You have to cast the creature and then when they're prepared you can do the spell that's listed. So technically this is just a draw 3 effect that costs 6 Mana, or on later attempts to cast the prepared spell: 1 Mana but also requiring a combat swing and 8 cards exiled from grave.

Mtg has both Collector and Play boosters. Collector booster have tons of foils, alt-art treatments, and serialized cards. Play boosters are just for drafting with at FNM. There are multiple formats to build decks for, and prices can range from hundreds to thousands, but I imagine your kid just wants to play kitchen table casual with you or his friends. Which is where Commander has kinda taken over as the entry point since it's the only format that still gets starter decks. To counter this, every deck also has to run 5-10 board wipes, and each game devolves into everyone trying to slam their OTK onto the board and hope they get to untap the next turn to win instantly. Eventually the board wipes run out and someone wins in a single untap. EDH is the worst format. Genuinely, do not get in to it. It's shit.
