than you have played the game itself. But you could and have a 5/10 time

.

Did you guys never go through the bargain bins at Walmart, Gamestop, or Blockbuster? Those where full of 5/10 games.

I remember games like Buzz Party, EA's Playground, Code Name Steam, Steel Diver, or Crash Bash those are 5/10 games. They aren't great, but not exactly terrible.

This is one of those games where I don't understand what people see in it and I really don't understand how it got sequels. The concept is cool, but the execution is dog awful. Especially once the game starts giving you guns and sends you into the city it completely falls apart, the zombie spawn points are jank at the best of times, levelled items and rpg mechanics shoved into a game that already wasn't very good in the first place. For me it's a firm 3/10 and that's being generous.

perfect, I got starfield for free and played 10 hours before giving up.
I think that perfectly encapsulates a 5/10 experience, not bad enough that one immediately stops playing or refunds, but enough for 2-3 sessions hoping it gets better, and eventually just bruning out and realizing it's bland.

I actually didn't know it was in it's top ten. The point still stands that it was incredibly middling. A little buggy, fun for all of like half an hour. Rather repetitive even for an atari game. My ultimate point was that it wasn't really a bad game, just very underwhelming. People like to claim that it was so bad it crashed the market, but it didn't. Atari crashed the market by constantly eroding the trust of their customers time and time again. ET was just the game we can point to where that was incredibly visible.

this so much
there's nothing super bad about it, but also nothing memorable, I only remember the smug priest companion, nothing about the story or gameplay
I got it for free at least

No one ever points to ET as the sole reason for the video game crash. ET definitely wasn't a good or average game and definitely had bad reception even back then, it wasn't some totally praised game that just had its perception changed over the years. A system having a bunch of 2/10s doesn't suddenly make a 4/10 good, if anything that shows why the crash happened, the market was flooded with shit so terrible that you're also falling into the trap of acting like a bad video is actually not bad because everything else was worse.

ET is not middling, it is bad
>>
The Outer Worlds. It is so painfully middling that it almost makes it bad. But I don't want to complain about how bad that is because that would imply it illicited some form of emotional response within me, when it got absolutely no reaction out of me at all. It's the very literal definition of slop. It's a lifeless, formless, tasteless pile of nothing that no one can really like or dislike because it's so painfully inoffensive. It doesn't do anything good or bad, it just doesn't do anything at all. I am certain I played through the entire game and I cannot tell you the name of a single quest, character, fuck I can't even properly describe what the plot was. If you tried to convince me that I never played it, when I am absolutely certain I did, I wouldn't argue with you.
It's one big giant nothing.

I hate retards that take the educational "A B C D F" rating and apply it to video games. If something is a 5/10, that does not mean it is a bad game. However, if you're taking a test and you only get 5 out of every 10 questions correct, I'd say you're a failure for barely knowing half of whatever shit you're testing for.
For video games, 5 is dead center. Anything above is in the territory of good, and anything below is in the territory of bad. A 5.5 game is ok, overall unremarkable but has some good qualities. A 4.5 is not great, not the worst game ever but certainly below average veering towards mediocre.

This question really is strangely hard to answer. Either a game is flawed but I still like it enough to rate it higher than average (like Disciples II), or it annoyed me enough that I want to rate it lower than average (like Hogwarts Legacy). But still:
>Dear Esther
>Silent Hill series
>most boomer shooters

It depends on your definition of 5/10. The modern reviewer mindset is that anything below a 7 is generally hot fucking garbage, where it should actually have room for bland or middling experiences.

It's the difference between scoring as a percentage, and scoring as a percentile. If you want to be above the average 50%, you have to do shit right at least 70% of the time.

Drakengard's funny because I wouldn't even say that the storytelling itself was incredible. It's disjointed and fragmented, and doesn't even always try to justify the differences leading up to its wildly different endings.

But for the time it was made and the themes it dared to touch upon, it is wildly memorable. In a time of bland musous and generic fantasies, it was a full-on cosmic horror with a cast of violently insane characters and haunting atmosphere.

Yes. If you were stuck in a room for a weekend with nothing for entertainment but Starfield, you'd have an ok time. There's lots of stuff to do, with largely functional and sometimes competent systems. You can shoot some people, fly around a bit, have a space battle, go around an outpost and talk to people and pick up quests.

But nothing about the game is interesting, or thought provoking or challenging or mechanically satisfying. The setting is almost, but not quite interesting for how fucking dull and bland it is. In isolation it's adequate, but there's no way it's ever going to be the best option available and you would miss our on nothing if you didn't play it.

I'm not gonna play a 5/10 videogame for long enough to confidently describe one as such due to not having played very much of it

Running With Rifles. Its the definition of a okay game. It's not amazing, its not great, its not bad, its not horrid. Its a solidly okay and not much else game that needed about 50 hours of polish to become a 6-7/10 but won't ever get it for real.
