>just memorise a series of inputs because the unfair coin eater demands it
Why are shmups such a joke of a genre? Literal rhythm game tier memorisation and zero gameplay density

There is no game which is dynamic. It's easier to learn a flow chart for a random game than a route for a static game. Introducing randomness just lowers the skill ceiling. You would know this if you weren't weak and feminine, like my father, whom i defeated in 1 on 1 combat at the age of 18 and then took control of his estate.

As a shmup fan, he's kinda right? Why can't we see more dynamically changing enemies for every playthrough for most modern shmup games? Wouldn't that test a real player by adapting to new enemy patterns?

No? There's a upper limit to what's humanly reactable. What happens when I can react to everything? The only way to increase the skill ceiling would be to introduce memorization. Shmups use reactive patterns in conjunction with memorization to attack different parts of the brain. If it was random patterns I'd simple have to memorize all the patterns, if it was random bullet vomit I'd just be doing identical micro for 20 minutes. There are plenty of shmups where shots are aimed, and due to robot precision being impossible there is an element of improvisation. Like if you play the second loop in a psikyo game, there's only so much you can control with revenge bullets, it would be very difficult to make the trajectory absolutely static. It's not so shallow that adding random patterns would be an improvement.

Oh, I see.. If they were dynamic, and it was balanced enough to react it would just be an infinite loop and be too easy.. Extending that past human levels with a static level design makes it more challenging because of the progression of learning and adapting.. Interesting.

Got to 2-6 in sengoku ace today, getting kinda close. This game isn't super demanding but holy fuck is it unforgiving. I will post the replay in a bit, but it's not like anyone cares. The first loop is a no-miss, and the 1-all is super beginner friendly if anyone wants the route.

Sengoku Ace
The critical failure point here is messing up the safe spot in 2-4. Sometimes bullets in this game are random, like 5% of the time it'll just fuck you. I wasn't paying attention and that happened. Recovery is very hard, because you get 1 power up after dying, which is not enough to restore your subshot, which is like 95% if your damage. Regardless, if I had done the tanks in 2-6 correctly I would have still had enough resources to win since the rest of the game is pretty much free, but in practice I bomb that section because it's sketchy so not much chance of that happening. My whole second loop is pretty sloppy, so I need to tighten that up a lot more.
>>
>>737726535
I think PvP requires more skill but it’s not a better kind of skill. Most PvP players could not beat a shmup but the opposite is not true. PvP is for low iq chimps unless you are the best players in the world
>>
>>737726302
it's a shame shmups and fighters are still stuck in the arcade design, I mean it's fine if that's what most players want but I wish there were at least some that adapted the console design philosophy

do you practice with stage selects/save states
do you restart when you fuck up or keep going (despite losing power ups for example)
how long does it usually take you to get a 1CC
how do you deal with the imbalance of getting bored with redoing memorized early stages vs getting destroyed in later stages because less playtime

I start a run, continue it to the end no matter how much I mess up, and I never practice using save states
THE REAL MANS WAY
>>
>>737734448
Sorry I haven't played that in a long time. If shmup wiki is down you can find replays on restart syndrome. Something to keep in mind in that game is that you get a lot of resources and most importantly shields, so you have a lot of room for error. If you don't have a shield and getting all 3 power ups is hard, bomb and use the i-frames to get both a shield and your bomb back. If you have a shield but your bombs aren't full, sometimes it's better to forego risking getting all 3 powerups and just grab a bomb. Look at how players quick kill and lead shots in replays, that should help with popcorn. The game also has a debug menu that lets you practice individual stages. Since the beginning of games is generally easier than the end, sometimes it's best to focus on practicing the later stages, since it takes like 5% as long to polish the early stages. Good luck.
>>
>>737734091
Which game invented the thing with the three power ups in a triangle? Was it Cho Ren Sha? I tried this game not long ago and getting in the center of those is way harder than it looks.
>>
>>737729745
I do but it's too easy. I can't wait for black onion.
>>
>>737734786
I think so, fun risk reward mechanic
even attempting this trick

>>737734736
>get both a shield and your bomb back
if you mess up staying in the triangle then you may lose both
not comfortable attempting this mid stages or will have to practice it

>The Triple Item Grab technique is also used in Graze Counter GM.
>The powerup items seen in Crimzon Clover are a reference to the Cho Ren Sha item triangle.
>>
>>737734786
The tricky bit is that you have to tap down while it's moving, and while you do you i-frames once your successful, you aren't invulnerable when getting it, so you have to set that up too. It's a pretty neat idea.

There's an error in programming that makes the enemies unpredictable at random, so it's unlikely you'll ever see a counterstop/killscreen of this game. I can only find one video on the entire internet of someone looping it. More people speedrun it than score it. So I guess a question to ask is, if the high score is heavily dependent on rng, is it skilled based?

>Performative faggots when you tell them that different game genres require different sets of skills to play proficiently
Rhythm games require a sense of musical rhythm, which is both a natural and acquired skill
It's okay to be really good at one type of game be bad at another
At some point a bunch of retards got it in their heads that reflexes were the only skill that matters. You can have the best reflexes in the world and have no rhythm, no ability to multitask, no capacity for long term planning, poor memory, no capability to handle pressure/frustration, no intuitive problem-solving skills, no ability to read opponents, etc.
>>
DOJ doesn't seem so bad after spending so much time with Radiant Silvergun. Maybe I'm not as familiar with CAVE but it feels like you can improvise/bullshit a little more

>>
>>737739787
Because you started fixating on it.
>>
>>737740130
>If I drop a chain by dying I just reset.
If I drop a chain on the opening stage, I reset. I do my best from the 2nd stage onward and just shrug it off if I drop a chain. I'm an asspie but Silvergun is way too autistic even for me. It's a shame because I love everything else about the game. The weapon button system. The soundtrack. The hyper sword. The boss battles (when you properly chained enough to do real damage). The visuals which imo still hold up. Everything except the fucking EXP system that rewards "almost always kill only red enemies BUT WHEN YOU SEE BLUE+YELLOW, THEN KILL RED-BLUE-YELLOW IN THAT ORDER AND THEN KEEP KILLING YELLOW", it's fucking obnoxious.
>>
>>737739576

They honestly don't unless if we're talking games like Rhythm Heaven where you genuinely can play it blind
>>
>>737726302
Anyone know the bullet hell arcade but it was set in like 1945 but you can call like in a single huge missle that did a shit ton of damage but it was a arcade and had good graphics like metal slug almost but more slightly realistic? Do you think there is merit in something being, you know, a video game, where you can show off cool gameplay of a shmup and it's clear what's happening is cool, whereas with a rhythm game without someone physically showing themselves putting in the inputs outside of the game it just looks retarded? Yeah, it really was strange. Until emulation caught up and the PS2 port was my only way of playing the game, it was annoying having to remap the controls for arrange mode.
