Based on recent events, we can actually gauge how bad DT was besides lost of player numbers which was generally expected as covid lockdown ended, people started going back to office, WoW players left the homeymoon phase>Yoshida demanded more money from the SE president>They are moving back to 3-month patch schedule instead of the current 4-month one>They are redoing the player combat to be more active instead of rigid 2-minute meta people bitched about since SHB>Yoshida is forcing himself out of mini-retirement after spending all of SHB and EW saying how he wanted to take it easy once the Hydaelyn and Zodiark saga endedIn other words, DT was 1.0 levels of disaster behind the scenes. It was BAD bad for all of this to happen, it's especially worth considering that Yoshida was one good expansion away from allowing someone else to become director of XIV but now he views it as his mission to once again salvage XIV from near-death. It's dire, and they're pulling out all the stops for Evercold.

It's honestly kinda hard to set it all up, because unlocking the job, then doing their job quests, especially the level 10 and level 30 ones, while also doing the MSQ, while also switching jobs every quest to make sure exp is spread out, is probably a lot to manage if you're just going through the MSQ for the first time. If you get bored of the MSQ, maybe pick 1 or 2 other jobs you are interested in, go unlock those, do your Hunt logs and some roulettes (or palace of the dead) to get them caught up to your main, and then resume the MSQ after you have them all caught up.

Compared to basically everyone else in the story up to that point, even the present Scions who act like cheerleaders, Wuk basically stumbles into success and never seriously faces enough adversity to push her to her limits on it; the few times something beyond her reach occurs, we just fix it for her.The story has no balls, no risks, no consequences. A lot of folks think people were mad about DT because it had no stakes, but we went in expecting a low-stakes adventure from the start. It's that short of Gulool Ja Ja's and Zoraal Ja's deaths, there are no consequences that anyone seriously cares about and everything just resolves itself more like a Pokemon story. The patch cycle tries to fix this a bit but it's really more setup for the next big thing.
