This was before all the bullshit amounts of monetization took hold and this was the gen that was the beginning of the mass normification of video games. Which you can mostly thank Halo and GTA for that. The gen at least was still secured since it was early enough before they can really ruin anything and for the most part were not connected online. You can see Xbox OG though as the beta version of what was to come even though you could still very much use it as an offline console for the most part and DLC's weren't absolutely essential in most cases besides maybe Halo if you played that online religiously. It was also sad to see DC not having much time to be on the market because if it stuck around I probably never would have even gotten an Xbox. GC seemed like it was the clear weak link in this gen imoi. PS2 obviously being the strongest due to the sheer amount of games available for it.

My brother killed our PS2 though by watching too many DVDs on it. It started only being able to read the discs with the purple backs. Gamecube was kinda meh. It was basically animal crossing, wind waker, and melee. I would eventually go on to play lots of Melee in my life, but not during Gen 6. Xbox was okay. Halo was cool. There was always something to play, in every genre, including ones you never even knew existed. You could walk into a store, fish something out of the bargain bin, and even if it was shit, chances are it was at least an entertaining novelty. There was a thriving AA industry in addition to AAAs constantly pushing new ground in interesting ways. It felt like gaming could only get better over time.
