Ultimately this. I barely use the trackpad on the Steamdeck. Pretty much the only time I do it's when a game doesn't function very well on a Steamdeck so you have to use the trackpad to navigate the main menu. They function about as well as a laptop touchpad for gaming, which is to say not at all.

This part pisses me off to no end. Even if 99% of everything I play, I play through Steam.

>get rocket league during its heyday in 2015
>epic buys it, removes it from steam
>my friends play fortnite
>grudgingly play it with them
>they also play rocket league, which is on egs
>download it from egs because fuck giving epic my steam info

There's layers of absurdity in buying a game from Steam, that you can no longer buy on Steam, only to launch it on EGS that wants your Steam credentials, only to be unable to use a Steam controller to play this shitty EGS game which I'm not running through Steam, despite FUCKING OWNING IT ON STEAM.

I legitimately hope Kidfucker Tim Sweeney kills himself.

>>
>>737877467
Yes, it does. Steam Input simply sends inputs to the software.
What you wanted to say is that not every game has native controller support. That simply means you have to map controller inputs to MKB inputs via Steam Input.
>>
>>737858094
Your hands are naturally on the left stick to move and the action buttons. You never use the dpad and you only use the right stick to move the camera, which you do a lot less than using the button. It's just logical to have the main inputs on your rest hand space.
>>
>>737877560
No, I'm saying Steam Input itself sometimes cannot work in certain games, forcing you to use native controller support or a different controller driver instead.

Quality of d-pad matters in any 2D games where diagonals do different things than cardinal directions and you're not suffering any delay when alternating between cardinal directions quickly (so left right left, or up down up). Take for instance an old ass stupidly popular game like super metroid where if you hit a diagonal while single wall walljumping, you're fucked.
>you can do that with an analog stick

If you don't see the value in grip sense, cap sticks, or haptic trackpads, then yes, you should use a $30-40 Xbox controller. You are a casual gamer who shouldn't be expected to spend money on the hobby (even though $99 USD is more middle-of-the-road).

it really doesn't, people just use high poll rates because they can

Yes, and in fact is superior for emulation compared to every other controller due to the extreme customizability. I have Steam Input configs for every console and special bindings for emulator functions.

It's almost infuriating to me when streamers use emulators for speedrun practice or something, and watching them reach out to the keyboard for a savestate hotkey, over and over. Get on my level.

If you're referring to those little headless modules, they are restrained to 4K/60hz. If you're streaming to anything better than that (like my 4K/120hz TV), you have to accept lower performance.

Btw, Remote Play is just bugged. So many times I've launched a game to see a black screen, and need to restart it. I used the feature for years before I just got sick of the shortcomings. Now I use low-power devices like Steam Deck that can play most games locally, and stream beefier from GeForce Now, which works so much better than Remote Play.

Haptic feedback is nothing like a physical d-pad
>>
>>737899314
Its not unless you do thumbstick which would mess with the socd process and you'll be instant dq
>>
>>737897982
It's all 1:1 parity with the steam deck and the steam decks dpad is not 100 dollar controller material.

It also loses at minimum one feature compared to the Steam Controller 1 due to that parity. The steam controller 1 has dual stage triggers like a GameCube controller that click down at the bottom of the triggers full pull, Steam Controller does not because the deck does not

>>737899408
Yeah, it's better. Muscle memory is more important btw, so you don't want to die on this hill.

>if the Contra Test wasn't good enough.
NTA but it isn't. Anyone not huffing farts/shilling knows it's inherently a shitty test. People have been complaining about it being used as some mistaken holy grail of testing for a while now.
>le one game passing means the d-pad isn't dogshit!
How is this scientifically sound at all lmao, please use your brain
Also
>linus
lol you are the perfect cattle
>>
>>737899505
(You) don't have that muscle memory. This is an universal fact.
>>
>>737899473
Not really, you just aren't familiar with the hardware or Steam Input.
>>
>>737899492
>It's all 1:1 parity with the steam deck
That isn't true, it has more inputs and the "parity" inputs are upgraded. They didn't literally take Deck components and shove them in a controller.
>>
>>737857591
gabe figured out how to put mouse wheel on a controller and browser surfing and some of you fags are hating. You no longer need mouse/keyboard with this thing
>>
>>737899536
>People have been complaining about it being used as some mistaken holy grail of testing for a while now.
Never seen those complaints. Nor do I share them!
>>
>>737899505
Theres not easily identifiable center, people will lose track on postioning very fucking fast
>>
>>737899394
Based on the fact that the contra test can be performed on hundreds of d-pads and that linus has no opinions worth a shit.
>>
>>737899759
Play more than 4 hours, I guess? Skill issue.
>>
>>737871991
Of course it will. Are you retarded? Have you not learned this place is full of miserable poorfags and incels with nothing going on in their lives? They are not representative of anything but contrarianism, and the steam controller will sold out in an instant
>>
>>737899773
>Based on the fact that the contra test can be performed on hundreds of d-pads
Yeah, dpads are not as bad as /v/ constantly claims.
>>
Only dpad test worth a salt is sf3
>>
>>737899834
So your standards are fairly low, I understand
>>
>>737899814
I hope valve blacklist steam accounts for at least a month that use steamdb to cheat their order.
>>
>>737899834
Most d-pads suck because they're heavy dogshit. I do not miss using my NES or SNES d-pads over newer, lighter, clickier d-pads at all. Doing fast menuing on stiff rubber sucks mega balls compared to microswitches

Dave2d said dpad and input lag is good. So I'm sold

>host machine *and* its monitor turned on.
No it doesn't, I use it with my monitor off all the time. And no shit you need the PC on to use it
>>
>>737899696
Because you're too busy sucking linus's balls from the back lol
>>
>>737899662
The only new thing is gripsense which is super underwhelming because 0% of gyros usecases wouldn't put one of your thumbs on a stick or trackpad to begin with
>>
>>737899948
No, they're high. That's why I use a haptic trackpad instead of a plastic-molded dpad. But the Deck dpad is great for menus, and it looks like the SC dpad is even better!

Real talk, why does almost every shill on the site write like this?
>>
>>737900160
>I use it with my monitor off all the time
This issue is precisely why virtual monitors like SudoVDA exist, as well as dummy plugs.

Maybe your monitor just pretends to be off, or your graphics driver keeps the display alive somehow. Over DisplayPort on Nvidia, you need to keep the monitor on.
>>
>>737900405
Linus didn't post the Contra Test.
>>
>>737857716
fippy bippy but best not interact with that bait

kek way to miss the point retard

I'm going to buy it, and /v/artytards can't stop me.

Great callout! It’s because I’m being paid to share an “opinion”. Hope this helps!
>>
>I'm going to mindlessly consoom and no one will stop me
That's why consoomers are called consoomers retardbro
