I'm replaying Mass Effect 2. They really do not make games that are good like this anymore. No one seems to want to or be able to do it. Bioware can't, maybe it's just a sign of the times. It's over.

industry in such a dire state people are romanticizing a bad gears of war clone that gutted all RPG elements and had a main plot so bad it derailed the rest of the franchise

don't do that

>equip gun with big damage number
>slot in upgrades the further embiggen the damage number
ME1 is not a deep RPG. They did kneejerk way too hard in the other direction making it a cover shooter like gears, but having a gorillion different guns in each class that are all functionally identical to each other with a couple very rare exceptions is not something I missed.

>>737708541
still my personal favorite mass effect even if 1 is better. i like the "outside the law" thing it had as opposed to the military stuff
>>
all mass effect games are SLOP

Mass Effect 2 was a herald of the brave nu era of video games, dumbing everything about the first game down to appeal to a wider audience. You were the cancer that killed video games all along, anon.
>>
>>737709413
well i still like it so why don't you just take a chill pill
>>
>>737709031
Me1 was way better than ME2 even with worse combat it had a far more extensive skill tree and cool planets to explore. ME2 is hogwash that tried to ape Gears of War and did a terrible job, me3 is better than me2.
>>
>>737709418
ME1 was just dumbed down KoTOR which was just dumbed down BG
If you like any Bioware game you were also the cancer
>>
>>737709509
ME3 is worse because it's just ME2 but more linear and even worse writing.
>>
>>737709358
This is a massive improvement over the shitty Mako sections from the first game.
Both should have been cut but if I had to pick one it's planet scanning all day.
>>737709509
>far more extensive skill tree
lol
>>
>>737709520
ME1 has far better writing than KOTOR so it wins by default.
Seriously if you haven't played KOTOR 1 in a while you might not realize just how painfully cringe it is.

This has gotta be a troll. Planet scanning isn't even an exploration/questing element. It's literally a mining minigame. The actual comparison would be N7 missions, which were also shit.

The Mass Effect franchise was extremely proto-woke. If you liked it, you're part of the problem.
>>
>>737709854
The sidequests in 1 are some of the worst shit in the series. The game is actively better if you ignore them.
>>
>>737710492
Wrong. 3's side quests are the worst.
>>
>>737708541
It feels like everyone just sort of ran out of ideas all at once.
>>
>>737710696
How do you figure that? They usually just amount to "scan this planet", which takes maybe a minute or two, whereas 1 was 5-10 minutes of awkwardly bouncing around samey environments in the jank-ass Mako.
>>
> Bioware in their last gasp is going to shit out a turd that includes the milky way thus ruining the lore of the trilogy

its going to be horrible.
>>
>>737711446
Yeah its going it be horrible but not because it is set in the milky way. Just make destroy cannon ending where shep lives and make the game take place in the years of rebuilding after the reaper war.
>>
>>737711770
>>737711446
Leaks have said it's going to take place 600 years after so it can line up with the Amazon TV show. So yes, it will be unrepentant shit.
>>
>>737711859
> 600 years after
> no shepherd

yep thats a flop if ive ever seen one.
>>
>>737711859
I wish i fuuucking wish my mind could block all news from this shit, They mindrape me by raping the games and series i used to love.
>>
>>737711770
They should make half of it take place in the Milky Way shortly after 3, with "Control" the canonical choice with Shepard and the Reapers leaving for dark space and shutting off all their various thrall immediately after repairs are completed, and half of it take place in the Andromeda galaxy long enough after Andromeda that you don't have to acknowledge its events directly, and so the galaxy will be more established, with Liara serving as the narrative connective tissue, going on a centuries-spanning quest to find Shepard. Maybe there's also some kind of plotline involving activating a relay network in Andromeda in order to allow near-instantaneous travel between the galaxies.
>>
>>737710908
Do you even like video games?
>>
>>737712183
>Control
No destroy is the best. The game starts with killing a reaper and it should end with killing all reapers.
>>
>>737711446
>ruining the lore of the trilogy
ME2 already did that.
>>
>>737712231
Non-shitty ones, yes. You're welcome to enjoy plodding through the same prefab mazes for the 20th time shooting the same enemies with the same music and sound effects, but it's just not for me.
>>
>>737708681
Yup, fippybippy
>>
>>737712183
Honestly just retcon that piece of shit game and forget about it.
>>
>>737712313
Destroy is best if you just want to leave it as a trilogy, but if you want to continue the story, Control makes more sense. You're pointlessly cutting off a number of potential plotlines and characters if you go with Destroy in the long-term.
>>
>>737708541
>>737708681
We just don't have the tech to recreate that anymore
>>

>>

>>
>>737713161
We were talking about 3, which streamlined the planet scanning to basically nothing.
>>
>>737713252
>Non-shitty
Why do you like ME3 then?

>I'm replaying Mass Effect 2. They really do not make games that are good like this anymore. No one seems to want to or be able to do it. Bioware can't, maybe it's just a sign of the times. It's over.
The best game in the series. I don't even care what others wrote in this thread.
>It doesn't move forward the plot
>Everything bad about 3 is a byproduct of 2
>The human Reaper made no sense
>Shepard dying only to be revived is stupid!
>Daddy issues
>They forgot about the Terminus Systems lore
>This pistol doesn't have a thermal clip
See, I know all of those things, and I LIKE Mass Effect 2 and they don't even do anything negative to my enjoyment of it. It's not even that I like it in spite of those "problems", it's that I LIKE ME2 including those things.

Honestly feels like the weakest of the trilogy after doing 1 and 2 back to back and having played 3 a few years ago via piracy.
>worse RPG than the first
>missions inconsequential to the overarching story, its all recruiting and a single person quest for each
>worse combat than the third but also the first, it doesn't have the new fun/broken stuff from 3 but adds armor/barrier shit making the third person shooting aspect feel tedious
>>
>>737708541
the bar is so low right now, anyone can make a game
>>
>>737713345
>They forgot about the Terminus Systems lore
Did they? The ME1 codex says that the terminus system is filled with slavers and is violent and unorganized. ME2 reflects that.
>>
>>737713518
>that play time
kek
>>
>>737713614
>do every major side quest/loyalty mission between both games
I'd have to launch it but I think I did whatever is under Insanity. Its replaying for the 3rd time for both at this point, I wasn't going to every squadmate and talking to them between every main mission like in 2007/2010. I know their story, moving on.
>>
>>737713614
''people'' here most of the time don't even play games, and if they do they rush them the fastest way they can to get their bing bing wahoo gamo completo points.
>>
>>737713513
Awful armor design
>>
>>737713614
ME1 is like 25 hours max even if you do every quest and talk to everyone.
>>
>>737709358
>>737709642
>>737709854
I want a mix of both, where you can probe some planets, but some you can explore with the Mako and discover resources/outposts or side quests like in the first game.
>>
>>737709031
>having a gorillion different guns in each class that are all functionally identical to each other with a couple very rare exceptions
But that's not true. You can build any weapon class into a number of different functions and the stats that matter for each function are different.
>>
Couldn't Shepard have just gotten stranded somewhere for 2 years instead of dying and being brought back to life?
>>
>>737708541
>They really do not make games like this anymore
Thank fuck. Mass Effect 2 killed Mass Effect.
>>
>>737713570
In the opening with Anderson and Nihlus he talks about keeping the mission secret because it's near the Attican Traverse (or maybe that part is later in the game) which is bad because "it would start a war between Citadel species and the Terminus Systems".
It was heavily implied prior to ME2 that the universe is much bigger than what is seen in ME1 with many more aliens and a sort of anti-council.

That's what they try to make with Omega, but they reduced it to something that would just have the same species but "rogue" versions of them, and something that has no political threat to the Citadel. They make it sound like an "East vs West" thing in the first game, and I wonder if they avoided it because it's too geopolitical, and they were also shipping the games to Russia.
>>
>>737708541
>ruined Mass Effect
>good
>>
>>737717521
Shepard dying and coming back to life is symbolic for the main plot of ME2 being a loop where a bunch of shit happens, but in a way that puts you right back to where you started.
