Skyward Sword is kino
I loved it and still dont understand the hate
ye. i blame my non super enjoyment of it on the fact that i was burnt out from playing the entire zelda series, otherwise it just straight up has the best dungeons and predungeon quests in the seriesonly thing i kinda dont like is the optional quests and finding hearts and stuff because of the disjointed nature of islands
>>737762739Forced kino
>>737763416Hopefully the next game returns to the idea and expands on the floating islands
I found the wagglin' controls to be funmy only real issue with the game is how linear it all is, but there's still plenty of exploration to be done despite that
>>737762739IS THAT ZELDA??????
>>737762739yup, it is.
>>737764223Uh...
>>737764575Urm bro didn't you hear, we HATE basedjaks here on /v/. We only like le oldfag rage comics and original artworks. Also we LOVE to turn 4 panel comics into 2 panel comics and we simply LOVE to reply "is this loss?" and not to mention we absolutely LOVE to spam "thanks doc" to every purple and green image posted in the board. Huh? Those memes are old dead and no longer funny? Stfu retard let us circlejerk the same dumb shit over and over again in peace
>>737763495this.
>>737764223so just TotK
>>737764223totk was good.
>>737765007>>737765254fuck yeah Totk was good
>>737765254>>737766852cringe
>>737762739If not for the stupid looking boss, this area had a great gimmick and dungeon.
>>737764223I wonder if floating islands will be a mainstay in open world Zelda. Could be cool.
It's fun. People don't like it because it's very much "theme park exploration," which certainty does feel like the antithesis of what Zelda should be. It's basically 3D TMC with how you progress. If they had cut out the sky and connected the three core areas in a larger world I think less people would complain. SS came out before we got beaten down by 15 years of open world slop, and I would take a game with less open air freedom like SS as opposed to empty vastness.SS and the Switch games are too far in each direction. If they took BotW's world, and them implemented the types of puzzles we find in shrines in a more natural, diegetic way, you'd have the perfect Zelda. Save some of the more complex, mechanic puzzles for dungeons.
>>737770349>beaten down by open world this makes no sense, open world games are the future. why are you so apprehensive about moving forward with gaming instead of holding out in a past of technical limitation.
>>737769383I actually really enjoyed fighting the boss cause you were slashing tentacles beat saber style but the boss looking like a Pixar reject was dumb. Give me a TP style boss if you're doing tentacle horror
>>737770491Because after playing a number of open world games, they're all the same and I think there's more creativity to be found in a deliberately crafted environment with a curated experience.
>>737771327Name some open world games, I would wager you've played multiple in the same series and you haven't paused to reflect on such a folly.
>>737762739There's alot of Skyward Sword Threads.
>>737770491>past of technical limitationyeah and now that its been done we will start seeing reversion to the mean.
>>737772942We will see every series go open world.
>>737762739Definitely is anon, hope you're having fun
>>737763094People still wanted Zelda to maintain the melancholic and atmospheric mood of the N64 era, and this game goes in the opposite direction with the franchise, and BotW/TotK kept doing that.
The only "bad" Zelda games are PH, ST and TH (solo).
>>737774891They teased a darker game and worked on one behind the scenes. People forget that Skyward Sword started out as a sequel to Twilight Princess.
I recently replayed it and enjoyed it but I still hate the motion controlsAlso Scrapper is literally me
>>737775070Phantom Hourglass isn't even that bad, it's just pretty mid. Spirit Tracks is an atrocious game tho.
>>737775070PH has my favorite puzzle in the seriesif the recurring temple wasn't such a fucking slog to revisit and instead it was all unique temples, it would be a much, much better gameI realize this guts the central gimmick of collecting sand but I don't care
>>737775643The game still has like, seven distinct dungeons. I guess you can argue they all share the same (very bland) soundtrack, but in terms of design they are incredibly varied.
>>737775529>Spirit Tracks is an atrocious game tho.
>>737775329>>737774891Atmosphere never was the problem with this game in particular since TP already failed to replicate the N64 atmospheric tone and SS at least tried its own thing there. The actual legitimate problems that were discussed about the game were the god awful pace and appalling interruptions for tutorials and condescending indications by Fi. These were the most notable problems with the game that rubbed everyone off.On a secondary note, these problems made other problems more noticeable. Like wether the novelties were novel enough or just shallow twists on a formula that was showing its limitations. Also, and more importantly, realizing that Zelda games need the exploration aspect expanded, and not the opposite. Story in Zelda games works in order to benefit the exploration, and not the other way around. in favour of telling a story that really doesn't matter all that much. Also theFor the rest, the games dungeons are actually quite good. Better than TP's in my opinion, and there's a few setpieces that are truly among the best in the series.
>>737775643Skyward Sword is basically Recurring Dungeon but replace dungeon with 3 main levels.
>>737777696>TP already failed to replicate the N64 atmospheric toneYeah, I feel like TP is edgy and dark in the same way Shadow the Hedgehog is.The devs just didn't understand the tone of OoT and MM, and what made those games special.
>>737777696Good news then, since the remaster fixed pace breakers, and I heard you can get to dungeon 1 in half an hour now.
>>737762739>Literally the coolest theme for an area imaginable>only used to travel to 3 different locations with basically no other gameplay
>>737762739Sex with Fi.
>>737778768Thats good and all but why were those problems there in the first place.
>>737763094>Wii U ZeldaIt was bound for hate. It had no other fate than hate. Hopefully further retrospectives will see it with a bit less bias.
>>737779762>Wii U ZeldaThat's BOTW.SS was a Wii game.
>>737780002>Wii ZeldaNot much better
>>737763094literally just that the Wii was not cool at the time. The fad ended, and then it just kind of hung around.
