It's really the sort of game that only shines when 3 or 4 people play as pickups become something to strategize over as only one person can get the benefits. in singleplayer this aspect is gone as you get them all.

years ago i had like a 70 page draft doc about ideas and mechanics for a dark legacy spiritual successor because no one has fucking made one, 8 new classes, new realms, updated mechanics (namely making the GCN exclusive inventory setup way less shit-tastic and buggy), and none of it went anywhere because i'm not fucking smart enough to make video games and knew i couldn't include the soul that midway and their low res cheese exist on

I see a fire potion, I don't pick it up. Simple as.

I played the Blue Wizard all the way up to 9999 in every stat and unlocked every character and was going to 9999 all of them too.
Then my joystick gave out and started leaning to the left permanently.
I still have the game but haven't gotten around to buying a new controller.
