Post characters that we know very little about
>>737725602She cannonically >>737725674believes human men should be with human women
>>737725602
>>737725602She cute, thats all you gotta know.
>>737730904How old is she?
>>737726294Prove it
>>737732930I dunno. Somewhere in late teens/early twenties I guess?
>>737725602I just bought this.
series has underrated girls
>>737733549Her situation is weird. She is either sibling with the other bird, or her brother.
>>737733150>>737725602>get the werewolf guy>he's literally raping enemies with his attacks>"oh boy, i can't wait to promote him and get him even stronger">becomes literally the weakest unit in the gameWhat a strange game.
>>737733549aren't they married???
>>737733997Zylo? You should've waited until he got to like level 25. He still levels up really fast.
>>737725602I am going to make a side comment about how this is the perfect proportion for a centaur. She's not bolted onto a horse body, the body matches her frame and they are smaller than a horse.
>>737733997Zylo can get screwed by bad level ups and it's more noticeable because he can't use weapons.
>>737733997this has happened to me only once, and i dont know why. it MIGHT have been that promoted him right away, and then he got screwed by the stat reduction (you lose like 10% of your stats when you promote in sf1) and bad level ups. every other time he has been an absolute monster. then again, i know for sure that the majority of playthroughs i wait until 20 to promote, and other people seem to say that keeps him safe from being useless.
>>737735039>>737734493>>737734054>>737733997I'm gonna play SF1 for the first time today so that's good to know. Any other pro tips i should be aware of?
>>737735104the egress spell is there for a reason. use it if you're about to lose and don't want to lose half your money. another thing i do is take absolutely every fucking mage i can because some late game enemies have a hardcoded 50% dodge chance and it's annoying.
>>737735104https://fantasyanime.com/shiningforce/sf.htmThis site has some useful info. There's a number of missable characters so I used the Hidden Item/Character Guide guide on gamefaqs. Enjoy!
>>737735104for sf1, there are a lot of outdoor battles that are a bit of a slog due to terrain and chokepoints (sf2 fixes this). you just kind of have to deal with it. land effect not only inhibits movement for most characters, but also increases defense (so on forest with a land effect of 30%, you have 30% increased defense or something). the game is in chapters, so once you complete a chapter and move on, you cant go back to pick up anything you missed. picking up items from chests goes to max (the main character). if max is full, you dont pick it up. you have to transfer something to somebody else, then search the chest. its very tedious (sf2 fixes this and just gives it to the next available person).it takes 100xp to level up. if you have 99xp and kill something for 48, you go up in level and start again at 0. there is NO rollover in sf1. (sf2 has rollover)the stats you gain on level up are mostly random, but certain characters have higher inclinations than others (like hans gets speed a bunch). if you're not above save stating and savescumming, you can reload before engaging the fight and try for new stats. sf1 has a rare quirk where sometimes a character will gain zero stats. stats follow a certain chart/curve for each character, and the game tries to ensure that everything ends up about where its supposed to be eventually (like if you dont get attack up for a few levels, the next one might be like +4). stats gains are generally higher after promotion.once a character is level 10, you can promote them to their advanced class. you can level up to 20 before you do this (then you wall). promotion will REDUCE all of their stats by ~10%, so if a character is weakish, they will definitely be weak right after promo. (im a grindfag, so i always go to 20, and i dont have problems). (cont)
>>737725602Really?Because You Just Know
>>737735104>>737736220(cont)enemies give experience until you reach certain levels (you'll notice that you get less, until you face a new, stronger enemy). whenever you promote, your new level 1 counts as "level 10" for this. so if you hit level 20, and some monster is only giving you partial experience, then you promote, killing that monster will give you full experience for quite a while because you jumped down to "level 10" even though you kept most of the stats you earned by pushing past 10 before. some characters join you very underleveled and require some special catering. arthur joins in chapter 2, and he is consistently one of (if not THE) best unit in my team. you just need to cater to him to raise him like 3 or 4 levels, probably put the power ring on him. some characters are a lot harder to get good or keep useful (the birds always fall behind for me, so i ignore them. but some people put in extra effort and love the results)you can escape any battle by using the angel wing item or casting "egress" with max. you keep all of the experience you earned. this way you can repeat and farm any fight you like (i recommend doing it for ones where you dont have to walk far and can reach enemies immediately)death is not permanent, you can just raise them at the church.enemy flying units have stupid evasion. magic can not be evaded and does set damage (plus or minus some minor variance, and the occasional elemental resistance).some battles have an enemy "commander" that if you kill them, the battle ends. once you beat a battle, you cant repeat it, so if you want to farm, avoid fully winning. the game has some cool fights and scenarios, and cool characters. if you like it, sf2 is more of the same, but with a TON of QoL fixes. you dont have to play the first one in order to play the second (the story isnt really connected) but if you can tolerate some of the tedium, i still think sf1 is worth it.
>>737734254No you're right. Problem with anime centaurs is they want to model the horse first, so they make a giant horse body and make the human part itty bitty and it looks silly. You can see this being a properly proportioned character, even if she's more of a pony than a horse.
>>737733997shining force 1 has really rotten level up tables. like Hans who will only get 1 speed per level until promoted.Even 3 can (must?) be reset to hell to be sure you don't miss stats at level ups.
>>737736220>>737736271>>737735104oh! and any item that increases stats (like power water, protect milk, or running pimento/pepper) do NOT use it before promotion. ONLY use such items AFTER promotion.
>>737736635Only cowards reset. I like the shitty RNG stat ups because it forces me to use more of a variety of units on replays based on who gets the better dice rolls.
>>737736220>there are a lot of outdoor battles that are a bit of a slog due to terrain and chokepoints (sf2 fixes this)It adds respawning generic encounters that are even more of a slog.Man I hate SF2. It's like Shining Force except most of the characters aren't cool and it overstays its welcome.
>>737736635yeah, i never use the archers or the birds in sf1. too much work to keep them relevant when other characters are competent with ease. also swords/arrows are paced stupidly so they struggle with damage while other characters get nice new weapons to help out.
>>737736821>It adds respawning generic encountersthere are only a handful of them, and you can easily avoid the trigger squares if you know where the zones are.>most of the characters aren't coolits a bit more cutesy/anime in their design, but it actually has a little bit more diversity than sf1 if you count it out. >it overstays its welcome.its longer, but so is the player and enemy progression. i dunno, i LIKE having "more game". i wish i could have even MORE game with a nice, normal sequel/clone.
>>737735104I'm gonna bust out this bad boy as well for it.
>>737735104if an enemy drops an item after being killed and you egress out of the battle you can kill that enemy again for more of it
Shining Force was great.Back in the day when strategy game music was all memorable.>>737735104There's secret characters you have to egress and go talk to people and push shopping trolleys for and that kind of shit. And a fire axe.
>>737725602>>737730904best archer in the game
>>737738312Insanely low bar but true
>>737737175Shining Force Gaiden trilogy.
Goddamn, I wish centaur panties were real.
>>737733997Guess yours got RNG raped, cause Zylo's considered high tier.
>>737739037It's just that he promoted him at the wrong time, doing so with non-weapon users is fatal
>>737738312>>737738957Because the mages were your actual ranged damage.
>>737739140Even mages are kinda not all that special in SF2 but they go crazy in 3
Also, should i play shining in the darkness first? It's a dungeon crawler but seems to be a prequel to SF1?
>>737739185Mages get their shit kicked in in late-game 2. So many damn enemies are resistant or immune to magic. Yeah, some aren't, but a lot of the bigger assholes are.>>737739196You're gonna get crabby.
>>737739196They share a villain, but otherwise I don't think there's any important connections. If you like dungeon crawlers then go for it, otherwise it's not essential.
>>737739243>So many damn enemies are resistant or immune to magic???? like who?im pretty sure that you're thinking of something else, not 2. did you mean 3? (i never played 3).
>>737739196its worthless unless you like dungeon crawlers.
>>737739196I loved that game so I'd recommend it, but like the other anon said you can play Shining Force without it if you want to.
>>737739323No, I recall enemies in the late and endgame of 2 being pretty resistant to magic. Dragons IIRC.
>>737739243It's also that the HP scaling makes a lot of spells become useless quick until summons are the only ones that deal decent damage. And then at that point, you don't get all that many casts because they're high MP and you have to target single enemies on their own because summons spread their damage among all targets hit. Just to deal damage that's about the same as your melee heavy hitters. Hitting from one space away is just generally not worth that high of tradeoff
>>737739273That was a localization change. He was Mephisto originally, and actually the villain from SF1's son. https://shining.fandom.com/wiki/Mephisto
>>737739584>because summons spread their damage among all targets hitDamn, I had no idea until today.
>>737739480nothing is immune to any damaging spell. the white dragons and flowers have some resistance to freeze, and the hellhounds and pyrohydras are resistant to blaze. resistance is only damage reduction, not immunity.
>>737739639I remember as a kid being very disappointed with summons until I happened to target a single enemy and it finally clicked
>>737739674Interesting. That explains a bit.
>>737739584blaze 3 doing about 18 to all in the areablaze 4 doing something like 40-45 damage single target for 10 manafreeze 3 doing about 20 to all in the areafreeze 4 doing 50-60 single target for 12 manabolt 2 doing 15-20, and bolt 3 doing 20-25 in the BIG area.tyrin wizard is fine. he gets freeze 3 by 31(p11) and freeze 4 by 38(p18). guaranteed damage, no damage reduction (except for a small handful of resistances), range, he does fine. freeze 4 will 1shot pretty much anything on parmecia, and either kill or do like 80-90% hp most things on grans.the summons are cute, but the damage spread usually puts their real damage output as lower than the other spells for WAY more mana.
>>737739480>>737739674
>>737740110>double-check this with another source>Slade's ninja spells are element-neutral despite their animationsWhat the fuck?!
>>737733343based, I want to get this one too
>>737740442yeah it was news to me as well, but i never really use them unless he cant reach a target, because his attack always does significantly more than whatever level of spell he has at all stages of the game.
Sucks the developer only does nintendo sports games now. We'll never see an other Shining game
>>737740884Certainly a choice on Camelot's part. I wonder if they have the same properties in the gaiden games and in 3.
>>737735104play the GBA version. it has more content
>>737740971"Haha, what do you mean, Anon? We've had lots of GREAT Shining ganes, haha!"https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games/franchise/1606-shining
>>737736808Same, played through every single Shining Force game except the GBA 1 remake, and I loved every single one and didn't have an issue with the semi-randomised stat ups. It's perfectly fine as long as you are aware of your units, and know when to retire/bench a character, when to switch them up, when to promote, etc. etc. It's really not a difficult game, and I see no reason at all to savescum unless you're doing some weird challenge run (permadeath/no resurrections, etc. etc.).Also Shining Force 4 when sega?
>>737737463based and segapilled
>>737737216Max x Mae OTP
>>737739243>You're gonna get crabby.
>>737740442>Slade's ninja spells are element-neutral despite their animationsHUH????what the shit????i never knew that despite loving shining force 2
>>737741462>Also Shining Force 4 when sega?Almost, when they made a gacha game of Shining Force before they cancel it.
>>737741565>she got with fucking Ken>Max proceeds to fuck off for about two (or more) decades only to just pal around with his nephew, Ian, for some years before either dying or fucking off again>doesn't even visit or write his old force buddies>Ian fucking dies years before SF2 even starts and we don't even see who or what killed himWhat THE FUCK was his problem?
Obligatory.
>>737741184As someone who's played most of them, here are my ratings:Shining Force Neo: 4/10 it's alright and fun for a bit but gets grindy & has HIDEOUS eng voice-acting; never finished itShining Force Exa: 8/10 big improvement over neo, better pacing, better dungeons and has one of the sweetest slow-burn romances in RPGsShining Tears: 6/10 decent diablo clone that's worth a play but is bogged down by donkey ass-balls levels of loading screens and imbalanced gameplay in lategame/postgameShining Wind: 7/10 plays much better than tears but I did not like the story, shit was not written well in my opinionShining Force Feather: 8/10 very classical SF but without the grins, this is very enjoyable and is of the perfect length, only complaint is that 90% of the voice-acting is in the first half, 2nd half is muteShining Heart: 6/10 turn-based RPG with weird baking minigames and life simulation bits, was fine but the pacing is a bit slow Shining Blade: 8/10 one of the best post-camelot Shinings, good graphics & music & characters, only major complaint is that it's too easy out side of bossesShining Ark: 6/10 like blade, very good but story is too weird and the heroine is some weird autist with a speech impediment
>>737741608>Milo and Pyra are named Bilbo and Merlin in japaneseI knew about Pyra, but I just learned about Milo, that's kinda funny how blatant it is.
>>737742000>the heroine is some weird autist with a speech impedimentlol, please elaborate.
>>737742064pic related she's like a 11-year old girl who had a troubled development during her toddler days, as a result she can't speak well and sometimes sounds mentally-challenged.I suppose the devs thought she'd be cute? I guess she is in a way but it felt like taking care of a special-needs kid.
>>737742195something something, girls cutest when almost retarded.jpg
>>737742000>Shining Force Exa: 8/10 big improvement over neo, better pacing, better dungeons and has one of the sweetest slow-burn romances in RPGsI like the overall improvement but nerfing magic is pretty unfun there. The game is almost cut and paste from Neo if you consider most areas are just renamed.>Casting animation is slower so both Cyrille and Toma can't cast as fast as Max.>Ice Spike count has been reduced from 6 to 2 or 3. Its not useful as before>Blaze Lv.3 is missing from Volcanon Logs. For some reason, this was replaced by a Lv.1 version despite being the best fire spell book. No more nuke fireball.Fuck grinding for Attack+100 weapons though, shit is way too rare to find in Training Grounds.
>>737742723Did you beat the final bonus dungeon in Exa? That bonus Castle dungeon had a fight where you had to fight against like 15 mini-wolves "Duga", and I kept dying there. I know there's only like a couple more fights after that before you reach 100% completion, but I can never win that Duga fight. It's too hard.>nerfing magic is pretty unfunI'll be honest, in my playthrough I never focused on magic and instead put all points into physical attacks.>Attack+100 weaponsYeah I too never bothered with that.
>>737742814Finished the whole Xeyon Castle. The one you're saying is probably the top floor from one of the towers. I beat that easily so long as you have the +18 set of armor and a good effects on your armor like a Guard+25 and HP+100. It will be easier if you have a Darkness Sword with you since most enemies are susceptible to petrification and getting petrified guarantees critical hits. You might have to finish the whole Training Grounds first before you deal with Xeyon Castle.>I'll be honest, in my playthrough I never focused on magic and instead put all points into physical attacks.I did too since on Neo, I made Max a magician and you can start a whole ass Lv.100 grind marathon with it. Cyrille ends up only using Crossbows most of the time because of its knockback bonuses.>Yeah I too never bothered with that.I force myself to get a Darkness Sword with one Attack+100 inside. Too bad I never lucked out getting a 2x Attack+100 inside, but I did got a Metal Pain with 2x Attack+100 inside though. For fun, I maxed it out and the attack rating reaches 90000+.
>>737741608Cool
>>737726294Merchant isn't really a human tho.
>>737725602>>737730904For me it's still Sarah fuck you Sega for killing that upcoming game and every nice franchise you had, fucking bastards
>>737743676>Sega doing "something" with old IPs soon>shining isn't one of the ones they showed offFuck...
>>737743676sarah sucks though.
>>737735104>>737735946Huge SF2 fan here. Somehow couldn't tank SF1. Fortunately I heard there's a remake
>>737743714>said something is garbage gamesReality is often disappointing >>737743743Not true. There's many members that sre worst. She's always useful to me everytime I play. Currently replaying on the hardest.
>>737733343>>737730904>>737725602God I wish more games had centaur girls. If I knew how to make a game I'd make one about travelling with a centaur bodyguard while you cook and help her in combat.
So do centaur breastfeed with their human half or do they have little horse nipples on the underside for foal to suckle?
>>737730904how big is her cock
>>737743914she's objectively the worst and least useful healer of the 4 with the slowest experience rate. she's also the worst looking girl on the force.
>>737741001ew no, dont listen to this faggot
>>737730904She was the hottest character used to fap to her a lot
>>737741001you'd have to be blind or insane to do thisthe content is not worth how absolutely dogshit eye cancer ass it looksnever play this version, they completely botched itsf1 genesis, sf2 genesis, sf cd, that's the only prime sf games. sf3 exists, and its not bad, but its not as good and you also have to adjust to it looking like ass but much more tolerable ass than gbaother good shining games exist too, but they aren't the same genre
>>737741184>What if we take the original art style and.. ahh fuck it, lets just do whatever this is
>>737745354
>>737745273>the content is not worth how absolutely dogshit eye cancer ass it looksit just looks like 2. you must have some sort of head injury
>>737733946>>737734004amon and balbaroy are a couple, who the fuck thinks they are siblings>>737733997characters scale differently, some fall off late, shine early, some suck early and have to be babied into gods later, just how it is.to ensure anyone never falls off super hard you have to delay promotions, every level between 10 and 20 the stats dont matter in sf1 because each level guarantees a bonus to stats upon promotion. there's really no need to do this the games are easy and a bunch of characters have good scaling even if you promote early. but its the way to make a shitty character not so shittyzylo also gets no weapons, which in sf1 is a downside because attack boost doesn't scale off your atk stat its just flat, and non weapon users get more base attack to counter itin sf2 attack boost does scale off base attack, making non weapon users way stronger
>>737735173>because some late game enemies have a hardcoded 50% dodge chance and it's annoying. This is just not true, nothing has anywhere near a 50% dodge chance manFlying units have higher dodges, bosses have higher dodge, but it's not close to 50% it's like 1/8 or somethingMages are busted regardless though
>>737745418>it looks like 2damn, you must be a SPECIAL kind of stupid.
>>737736821>It adds respawning generic encounters that are even more of a slog.Simply don't do them. They only proc on specific tiles, there are only like <5 of them, the proc isn't even guaranteed on the tile, and if you get unlucky and it hits you can just egress man it's not that big of a deal, you aren't forced to fight it>overstays its welcomeFalse as fuckShining force 2 is almost the perfect length, sf1 is far too short. Sf2 only feels like it "overstays its welcome" at the 3rd to last battle, and that's in part because it's a very bad map to play even if its cool thematically. That's pretty fucking well designed to land it feeling like you've had enough at the literal very end of the game, that's what should happen in all games.
>>737744969I run into you in every single Shining thread on 4chan. You've been at this for over 5 years at this point. You are the most dedicated Sarah hater. To be fair, I have no strong opinion on Sarah. I'm neutral to this.
>>737739196Great game, different genre, and not plot relevant at all. The end boss of shining in the darkness is the main villain in shining force 1, that's it.
>>737743714>Sega doing "something" with old IPs soonI'm already disappointed with that they've showed. The whole OLD GOLD whatever the fuck is about elevating old IPs *beyond* gaming, with shit like goods, fashion, etc. etc. Very little mention of games.
>>737745668>doesnt point out sarah lovers that appear in every thread>claims to be neutral, has multiple sarah pictures savedyou fool nobody.
>>737745838>claims to be neutral, has multiple sarah pictures savedI have multiple pics of most characters mate.
>>737745418you are a circus clown
>>737745042look closely man, thats not a girl on a horse. That's a CENTAUR.
>>737746005
>>737746005AAANNNNND?
>>737746005I... don't understand your reservations. That's kind of the point.
>>737745354Personally not a bad game for me but it can put off other players on it like the wimpy MC and its too obvious plot.It has hot girls though, especially on their DLC costumes.
>>737746005All his post means to me is - she's 100% legal to bang at age 4.
>>737746005Did he stutter?
i think Max himself falls off incredibly hard and you're better off promoting him early
