This image perfectly demonstrates that no matter how much modern tech and higher res assets you throw at a game, it cant compete with beautifully hand crafted scenes, build on top of older approximation techniques.
>>
I wish all of DS2 was as good as the best bits of it.

yes, as we all know dark souls 2 is known for its detailed handcrafted areas and intricate art design

I don't get the kind of lighting on the far right that essentially just makes the entire structure black or why so many games are doing that now

I love Ds2 thoughbeit, its a cult classic kinda weird
>>
>>737746591
how did they manage to make DS2 even uglier
>>
>>737746971
See, it's that kind of creativity you'd seldom find anywhere else but From Soft. Bravo.
>>
>>737747958
Even if it was like, the volcano is off in the distance and something picks you up and drops you off, that would make more sense. What were they smoking?
>>
>>737746591
The game still feels like theres some constant overhead florescent lights always on. Its so ugly

Lighting Engine is so fucking ugly and its a shame that if DS2 ever got a real remake the indians it'll get outsourced to will probably use it for inspiration

There's no need to use someone's shitty presets when you have all the tools available in the mod to make your own atmosphere
>>
Is there any explanation for iron keeps placement at all? Eas the elevator supposed to go down?

Lighting Engine has to work with DS2's low quality assets and non-PBR materials, that's why its benefits are largely lost in most scenes, both of these issues can be remedied by someone dedicated enough

My guess is the elevator was supposed to go up to the top of the tower where the player gets a nice vantage point, meets an NPC and sees the keep off in the distance. The NPC then opens a way through god knows where (maybe precut gutter) to the iron keep. OR the mountains you can see in the stink valley skybox were supposed to be a LOT closer and the devs just totally forgot about it. Dark Souls 2 was basically a bunch of areas thrown together with little rhyme or reason because the b team just felt like doing whatever they wanted. "A shit ton of important stuff was cut but never fully removed" - the game.

Only eternal newfags who played it as their first game in the series like it
>>

Played it last due to getting memed to skip it. Turned out it was the best souls game for me.

>scholar of the second sin
Ok, so we all know that the first sin was the initial kindling of the fire by Lord Gwyn and blah blah blah... I'll assume that the second sin refers to the complete butchering of the original's art style?
>>
>>737750259
Well, games are autist magnets, you're gonna have these conversations pop up every now and then.
>>
I will not replay trash
>>
>>737750403
You're half right, I think. The first sin was the binding of man to fragile mortal husks via the linking of the flame, and subsequently the repeated rekindling of the first flame, thereby defying the natural order of progression. Humans cannot inherit the world bound to the flame, as they are darkness and inhabit fleeting forms, and the flame being linked is just a product of Gwyn's hubris thinking he could extend the age of fire indefinitely. Though, they are inexorably connected.

Strange, all I see when I look at that image is a reminder of how much effort goes into undoing the damage console limitations have done to videogames over the last decade or so.
>>
>>737748074
Maybe the levels were made completely separately with no communication between their designers or intention of being connected to each other or anything else for that matter. Then somebody, probably a programmer who doesn't give a single shit about level design, realized that they need to actually make a game and made quit edits to connect everything but didn't have enough time to to make sure anything connects logically.

The intro has the MC loosing their marbles and entering a mirror world by jumping into a lake.
It's classic pre millenium horror/fantasy stuff, no wonder the zoomies don't get it.

I'm fucking tired of this image, It's not like that in the game, not by a mile.
And even if the mountain was like that in the game, the player shouldn't be able to see the top of the mountain for it to not have a single red reflected in the clouds of polution.
