Sea of thieves is just gonna keep getting worse right?

It’s such shit but it’s the only game where you can steal from other players without killing them that I know. The coding is truly a work of trash duct taped together and is completely held together by its atmosphere and lack of hud. The world has been mostly static since inception, the story is so unfinished and convoluted they just gave up not that I really care. The PvP is absolute dog water jank fest but is 100% necessary to finish fights. Every update has nothing but deviate from the original formula - safe seas, multiple selling locations, diving, and even the devils roar have all made the game worse. The loot is now abundant and earning gold is a participation trophy instead of a representation of effort. PvE remains dog ass. The only thing that remains impressive about SoT is wave mechanics, steals, pacing and naval PvP combat. But being retarded gay developers they lean into anything but the games strengths and have completely lost vision of the original design intent and are completely pigeonholed with the technical load.

New PvE content is guaranteed to be shit because the game doesn't play well and PvE is designated cuck content designed to generate helpless drones for PvP players to steamroll effortlessly.
Meanwhile any change that affects PvP in any way makes it worse because nobody at Rare is any good at it. Every change they've ever made to PvP has made it worse because the people still PvPing in Sea of Thieves in 2026 have skill execution that Rare literally cannot account for. Adding new cannonballs/consumables/weapons like they have just creates more cheese and lower ttk.

I really wish the on foot combat was not so powerful, that jump spamming and twitch double taps were not the meta. The game has slow methodical naval combat that is unique, fun, and innovative; then completely shits all over it with the most spammy TDM imaginable. Food spamming, jump spamming, endlessly repair spamming, exploit spamming. All rare had to do was nerf tdm and limit repairs to make ending a fight via naval actually viable. But here we are almost a decade later and boarding is still the ONLY option if you want to PvP, and running/turning in have been buffed to high heaven. The skill ceiling buffs should have been in controlling boat (more fragile ships, more impactful wind speed boosts, no ship can sail directly into the wind etc), instead they just buffed all the ways PvE Andy’s can run, but if they do choose to fight they will get shit on so hard and fast in tdm they have no option to even play the game.

The PVE is beyond awful and the PVP is shit unless you happen to have 3 dudes with no jobs willing to sail around clubbing seals (if you can find one) for three hours. I'd rather just play EVE online

Ghosts on sea forts have trouble even finding you sometimes or enemies still get stuck in walls so the game has to auto kill them to progress

The funny pirate game that’s not that funny, kinda boring, no PvE challenge just pure grind, quests that only got easier and more mindless, tdm which is just cod but with minecraft jank. If rare had leaned more into the naval, extraction lite gameplay, puzzle questing, and randomness the game would have been the goat. Instead they leaned into PvE grinding, story, and gaminess (quests voting, diving, world spawns) to appeal to both PvE and PvP players instead of focusing on the group of pvpve players who enjoy emergent encounters the most. The best moment for me remains fighting another gally and a brig in a three way fight in the storm. Then all of the sudden a kraken appears and seeing multiple ships and a kraken in the storm at night was peak which stands out to me because in 4000 hours that’s the only time it has ever happened.

Continuing my rant but I will now fix the game

>jump cooldown, food heals overtime instead of near instant
>sword and flintlock only
>improve sword fight gameplay (add some chiv2 mechanics)
>max planks 50, max food 50, max cannonball 200. Supplies can be purchased at outposts quickly for gold
>remove all storage crate variants
>randomized islands
>remove all faction quests and shit
>faction now give randomized tall tale esq puzzles. Gold hoarder quests still end in treasure maps, Order quests stil end with killing a skeleton boss etc.
>quest starters can be found randomly on said random islands
>reduce loot spawns across the board
>remove devils roar entirely
>remove fast selling, rebalance loot. >Fewer pieces of loot that are unique and valuable

I like no matchmaking at all in these games. Otherwise it’s just another thing that gamified to no end. In short no arc raiders does not solve the pvpve equation either for me

I actually think arc raiders makes a lot of the same mistakes but the PvE is more interesting. Honestly both of these games should learn from each others failures. Both are severely lacking randomization which is fundamental in pvpve games because it creates emergent gameplay and protects the games systems from being gamified. Both are lacking a hub or social area where players can relax and show off their success.

Speaks volumes about the state of the game honestly, if its not people farming losses its cheaters or other nonsense
