In DS2 I would want to try a hex build to finally see what all the hype was about 12 years ago, but for Elden Ring Im not sure what to play. My first and favorite style is pure int with the moonlight greatsword and my second was a paladin build, any fun build I could try for a 3rd? For ER go full faith and use nothing but dragon breaths. Crotch Rot dragonbreath got nerfed a while back but its still king. It hits like a freight train, scarlet rots people and looks really cool.
Its hard to manage at first but once you get used to it you can bounce your breath around corners and clear rooms. Timing is everything. I beat the base game & expansion with my dragon incants and haven't had that much fun before or since. Bosses fall before your rotten assmouth so quickly you'll laugh like a maniac as they melt into bubbling piles of shit.

1. Most zoomies playing it in the modern era are playing SotFS, which has a few areas that are fucked up cuz the devs decided to remix the area into a fucking kaizo romhack with bullshit enemy placements.
2. It's also the "easiest" by virtue of being the only Souls game with despawning enemies. So even if you suck ass, you can throw yourself at an area enough times and eventually it'll just have no enemies at all. The reverse is true, where if you don't know about despawning enemies than the first impression is that the game is fucked up with how many gank squad ambushes it throws at you.

I don't even like DS2, but for some reason it feels like the last souls game with "real" levels. Not in the sense that they're realistic, but more like "this is an actual video game level instead of just the shit we put in the way of the boss". It's even dumber than that. It was founded upon the absolutely genius idea: dark souls should be dark. The whole game was modeled after being tomb of the giants but everywhere. They wanted you to always have a torch in your off hand. 80% of the way through dev cooler heads prevailed and told tanimura his game played like absolute ass this way, but there was no time to fix the direction fully. That's why it looks so weird, they just turned up the global lighting everywhere and all the ugliness obscured by dark fog of war was revealed. They kept a few locales true to the vision like the undead crypt and no man's wharf to an extent.

Dark souls 2 was the majora's mask attempt. An overly ambitious game with an absurd deadline caused by executive demands. The dark souls 2 slop outcome is the far more likely scenario than the miracle that was MM.

They can aggro and deal homing full ranged damage from so far away that they render as 3fps jpegs. It does bonkers physical dmg and you can stunlock humans by bouncing it off the walls in buildings and hallways. Long range casters. Patching reduced the range, but release version ones would start blasting as soon as they were in render distance. Each area in DaS2 is basically a puzzle game, and the solution to Amana was bows, but most players are retards brute forcing the game with their specific and highly specialised builds. The Shrine of Amana is good and the Iron Passage's main issues were bad gate hitboxes, but the Frigid Outskirts really did stink. There was basically nothing to find at all and you'd get ganked by reworks of the Sanctuary Guardian every 15 seconds or so. Moving even a little bit while fighting one would likely make another appear, up to three at a time, and they blatantly just appeared from the snowstorm itself without the decency to have a summoning animation for that. If you bothered to try keeping your eyes peeled during the breaks between each snowstorm, you still wouldn't find any hidden reindeer horse things to avoid because they just teleport in. You also had to run for nearly three minutes to the fog gate, where the boss was a duo that was a rework of another boss introduced in the same DLC.

Don't listen to the rollslopping retards. Run left/right to avoid the homing shots to keep torch alight, and selectively put away your torch to prevent the underwater creatures from swarming you at select spots. They have a fuckhuge aggro radius when you have light out (the reason why fireflies collect above them, they follow the light).

On an aside, it's always funny reading people fellating original ds2 Amana when the sorceress' all had 4x aggro and firing range, as well as NO SOUND CUE for the homing shots until they were 5 feet away. Scholar did this area so much better even with the extra mobs. The original game was empty as fuck (everywhere except Iron Keep actually).

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that the original beta of the mod without path tracing looked better than the path tracing version.

Dark Souls 2 is not a good-looking game, but there's at least creative intent behind how bad it looks. FromSoft's art direction is still good, it's just that it's been butchered by Dark Souls 2's technical limitations. The path tracing version just obliterates that creative intent, it doesn't even look like the same game. Heide looks like Earthen Peak. It looks like green-grey, poisonous sludge.
