Are we so mind-broken by nostalgia and fanboyism that we are going to shield utter garbage?
I've seen so many defenses of pic rel and (recently) Gen 1 Pokémon that it's unreal.

Caught you. Red and Blue sold millions of copies for a reason.

>Red and Blue sold millions of copies for a reason.
It was the first who had only original monster designs, what I mean by that is there's no recolor of an already existing monster. That and the novelty that was trading with only $1 cable. That's how it got huge in the first place, it wasn't the first of it's kind to do "innovative" things such as having 100 monsters or setting in a urban region. But the idea by itself was refreshing and some of it's novelties like I mentioned were new at the time. Of course the honeymoon phase was over and everybody who played the games; even some genwunner would agree that it's hold back by sticks and band-aids.

we are so far removed in time from Sonic 06 that the only people still talking about it are those that played the fan remaster which removes the most egregious problems (the horrendously frequent and long load times, the shit open world, and the terrible story).

Is P-06 finished? Does it has the final chapter now?

Ecelebs.
People these days are sheep and if their favorite youtuber spouts an opinion they'll lap it up unconditionally, but when actually asked to go and replay sonic 06 because it's "so great" they'll always answer with: "No."

We're still at Final Chapter plus bosses SOON.
Project Reignition will probably be finished first.

It's more that the industry has collectively shit it's pants to the degree that 06's biggest fuck ups are now stock-standard fare on release. In many cases, the release version is worse but no one would dare say so because it would show AAA has sunk so far that even the "worst Sonic game of all time" is less broken.
Also if you REALLY want to be mean you can also pinpoint where Sonic 06 is influencing modern AAA but again, no AAAfags are ready to accept that kind of discussion yet because admitting their beloved big name studios are inspired by Sonic Team, let alone Sonic Team's biggest fuck up would harm their pride for eternity.

The kids that grew up with that game are blinded by nostalgia now, yeah. A handful of retarded Sonictubers have also emboldened them to spew their shit takes everywhere, too, which is sad to see, but not surprising.

Anyway, in general, Sonicfags are quick to defend Sonic games because of the potential they may have. And it's not hard to see why, when you think about it. When you're a huge fan of something, you tend to see things for what they could be and not for what they are. And more often than not, that overrides the reality of the situation, and skews your perception of something to the point where you can excuse its glaring flaws because of how it COULD be good if only they did X, Y, or Z instead of A, B, or C. It doesn't help that a LOT of 3D Sonic's problems appear to be fixable with minor alterations or simply more playtesting. Or creating new problems in areas that didn't have any in previous titles. '06 is a hotbed for this sort of thing.

On some level, I empathize with '06 defenders, because the game was clearly done dirty by horrible management and incompetency, and this happens quite frequently to Sonic games. But that doesn't change what the game actually is, at the end of the day.

gen1 pokemon, for all its flaws, is actually pretty tightly designed, from the curve to the variety of mons, to the openness. gsc was actually a downgrade in many areas, especially encounter design, story and the level curve.

What's funny no one gave a shit about Sonic 06 unless some lets play showed how utter dogshit it was. Everyone thought it was another mediocre Sonic game Sega has been spewing out since Sonic 3 and Knuckles. No one knew about a game where Sonic saves a Final Fantasy princess until the villain stabs him in the back only to be saved by the 7 dragonballs and a kiss from the princess.

GSC was rushed. The leaks have shown that it was in a development hell and it shows in the final product. (Prof.Oak Intro being a leftover from the beta)

In 2006 it was shocking that a game could be released in such a poor state and be rushed to hell.

In 2026 it's business as usual.
>>
>>737749496
Even before e-celebs pick it up, the game already got it's infamous reputation thanks to it's insane bugs.
>>
>>737749325
>tightly designed
You can beat the whole game by just using one Pokemon, any mon, nevermind the HM slaves which you are required to have one to progress. It's all thanks to the level curve being a complete joke if you already know it's basic mechanics.

>the variety of mons
Very limited thanks to version distribution and shit like trading pokemon to evolve. In any playthough, you're very likely to use mememons like Nidoking or any starter pokemon than the rest of the Pokedex. Didn't helped that some mons are really terrible like Onix.

>to the openness
Again, it's limited thanks to the use of HMs. Some of the routes are just glorified walking hallways.

>>737743574
It was inevitable honestly. We gave millenials and Gen Z too much power. Picrel is the precursor to modern games but its old so its good
>>
I still can't believe that there's a sizable amount of people who would rank any Sonic games as worse than '06

Sonic Boom is the only game that deserves to be ranked lower than 06. It's just as glitchy and broken but it's also incredibly boring. You can't laugh at how dumb it is. Thank god it died with the Wii U though. Not even Sonic fans wants to make a recompilation for that shit. When your shit stinks so bad that not even the dung beetles want anything to do with it that's bad.

>>737743574
It's literally zoomers being nostalgic for dogshit they played when they were 5. I see a lot of wii Nickelodeon shovelware apologism now too as some "Le hidden gem"

To the devil's advocate here, the tv show was decent.
>>
>>737743574
All games these days are made from the same streamlined, polished shit, that you wouldn't understand why actual, honest-to-god jank is so much better.

They're not saying Sonic '06 is good, they're saying it's BETTER than modern diarrhea.
>>
>>737756364
The game and show are barely related besides having the same cast so theres no shame in admitting the show wasn't that bad.

everyone on this board is retarded or lying if you havent noticed
