But even so you are encouraged to equip each character for a specific range. I'm pretty sure that if you want all characters to have optimal weapon ranges, you have to settle for at most 2 possible rotations, and that is if you're willing to sacrifice the ability to choose between your 2 weapons.

The team rotation mechanic is one of those things that you can get through the entire game without ever using because it's not mandatory but if you know how to make use of it you can make certain fights a lot easier. Many of the bosses - especially the optional "superbosses" - are predictable at least to an extent and you can abuse that.
