You play as a rank and file BSAA soldier who gets sent in with automatic weapons, lots of ammo and a squad to combat B.O.Ws to placate the actionfags for about 10 mins until things go pear-shaped, an evac is ordered and you + your squad are left behind and separated due to plot circumstances. You're also left with just a pistol.Chris and Jill appear later on to demonstrate their power level and be figures to look up to but the protag is ultimately the one who fights the final boss whatever it is.Playing through Singularity and multiple Marine AVP campaigns back to back of military ops against monsters going FUBAR makes you daydream.
Three characters, one plays first person and has a focus on horror stealth, one plays third person and has a focus on action horror, one plays fixed camera and plays like traditional resident evil.
