What is the best monster/demon training RPG with the best art and story and gameplay?I hear Ni No Kuni, SMT V: Vengeance Monster Hunter Stories 3 are well regarded.
MH Stories 3 is the pinnacle of the entire sub-genre.
>>737725184I thoroughly enjoyed Ni No Kuni and SMT V but stories is aggressively mid, even with the combat “perfected” in 3 it still just isn’t a fun system. Pokemon is the best even if it’s not what people want to hear.
>>737725810>stories is aggressively mid, even with the combat “perfected” in 3I think Stories is the only deep battle system in the whole genre. The reasoning is that the monsters have actual patterns that you're trying to figure out in real time.If we take the most complex creature game battle system, which is probably Pokemon's 2vs2 battles, your move pool and focus is on a Pokemon's immediate weakness, instead of what a monster can adjust to like in Stories. That's why Stories is so good, because it gets outside of that JRPG trope of simply choosing attacks from a menu to where you're studying and trying to rationalise what a boss monster is going to do.
>>737725184Show this to a hardcore MH fan and they will ask you "What has Pokemon to do with MH? We kill monsters! Not raise them!" Then show them MHS and they will genuinely get extremely confused. Most of hardcore MH players HAVE NO IDEA that MHS exists.
>>737725184This is the objective BEST this sub-genre has to offer. There's a better version of it, but it's only in Japanese.>>737726209By that logic, Dragon Seeds for the PS1 is deep.
>>737726490I've been playing MH since F2 and I love Stories.
>>737726490This kind of logic doesn't work because not only was Stories 3 very popular, but they even got collaborations and ads for it in Wilds.
>>737727005almost there anonpic related is where the genre and turn-based rpgs as a whole peakedJoker 2 did pave the way for it
>>737727005There's DQMJ3 Professional, you can ride your monsters there
>>737727095MHS2 sold one million on its first month, MHS3 has been out for a month and hasn't gotten any celebration post from Capcom.
>>737725362They didn’t add my favorite monsters that got cucked in stories 2, so i dropped stories (and really MH as a whole given recent game quality) forever Pokemon meanwhile at least has the older titles and tcg to occupy me. MH is dead to me until we get a port of 3U or 4U
>>737727356>they didn't add my favourite pokemon so i dropped it?Pokemon is doing terrible right now.
There are some really good recent Pokemon games with Black/White, Sun/Moon and Legends Arceus.Unfortunately in between those games, it's just been these really rough games with 1 year of development time.
>>737727182I heard that one sucked.
>>737729531No? The fan translation is ass but the game is pretty cool
>>737726209>if monster use power then use speedWooooow so deep. It’s fucking boring dude. In Pokemon a Pokemon that’s “weak” to a type can still have the situational advantage due to moves or stats and there’s mind games involved. Stories is just simple “if X then Y” checks for the entire game
this is the first I'm hearing of MHS and it seems pretty interesting. how story heavy is it? (as in will I have to mash through text boxes every 5 minutes)and is it better on 3DS or on PC?
>>737730494They're not very text heavy. A lot of it will automatically play as you run around the overworld, so you can just ride and read.I haven't played MHS1, but I think the 3DS version comes with some exclusive DLC. The PC version will likely run better though. Stories 2 and 3 have demos, so you can try them first. These games for the most part get better with each release though, so if you want to play the older ones, go in order otherwise it'll be harder to go back.
