I remember playing on hard which made you type the answers to questions manually and not with a list of dialogue choicesthe game was localized but wouldn't recognize my language specific characters so I got stuck at some pointalso it was fucking garbage
>>737746892that's because she's really obscure
>>737746676Well if I gave it to you, it wouldn't be obscure anymore, so I won't.

11/10 story0/10 gameplay
>>737747464so chomper guy has something to chomp on retard
>>737747728Damn I should pick this back up, never finished it>0/10 gameplaykek it reminded me of Divine Divinity>melee character struggles and has to smartly outplay enemies>mage character just spams spells and kills everything before it can reach him
>mobile game>it's actually pretty good
>obscure prequel to an obscure sequel to an obscure slavjank gameI think only Konung 1 was released translated, you have to know slavrunes to play the rest of the series. Surprisingly decent game if janky.
the game is meh, but the setting is interesting, you start in renaissance age Barcelona +magick shit, meet Leonardo da Vinci and other historical figuresand it uses Fallout's SPECIAL stat systemgive it a try, but don't expect much
>>737747801is it a port from the steam version or other way around?
>>737747801maybe im a brainlet but the game starts out strong and filled with content but after level 10 it slows down bad
>>737747728Why yes, I too love carrying a bag with 9999 healing pots along with a dead body, how could you tell?I wish combat wasn't absolute dogshit. Inquisitor is just begging for some fan overhaul.
>>737747817I just checked GOG and Konung 2 and 3 were translated to English
>>737747764It is a genuinely painful game to play. I literally had to use the Cheat Engine to mod unique drops (which have COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED STATS for fuck's sake) so that progression would at least feel *somewhat* reasonable. And even then, you get shit like massive dungeons with 4+ floors where all you're doing is basically spamming spells to get from point A to point B. Christ alive. If no one else does it, someday I may make an attempt to mod the gameplay so it's at least passable, because the story is unbelievably awesome and it's a crying shame that you have to play such a bad game to experience it.
>>737746676Eschalon: Book I is a pretty good game. played book 2?
Quite possibly the worst game I ever paid money for.
>>737747834No fucking idea. I only played the mobile version, and I enjoyed it 500x more than I ever dreamed I would. >>737747860Honestly, I wish there was more of it. Can't vouch for if/when the game starts to feel dull, but I really loved it.
>>737747615Svarog dream
>>737747817Slavjank is truly an acquired taste. I can't believe how much I've grown to enjoy some of the games these poor bastards put out. Their passion for gamedev and lack of budget is as endearing as it is based.
>>737747935The thing besides the gameplay that sticks most in my mind is the absolute walls of text.Like I remember in the first town, every single villager tells you about the Orc attack in at least 3 paragraphs each, that are all slightly different but say the same thing
>>737746902This was the second ever video game I played on the Super Nintendo. No joke. I go from Super Mario World to Drakkhen. I think it was because of the $10 sticker on the box and my parents are cheap.
>>737746676Rented this once back in the day, really bland and ugly. No wonder it's basically forgotten now.https://www.honestgamers.com/4584/genesis/traysia/review.htmlhttps://www.sega-16.com/2014/12/traysia/
>>737747017>also it was fucking garbageAwDefinitely the kinda game I would play based on the cover art alone
>>737747820Gameplay was great. So is story.
>>737748194Lol yeah, that also takes a bit of getting used to. But the writing is extremely amusing so the walls of text became something I looked forward to. Seeing several different people give a similar account of things was also something I thought was more interesting than it was annoying or boring. Not even sure why, really. Made the townsfolk feel more real than in JRPGs for example where 99% of the people you interact with says something that feels useless at best.
>>737748023I got it during a recent sale so I'm looking forward to giving it a go
>>737747447That's an RPG?
Easily the best Mac-exclusive RPG made. Last I heard the guy that owns the rights is dead set against anyone making a remake which is a real shame.
>>737746676nothing like laughing at your corp mate for drinking too much soda and pissing themselves, good times
>>737748342Same artist did the cover art for a slightly more famous game...
>>737746815This name is worse then Kingdom Hearts
>>737748491Is it still dead? Allegedly somebody had gotten ahold of an old database dump and was going to do something with it but that was years ago.
>>737746902had this game as a kid and it fucked me. I came back as an adult to beat it .It felt amazing. Love Drakken
>>737748491
>>737748137First I've heard of this but it looks a lot like a game I played called Realmz.
I finally got around to playing Nox and I'm loving it so far. This game would been my jam back in the day shame I waited so long to play it
>>737748815I miss Westwood so damn much
>>737748815The gameplay is like Diablo if it was more of a cRPG, right?
>>737748748It was in the same sort of Ultima IV-esqe school as Realmz and Exile. Not nearly as good as either of those tho.
>>737748863Nah its closer to arpg plays pretty much exactly like diablo. I just love the story being a 90s gamer kid getting isekaid into a goofy fantasy world
>>737748612there was infernomoo that was a pvp focused shard but that might be dead now and there was also samsaramoo that was basically where all the hellmoo carebears went and it's supposed to be a pve server but i can only assume most of them just idle and/or erp since i recognise names>>737748739what am i looking at here
>>737747492It took me until this game to wonder why the fuck the main character wasn't talking at all.
I have never heard a single person talk about Spells of Gold.
Avernum, outside of a few scant mentions in CRPG threads this game and other Spiderweb games aren't talked about.
>>737746676Helherron. I don't even know if it runs on modern PCs anymore.
>>737747492Hey, I just redownloaded this game to play it last month. It's not bad but it's so hard to go back to its style of camera.
>>737747728After some time of dungeon delving, I said to myself the story couldn't possibly be worth the combat, and quit.
>>737746676What game is this?
>>737746883Is Darklands any good? I didn't think it was that obscure, at least not on the same tier as OP
>>737746815You faggots have had 1000 threads talking about this game. Allow us obscure RPG enjoyers to talk about rare games and not normie weeb JRPG slop
>>737747474>That portrait
>>737751173It's incredibly overambitious. It's still fun but playing it you can clearly see the gaps where they clearly had meant for there to be more but ran out of space and time.
>>737748994as a kid, i thought it was the game version of army of darkness
>>737747801oh I remember this one. Not bad for mobile game
Would Stonekeep count as obscure? If it happens to pop up in DRPG threads maybe a few anons look back on it fondly but it’s definitely not something well known enough to get its own thread with any engagement. Anyway, I really like Stonekeep guys.
>>737747817Is this worth playing?
>>737747492It was already dated on launch but it's really charming.
>>737746815when they make clair obscur 2 so many normalfags will have no idea it's expedition 34 unless they name it that way
>>737746676Eschalon has the most painful walking speed ever.
I found this one to be a flawed but actually way ahead of it's time. It's really worth checking out if you're looking for oddity RPGs.
>>737747801The dev of this game is using the mobile phone game money to make a real dungeon crawler. Release ETA is this year. I've played the Early Access and so far it's really good. Game is called Archaelund.
Does any of these have online coop?
>>737751428>incomprehensible spellcasting system>incomprehensible combat mechanics>incomprehensible inventory>incomprehensible storyThey don't make 'em like they used to
I would highly recommend Infra Arcana. It's my all time favorite rougelike. It's insanely underrated
>>737751428>>737751635Never heard of that one before but at a glance you can tell it's a British Amiga game of a certain era.
>>737746902This is also the first RPG on the SNES.Yes, even before that.
>>737751665What's so good about it?
for me it's Rage of Mages, second game was a proper pain in the ass
>>737751769Depends on how loose your definition of RPG is. ActRaiser gets classified as an action RPG sometimes.
>>737751965I remember those games. Later missions in general were pain in the ass.>"Oh, you didn't know enemy mages were there? Here's 5 fireballs from offscreen, enjoy your instant game over when your main dude dies"
>>737751102Perfectly understandable. They really shit the bed with the gameplay. You’d think they could’ve at least found one person to actually play the game during the game 10 years it took them to finish it.
>>737751806It's freehttps://sites.google.com/site/infraarcana/homeit's pretty hardcore and I think it's survival elements are tough and not to many games make me feel like I'm surviving on just the edge of my seat like this game does. It had ton of great interactive mechanics too. There some great moments you have in this game as long as you think and use your head. Also there's tons of different playstyles too. It's got a great mood and atmosphere to it too. I just think it's just a great game that doesn't get enough attention
>>737751404(me)Forgot to ask if anyone played the Wii follow up “Bones of the Ancestors” and knew if it was worth it?
>>737752337Thanks, anon, seems cool, I'll check it out.
>>737751806It's also set in the 1920s. It's mostly a horrorgame. It's actually got a pretty unique setting for a roguelike where it isn't generic fantasy medieval land #382233

>>737749592Geneforge > Avernum > everything else > AvadonThe guy's formula for making games work well, even if the stories and gameplay are actually kind of retarded, it all comes together just right

>>737752719I really didn't like that it was just episodic turnbased combat encounters. But I do remember it having some neat moments
Maybe I’ll finish this one someday
>>737753430you think so? i think it fits perfectly for a $5 2013 mobile game ported to steam
I bought a game recently and it turns out it's fucking lost media basically, no info on the title, no screenshots or footage on the internet. It's also absolutely hilarious while trying to be totally serious, like the room of video games.
>>737753772>you think so?Yes.Never make a logo like that one.
>>737753812Well then.Drop a name. Take some screenshots.Ya dork.
>>737753816>ugh muh UX muh accessibility
>>737753858
>>737753479The games are all basic/repetitive, that's just part of the formula, I think. But each has their own very distinct setting and way it's played; Geneforge have play one dude, shaping up summons / you traverse a huge grid of connected maps (openworld) - Avadon gives you a player character and a roster of companions (full party of 3) in a very linear story / world map is a bit like Baldur's Gate - Avernum is a party (of 4) based open world rpg / your party walks around on the world map, and can enter towns and locations which are the usual kind of spiderweb maps.Nethergate is an awesome setting, but it's also one of the oldest and hardest to play now
>>737747792Shadowrun
>>737753885*I haven't played Queen's Wish yet, so I don't know about that
It was very unique, but also a giant piece of shit. Fuck this game, I love it.

Don't even get me started on the gameplay because it's even worse.
>>737754812Would it be Asperta? I only know if it because of the speedrun race some people did on april fools. Also I had to crop this screencap from a long play because there are zero fucking screenshots of it on every image search I tried.

>>737756317wow, that might actually be it, the color palette and style roughly fit what i remember. all i remember about it was it was a game my brother found a demo version of somewhere and then we ordered the full version that i think came on a floppy disc in the mail. would've been some time in like 1996-98
>>737756317holy fuck, yes thank you anon that's it. i looked into the longplay and this is absolutely what i played. I only even remember the game because my brother used the name Reth Eldirood as a character in a D&D campaign later
>>737751635>>737751428>>737752691You forgot the weirdest part of Perihelion: there's only like 15-16 fights in the whole game. All combats are scripted and non-respawning and there's very few of them. What a weird game.

Hey since this is the thread where we talk about old rpgs-- there was a Japanese rpg I saw a few years back and really wanted to play but I lost the computer where I had it book marked It was a Japanese rpg kinda like the Zelda CDI games, where a really aesthetic 2d cutscene animation would play in between gameplay The main character was like an elf wizard or something? The art of the animated cutscenes looked really fucking cool, insanely high quality but I don't think there was an English translation at the time i looked into the game at least I wanted to use some of the art as inspiration for a dnd campaign
>>737746676It got stuck in my memory solely because that was the first time I found a game with "mark your own recall teleport point" mechanic and that blue my 8yo mind back then.Don't think I got much further that the second dungeon before moving to something else, was in one of those "400 games" CD.
Drakensang, played it an eternity ago and never seen it mentioned, I remember it being barebones but decent

What i do remember is that you could tip a bard girl in the main hub village to sing the game ost for you and one of the spells was a stargate gate that teleports you back to the hub. I wish i could remember it's name.

>>737769017You can get Darkstone on PC at GOG for like 6 bucks right now (like 1-2 during sale seasons)

I've never seen anyone, ever, mention The Holy Sword: The Ring, which is this insane Taiwanese Final Fantasy Tactics clone for the PC. Absolute shit game with a horrible translation, no music and horrid graphics. It looks so much worse in action. It is one of the worst games I've ever played.

>>737769628My immediate first thought upon seeing that screenshot is Murloc RPG

I barely remember some turn-based tactical RPG that I played at a friend's house. I don't even remember whether it was on PS1/2 or PC (it was around 1999-2001 at that point). It had isometric perspective but 2D sprites weren't your usual FFT or Tactics Ogre, they had real human proportions. I tried searching for it several times but even the most obscure abandonware sites couldn't help me. At this point I'm starting to think I hallucinated it or something.

>>737752271>evil islandsI used to be obsessed with crafting system in this game when I was a kid.I would craft all possible material x blueprint combinations because each had its own unique description, models and textures and I wanted to see them all. Especially stuff where you could mix blueprints and materials from different islands, like tiger armor from 1st island with snow tiger fur from 2nd island.I don't think any other game rewards you for hoarding low level junk through out the whole game like that.I still hate diamond gear because it looks retarded and diamond cannot be used for any blueprint from previous levels.

>>737770354I remember buying several minor and major versions 20ish years ago. Before finally buying a "lifetime" license once it got on Steam. I was too dumb to ever learn how to play this properly, it was like 1991 Jagged Alliance 2
>>737770249the things I remember were>over the top violence where every enemy had fatalities like the main character breaking the arms of monks or cutting the head off orcs>random fourth wall breaking moments like when two orcs hear your character's footsteps and decide to not blindly run towards you because they're smarter than "those morons in Tristram">a fucking retarded leveling system where you decided what stats to increase BEFORE leveling up>the multiplayer characters appearing in the main game, only to say "sorry, can't help you right now...">a shitty "no refunds, LOL" ending

Amulets & ArmorDoom but medieval fantasy RPG.
Not really obscure, but noone talks about this shit. Very unbalanced game with pretty funny graphics for the highest tier spells in retrospect.

>>737747820First city is pretty good but weighted down by a lot of bugs and crappy combat, afterwards the game falls off a cliff in every aspect.
>>737771572I've definitely seen a video about UnReal World somewhere but I don't remember from whom, that's how I've heard about this game.
This thread make me look at my old PS1 and PS2 collection. I found Brigandine, Vanguard Bandits, and MS Saga. Never played any of them, which to start first? I also found a PC copy of Soulbringer, no idea where that came from.

there was an RPG from an isometric perspective and the cover kinda looks like it has venom from spiderman on it. I have never been able to find it. I played it when I was a kid so like 24 years ago probably.

>>737777150I remember this one. Was the gameplay actually good or is it only known for the protag's big tits?
what was that Gothic clone where you played as a lady? Your village burns down in the prologue and you end up in a city
>>737777652It was basically diablo 2 i think. Perhaps a bit slower.
>>737777849Venetica?
>>737770764Didn't the dev plan to remaster it at some point?

Has anyone heard of Wandering Knights? I played this game a lot back when I was just out of uni and mostly broke. Too bad its save system was a bloated mess and eventually caused the game to crash on load, because the game seemed to append the whole save file to the previous file instead of overwriting it, which required a lot of hex editing to get rid of the duplicated data.Link for anyone interested: https://archive.org/details/Wandering_Knights
>>737751217Humorless autist.
>>737760982Agreed.>>737746815Most obscure game ver.
>>737766617I bought this solely to support the devs for the UI design and art style. I'm so sick of interfaces that are so "clean", they look sterile and boring. It's also not your run of the mill dnd crpg clone, but has some interesting systems going for it.
>>737773263From the moment I first laid my eyes upon clay elf puppets I instantly thought it's the coolest shit ever. One of the better artstyles I've seen in a video game.
>>737746676Thinking about it for a moment, I actually realize I haven't played through any super obscure rpgs that I can remember unless you count random ass rpgmaker japanese eroges. The worst I can think of right now are anachronox and SaGa 1 and I'd call neither truly obscure.
>>737746676I thought you'd never ask...
>>737780001Apparently their previous titles were dogshit, so I'm glad they nailed this one. Really hoping this one is the trend setter for their future projects.
>>737746902I rented this in like 1995 and 6 year old me could not for the life of me figure out what to do. I'd bump into a fountain and get fucking raped by a giant cat head with eye lasers. >>737746676Faery - Legends of Avalon. An actually good turn-based RPG where you play as a fae. You can fly and you fight against interesting enemies. Takes about 8h to beat.

>>737760494I have this game and I'm excited to play it. It has some really cool ideas and I'm all for RPGs that don't take place in fantasy medieval land
>>737762270This fucking game man. I remember this game being brutal as fuck even for a roguelike. It almost relies on you to abuse the shit out of the game and it's mechanics but damn did I like it's artstyle. I'm shocked to see someone bring it up. There's some cool ideas in this game like monster genocide scrolls that are almost required for certain bullshit cheapshotting monsters.
>>737765557Any tips? I plan on coming back to it.
>>737769690This one sounded interesting. We should get more RPGs that take place in worlds that are nothing but ice and snow that are completely isolated. Was this actually fun to play?
>>737782286It's been many years since I played it but I'd say it's definitely worth playing, I remember liking it a lot. Although you might need to download a patch from moddb to run the game.
>>737771572We don't need his zoomer fans to ruin this game
>>737770818Oh man this game had one of the coolest character creators where you plan a whole character's career path and background but the game itself was garbage and most of the skills did nothing (pretty usual for the time). >>737771064Oh yeah played this one but didn't finish it. It's an interesting rpg I suppose. Got a weird unique look to it.
