They just don't make JRPG like this anymore, man....Despite its old graphic, the camera works and overall direction make it looks way more impressive than anything on the market currently.
>>737736346early xbox 360 had some really good jrpgs. This, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Enchanted Arms etc.
>>737736346It can hit high on the kino.
>>737736420yeah, when MS was still trying.that was a short period when a xbox was better than a playstation
There's way too much reading for modern gamers.
>>737736346Cinematography is a lost art. Even actual movies have none of it now. And with the rise of llm ai slop that learns it's direction from fucking tiktok making remakes like the new ass creed 4, forget being lost, good cinematography is being overwritten out of existence.
>>737736420Funny these are better than all modern JRPG slop released in the past 15 years.Yet we see normies regurgitating left and right that "we're eating good" or that "we're living in the golden age of jrpgs".Almost makes me wish for JRPGs to go extinct.
>>737736346Im on disc three and im still waiting for a moment thatll knock my socks off. Maybe i got the game hyped too much in my head. The sob stories were very hit or miss
>>737736420>Tales of Vesperia
>>737736936/v/ will argue that Cinematography has no place in vidya but, in my opinion, it can enhance the game a lot if done right.Yakuza games for example, even during the pure gameplay moment, in combat, when the new enemies show up or during your heat move, the camera work gave the combat more "oofm" and made it more fun.Not to mention a genre like JRPG where you spend most of your time watching the animation plays out, good cinematography goes a long way.
>>737737382The real interesting stuff in gaming is the creation of emergent cinematography. How do you craft an image or a frame when you don't know where the camera will be or how it will move? The best are using elements of human psychology to figure out where people will be looking and crafting and environment that leads to a player sort of developing their own. Cyberpunk 2077 does a fair amount of this.
>>737737160It's mainly the stories, the main story itself is just whatever. It hits its peak when you do the funeral.
Lost Odyssey was aggressively mediocre. The best about it came from the short stories. It's a chill game.
>>737736346I love JRPGs and oh boy this game is a fucking SNOOZE fest. Most generic story imaginable despite them advertising the fuck out of the guy who wrote it
>>737736346>They just don't make JRPG like this anymoreE33 came out like a year ago
>>737740554>E33>cinematographykek. You can praise its gameplay, specifically the skill building system, not the parry slop. But everything else in that game is just drug induced psychedelia that may as well be AI slop.
>>737740724Parry slop is the only thing I actually dislike in the game. It has no place in a turn based rpg. I refuse to support such retarded ideas.
>>737740554>E33 came out like a year agoAnd the story is broken shit, as well as half of the characters
>>737736346Yeah. Makes me sad it had to die on the 360 of all things.
>>737742971Pcfag? Disc works on 360, Bone and Series. Available digitally on Bone Series. Its currently most accessible its ever been. I recall reading its emulatable as well
I've long been of the opinion that Lost Odyssey was the last true "old" game in the sense that it was made with the same mentality and enthusiasm that created all the classic gen 4 and 5 JRPGs, it has more in common with Grandia, Lufia, Suikoden, Lunar etc than FF13 and its contemporaries or games that came after it And it's not even nostalgia, this is something I felt about it on release, it immediately evoked that classic vibe in me that was notably diminishing at the time, to me game history is divided into pre Lost Odyssey and post Lost Odyssey because no one managed to make something like it again, and we're still in that mass appeal era that started after 2007
>>737736420How was IU?? It seems like it got a pretty mixed review
>>737736346>Unreal Engine No thanks.
>>737740554loooooooolE33 is garbage compared to old JRPGs. fucking zoomer and their retarded opinions, I swear
>>737745319E33 literally rapes lost odyssey in every imaginable way, but i doubt youve played either since youre clearly a retarded poser
>>737736346It's a great looking game but I'm not the biggest fan of it. Exploration sucks dick and encounter rate is very tedious in some areas, especially that one late game temple with the floating stone blocks you have to move around. I also wish the ring system hadn't been irrelevant for half of the cast. >>737742971It's playable from start to finish on Xenia these days. Minor graphical glitches here and there but nothing that ruins the game.
I almost got filtered in LO because the first boss in the game is easily the most difficult. I say the only hard encounter in the entire game. It's one of those combat systems that really needs a full party to flourish.
>>737743814And then you tried Final Fantasy XIII and realized every engine was pretty much a different smell of UE.
>>737736346Too bad it's woke. There's literal stories in the game about a town experiencing ethnic replacement and how the MC of the game found diversity beautiful. Very subversive shit.
>>737736346>mfw Hanna's Departure
>>737743564I get your point, however both Blue Dragon and later Fantasian also were 'old' games in similar vein
>>737736346They don't, I stopped playing jrpgs since they always feature teenagers saving the world from the evil empire
>>737748171I finished 95% of the game before I realised you can unlock slots for immortals with slot seeds. I admit I also had trouble with that first boss.
>>737736346true and based, jarpigs have been dogshit since SE took over
>>737736346Recomp when?
>>737738221yeah that hit hard for a charactwr you didnt really know. i was connected with the male mc emotionally without realizing. he had a hard life..
also cookie sex?
>>737752491That's true but to me they felt too nostalgic, like they're throwbacks from a new age rather than just fruits of the same old tree
Lost Odyssey was shit though. The only reason anyone still even remembers this game is because Xbots had to forced themselves into pretending it was good when it came out. The only good part about the game were the novel parts which had nothing to do with the game story anyway.
