Why is Super Mario Sunshine the black sheep of the Super Mario games and seems to be widely disliked by fans. I played it recently via the 3D collection and it was enjoyable. Tonally, I was a bit bored of the sunny holiday/vacation vibes after a while but besides that there was nothing wrong with it.

I loved it. Fuck the Galaxy games. 64, sunshine & odyssey are where it's at.

>Fuck the Galaxy games
based. Building a game around motion controls was a fucking mistake

i like it. Some of the shines suck to get but a lot of the levels have some fun design to them. Great visuals and sound design even if some garbage tracks like brap port exist. one of those games from the early 00's that manages to convey heat and sunlight better than any new game.
fuuuck those boat and leaf driving bits though.

It's not as influential as 64 and it's not as polished as Galaxy. It's sits in the middle where it's still a bit janky with the physics occasionally fucking up (they completely fuck up in the pachinko level) but lacks the legacy the game before it and after it have. It's not a bad game it's just the weakest 3D Mario game.

what
galaxy has waggle to speen and a handful of levels where you wiimote gimmick. the game wasn't 'built around' motion controls it was built around the gravity shit
