Ok so how exactly does the switch 2 backwards compatibility work? Is it similar to the PS2 which had a PS1 inside? Is it like full emulation so basically a PC/laptop running switch 1 through emulation? I read that a lot of switch 1 games are enhanced but also that it isn't fully 100% compatible with everything and that certain switch 1 games might not even work. Nintendo is currently doing a switch 2 bundle with Switch 1 Mario Galaxy games. Should I throw away my Switch 1 and just upgrade and play all of my games on Switch 2? Am I basically upgrading to like a new phone at this point? Help!

It's a compatibility layer, like playing Windows games on Linux using Proton. I haven't had any issues with backwords compatibility personally in the various games I played. I think the only major title with issues on Switch 2 was Pikmin 3 Deluxe and that was fixed with a patch.

What percentage would you say switch 2 is right now? If not fully 100% do you think it's around maybe 97% somewhere in the high 90s? Because I'm basically going to fully upgrade and replace my switch 1 cause I'm sick of the shit performance.

I don't know what that is. Is it emulation? Does the switch 2 have a switch 1 emulator running when you play switch 1 games?

yes and no

They have a web page for game compatibility, pretty sure more than 95% of the games are compatible on Switch 2. Some more gimmicky games do require Switch 1 Joycons though like Labo or Ring Fit because of the IR sensor.

There's only 2 games that don't work, and I think one of them Ring Fit Adventure, which WILL work if you have Joycon 1's, it will not work with Joycon 2 is all.

You put the switch cart inside it and it runs. If you play it in handheld mode you can use the handheld boost mode function to make the Switch 1 game run as if it was docked.

Basically this. As far as I know, nearly every game that doesn't require Switch 1 Joycons is compatible with Switch 2. Is there a particular game you're interested about?

So should I be safe? All of this sounds good and I guess I can always just use my switch 1 joy cons for ring fit. It's good to know almost everything works.

Explain I'm an idiot.
