>everyone starts screamingoh
>>737733303They were screaming because they were forced to watch Homeworld 3's cutscenes
>>737733407whoever had the giantess fetish won and everyone else fucking lost.
>>737733303No one talks about this one.
>>737735262honestly i think it deserves a good remaster and god i wish the soundtrack was released to higher quality. also to me it's the real homeworld 2
>>737735454the source code for cataclysm is lost
>>737736886cataclysm is burning :(
Best homeworld game.I don't know how they managed to get the first two games right and then fell down the "prophecy is literal and always correct" hole. Vaygar we're at least still interesting but man 2 was a step down and then 3 was just a launch off a cliff
>>737737232yeah i honestly hate the chosen one prophecy bullshit
>>737733303>Everyone starts screaming>The ship starts screaming>The missiles start screaming>Your ships start screamingThere's not nearly enough horror strategy games
>>737738051Is there really any horror strategy out there aside from this?
>>737738292There's games with horror elements and strategy elements, but horror and strategy are kinda conflicting. Cataclysm isn't really a 'horror' game either, in the same way you wouldn't call any of the XCOM games 'horror' despite involving spookster aliens.
>>737738292Closest thing I can think of is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, but it doesn't really go out of its way to spook you (most of the time, anyway) and it's more horror you have to think about for a bit>>737738520>horror and strategy are kinda conflictingIt'd be hard but I don't think it's impossible, you'd have to get real creative with the whole 'loss of control' aspect that horror's usually based on, or focus on some other aspect instead
>>737733303The paperback manual was kino.>section on the Battlecruiser>ship is explicitly resistant to the Beast meme beam >reason stated: the entire ship is designed to ventilate any infected compartment into the vacuum of space>Somtaaw design philosophy reflects preference towards killing large swaths of a ships crew rather than letting them be turned into organic circuity for the Beast
>>737738520>>737738897cataclysm really did it so well>foreboding soundtrack, atmosphere, background visuals>units actually freaking the fuck out>decent voice acting/cutscenesI'd definitely be interested in seeing a blend of the two again but maybe not in the scifi space setting, although i think part of the effectiveness is because its set in space. maybe an underwater rts game with horror elements would be cool idk.
>>737739532Maybe myth? Honestly there's just few RTS games where you're ALWAYS on the back foot and losing people. Cataclysm and myth 1 are the only ones I can think of
>>737739656Shadow of the Horned Rat. Warhammer game where ever entering into melee with anyone ever was a bad idea.
>>737739656oh damn i've never played that game, i'll give it a look thanks.>>737739120yeah that one is great its like getting vaporized instantly beats becoming part of the beast, fuck it. the somtaaw are great, just adapting constantly and really making the best of a dogshit everything. i think my favorite unit lore bit has to be the mimic.>wake up from cryo>find out all your loved ones died on kharak>become suicide bomber pilot man i love game manuals.
>>737739120I miss manuals.
>>737738520I'd say it's pretty horrifying watching a Chryssalid round the corner and bite the guy carrying an armed HE in the middle of your squad.
>>737737232the first half of 2 is cool at least. also deserts of kharak was decent
>>737733407>throws entire fleets at you and even blows up entire planets to try and stop you from finding Karan S'jet>afterwards it is revealed that she actually wanted you to find Karan the whole time>at the end the game tries to make you go "awww poor baby she was just misunderstood and lonely :(" despite the fact that she's killed billions of people on her quest to become god or whateverWhat the actual flying fuck was going on in the writer's room for that game? It's almost unbelievable that the same studio made Deserts of Kharak.
>>737743684Whenever you see this kind of shit you've just got to assume that it's due to some kind of nepotism. Where they decided that having the executive producer's son write the entire game was a fine idea instead of getting qualified professionals. Not that I know. Maybe the writing team was just meth'd up.
Ummm, actually, it's called EMERGENCE, CHUD
>>737743684>>737743770it's so fucking funny there's like 20 different ppl credited to the writing and the original homeworld writer put in a note about how he was forced to give a face to the protagonists iirc
>>737735262Which is unfortunate, considering it's the best Homeworld game.
>>737736886If the source code is lost what is that that emergence version on gog?
lol
Kinda amazing how one game can kill a beloved franchise for good. The power of strong powerful womins.
>>737744892When I read her story I always feel that Sonic Special Forces School must be on her resume.
>>737736886Gearbox developers have previously stated they don't actually need the source code. They can rebuild the game on a modern HW engine instead. And as long as they can extract the existing ship assets they have enough of a base template to work off of to create remastered high fidelity assets.>>737744762Gog uses the old executable which was hotpatched to fix a few things, using interception/redirection.
>>737733646I have a giantess fetish and I was not at all interested in some ugly mutt.
>>737733303>played HW2 first and loved it>try to play 1 and Cata>cannot into the controls>remaster of 1 is dogshitA cursed life
>>737745745If Dawn of War can somehow come back after the complete and utter full-spectrum disaster that was DoW III then never say never.
>>737743146Playing this for the first time was something
>>737744402>this is the mining ship Kuun-Lan>this is the mining ship Kuun-Lan>this is the mining ship Kuun-Lan>...>this is the war ship Kuun-LanLESSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>737733303Kind of surprised the whole 'horror rts in space' concept actually worked. I always got sent into a frightened panic whenever the beast showed up.
