The story is *entertaining* in the base sense of the word. Kirkman's one singular forte is making a story where it seems like shit actually happens, that there are some kind of stakes instead of just having characters run on a hamster wheel forever to "save the world". But the writing is shit, the animation is only technically "animation" post season 1, humors just baseline cartoon humor. The show is chock full of background-tier designs and personalities I would think were born for the meat grinder but they get worked in as mainstays regardless. I think it's just a show that's carried by the main story beats, and not at all by the minute-to-minute screentime, and I felt the same way about TWD.
