Are VR horror games any good? Would it be worth to get a VR set to play them?
>>
>>737823394
Is it worth sinking hundreds and hundreds of dollars into a niche medium with very little utility just to play horror games? No.
That said Dreadhalls has been a staple horror game for me for over 12 years now and it still scares the fuck out of me when I play it alone at night.

I really don't like that they've seemingly abandoned finger tracking, it was super immersive. I know this one is supposed to TECHNICALLY track it but without the little knuckle strap theres no way to extend all of your fingers without dropping the controller

Valve are selling an accessory box that includes straps that attach to dedicated anchors on the controllers, along with the missing top strap. It's retarded that's not just included by default, but it's still something technically.

Is it worth getting a VR headset for PS5?
My PC can't do it and the PS5 is just collecting dust otherwise.>>737822519
>>
>>737832270
Sony has already given up on the psvr2. So look at what games it currently has and see if that's enough. Don't expect any other big hitters to hit the platform. I would go so far as to say a quest 3 is still a better value even if you only use it for the onboard processing. But even that's almost getting no games these days.
>>
>>737832178
nah a wireless headset should have good pass through
im willing to bet their dongle wont solve wifi lag in congested areas like apartments too i have to use an ethernet adapter for quest 3 to get a decent bit rate
>>
>>737831627
i kind of prefer monochrome desu
>>
>>737828501
Finger tracking was whatever, it was cool for a bit but that's about it. You're gonna want to get a knuckle strap regardless of fingertracking or not.
>>
>>737831627
Like the other anon said, it's a gimmick.
Are you so fucking lazy you can't take the thing off if you need to shit with more fidelity in reality? And mixed reality is even more of a pointless meme than just pure passthrough. Unless you enjoy 10 min tech demo gimmicks that can't have any genuine depth without turning it into proper VR anyway.

Why is there no good camera based / wi-fi based body tracking yet? I'm pretty sure the tech is there already.
>>
>>737833976

>>

>>737833976
Nah, I own a couple of (older, because I'm not dumping money into this shit) VR headsets, one of which has a cam but getting it to work is a pain in the ass, the other doesn't have one at all.
At no point the entire time I've owned them did I ever feel like I was missing out on anything with the lack of passthrough, colour or otherwise. Because if I need to do shit out of VR, I can just take the fucking headset off.

>>737834036
>no good camera based
Latency will be shit and compute will eat your computer's performance, if we're talking about "Just point some RGB cameras at you around the room and make the computer figure it out".
>(no good) wi-fi based
Because the resulting tracking quality's gonna be kinda shit compared to strapping hardware to you and figuring out from there.
The best body tracking solution that's come along is magnet tracking via FluxPose. Remains to be seen if there's any gotcha's as it hasn't been real-world outside-of-dickriders-and-devs testing yet, but it's the type that shows the most promise.

I fell for it.

>>
>>737825385
I think the PSVR2 is the only one that's OLED. But on PC it doesn't have HDR and eye-tracking like it does on the PS5.
Still the best headset under $500, tho. You can get eye tracking foveated rendering working with a patch.

Normal "Don't preorder" rules apply, but if you want a body tracking solution that doesn't have the problem all optical tracking solutions do (read: require line-of-sight), then there isn't a real option that exists or is coming along.
It's not a HMD, that has to be something else.

Hot Dog Horseshoes, don't think it ever goes on sale though
Project Wingman if you like flying
Beat Saber if you don't mind re-installing the song mod every update
Walking Dead if you want to kill some zombies
Hard Night VR is a shittier version but for some reason I found the mindless zombie killing fun, has jank driving too.

Even if talking just currently commercially available headsets, no there's also the Bigscreen Beyond 2(e), MeganeX SuperLight 8K, some potions from Pimax, and all the meme Apple Vision Pro / The Chinese one / The Samsung/Android ones.
Then going back in time, OG Vive + Vive Pro (Eye), Oculus Rift, PSVR the original, Pimax XR, the original Bigscreen Beyond, StarVR One, a myriad of obscure chinese ones, some of the Windows Mixed Reality headsets, Oculus Quest the original, and a couple I'm probably forgetting.

>But on PC it doesn't have HDR and eye-tracking like it does on the PS5.
Some VRChat players went and made a homebrew driver to fix those issues. Don't recall what the state of HDR is (which is kind of a meme without the software support anyway), but the eye tracking has been blown wide open for some time now. Been able to run homebrew shit on the headset itself even.

If you have enough space to throw down a small rug with a bit of clearance around you then you're good. You shouldn't be moving anywhere. Just turning on the spot. The rug tells you where you are so you can stay centered. I live in a 1-bedroom apartment and my "living room" space between my couch and TV is plenty.

None of this shit is plug and play. Every single game I've tried in VR at least something didn't work out of the box or I needed to search on forums for a response, patch or mod to fix shit.

I live in a one room apartment that's 28 square meters.
I bought a fluffy mat that is round and the diameter is 160cm or 5.2 feet.
The distance from the edge of the mat to something I could hit like a wall or smth is 80cm or 2.6 feet, this is due to my arm length, yours may vary.
So basically you need an empty space of 3.2 meters times 3.2 meters or 10.5 feet times 10,5 feet.
