Thoughts on the Wii U?
>$50 games that went down to $20 in a year>free online service and the miiverse network>backwards compatibility with Wii and all previous consoles on virtual console>could play on handheld and lend the TV for a movie>multiple special deals such as a whole free game if you bought a different one>actual good third party support with call of duty, assassin creed, and deux ex*sip*
wii sports golf game was kinda fun
>>737776781Nintendo came up with a gimmick and then spent half a decade trying to figure out what it's good for, only to find out the answer was fucking nothing
>>737777034Mario Maker and Splatoon. That's it.
Great with homebrew.
>>737777034It's basically switch with limited range portability
>>737776781Insanely bad.
>>737777034Nonsense. It displayed maps in games, you could do that and switch out items in Zelda, TP had a touch button to instantly switch between forms, and a physical button would switch to playing completely on the gamepad screen so family could use the TV. If you want to see a failed execution, Microsoft's solution was two HDMi slots on the One, and you could have sports game in a tiny box in the corner of your gameplay. Nobody using that. Wii U gamepad? Nintendo opted to make it the whole console. Evolution, versus genetic dead end.
>>737778608For a better example, Microsoft actually did have a WiiU gamepad competitor. It was called SmartGlass and it allowed any tablet such as a Surface or an iPad to be turned into a second screen like the WiiU did. There were even some games that had the exact same functionality on Xbox with Smartglass and the WiiU, such as the second screen stuff in Deus Ex HR Director's Cut.Sony also tried by adding second screen stuff to the Vita, and it was an even bigger failure with even less support.
>>737776781>Thoughts on the Wii U?None whatsoever.A remarkably unremarkable console.
>>737776843>free online service and the miiverse networkMiiverse carried the system. Its a shame they took it away with the Switch because we moved into a culture of overbearing censorship. I didn't even realize how great it was until it was taken away.
>>737776781Underappreciated, there's this narrative being pushed that it was a good for nothing piece of shit console with no games that thankfully was quickly replaced by the Switch but most of the Switch library is made of Wii U ports and the games that were exclusively made for the Switch like Bayo 3 were pretty bad. It's the last console with soul, it's the last console where even just turning it on and fucking around with the menu is fun in itself. The gimmick is gimmicky and execution could have been better but it had alot of potential that never went fully utilized. I'm still mad about BotW being downgraded for the Switch, that game was so obviously designed with the Wii U gamepad in mind.
probably the most confusing nintendo periodthe games were great, the console itself while overpacked with features quite powerful, but then at the same time it just had killer issues like piss-poor battery life on the gamepad and just terrible, insanely bad marketingfunnily enough the wii u is the reason the switch did well, mostly by just giving a pretty sizable library of really good games another release cycle but with not terrible marketing this time
>>737776781A DS as powerful as a console was a great idea in general and games had some creative ways of taking advantage of it.Plus you could simply say you wanted one screen and then play it like a handheld? Such a good idea it became the basis for the switch, except that the loss of the second screen is a major downgrade.
>>737780663The shame is that Switch has a screenshot button, and can record 30 second clips too. I foresee Miiverse coming back on Switch 2. You could draw again using Joycon mouse.
>>737776781It was decent in its own right, but was obviously the wrong direction to go in at the time. I truly tone deaf console from a marketing perspective.
>>737777034Miiverse was actually very soulful because it gave you direct access to people who played the same game as you. Now if I wanna find people who played a niche game I'm out of luck.
I liked it more than the Switch. I'm never paying for online on a console.
>>737776781Nintendo's worst home console, still more exclusives than ps4/xbone. 3DS was much better.
>>737780854I think the Switch did well because of the timing of release, after the Wii normalfags and casuals lost interest in Nintendo games all together but by the time the Switch came söylennials were in complete nostalgia mode with their mouths fully gaped, at the same time the PS4/Xbone were well implanted by then, not much of a competition anymore and a new console launch caught people's attention, millennials had plenty of disposable income and were eager to consoom products, the Switch and its brilliant marketing was perfect for tapping into that demographic.
>>737778608>a physical button would switch to playing completely on the gamepad screen so family could use the TV.Fair enough.>It displayed maps in games, you could do that and switch out items in Zelda, TP had a touch button to instantly switch between formsHow's that better or even necessary? If you have to take your eyes off the screen, then just make it a menu.
*kills itself if you leave it off*
whats up with all these random wii u threads and not a single CEMU thread?
>>737785485All anyone cares about emulating is BOTW
