>>737885515Ive never seen a controller that /v/ didnt say have a dogshit dpad
>>737860484>So does it work with non steam pc use? like GOG or retroarch?Yes, and in fact is superior for emulation compared to every other controller due to the extreme customizability. I have Steam Input configs for every console and special bindings for emulator functions. It's almost infuriating to me when streamers use emulators for speedrun practice or something, and watching them reach out to the keyboard for a savestate hotkey, over and over. Get on my level.
>>737866001I've never used a headphone jack on a controller. Like wtf, get bluetooth headphones.
>>737869234It has everything on the Deck as well as two grip sensors that you can bind freely, like to adjust gyro, or switch to a one-handed control mode for less twitchy games.
>>737880062Giant Bomb tested the dpad pretty well and said it was perfect.
>>737890905I was not as lucky as you, and after this I will not pay them a penny for such a deception.
>>737880248>no one ever likes things or even thinks they're good unless paid to do so
>>737885719Steam Link / Steam Remote Play is extremely sensitive. It requires you to have the host machine *and* its monitor turned on. Sucks if you have an OLED monitor or your PC is sleeping/turned off.
>>737891792can't you just use some random virtual display driver though
>>737886065They will definitely sell out, but I wouldn't worry about not being able to buy them. Valve will support this controller with updates for a year or two, and continue selling it for at least five more years.
>>737857591i dont have 100 dollars but i like the idea of extra buttons for modded pc gamesfallout nv is fun on pc but its shit without a controllerhaving like 4 extra buttons would be cool
>>737857591It's just that easy to buy reviews.
>>737886065It's not a 1 time drop bro, imagine doing this for any other controller and realize how silly that is.

>>737892018If you're referring to those little headless modules, they are restrained to 4K/60hz. If you're streaming to anything better than that (like my 4K/120hz TV), you have to accept lower performance.Btw, Remote Play is just bugged. So many times I've launched a game to see a black screen, and need to restart it. I used the feature for years before I just got sick of the shortcomings. Now I use low-power devices like Steam Deck that can play most games locally, and stream beefier from GeForce Now, which works so much better than Remote Play.
>>737886065>maybe I should get 3only 2 per cart, meaning it's probably 2 per week per user
>>737892409no, I mean something like thishttps://github.com/VirtualDrivers/Virtual-Display-DriverI use virtual-display-rs but that's just because I clicked on that one first and it worked. I use it to use moonlight/sunshine on a laptop that has a closed lid

>>737892527It seems like literally yesterday, Valve added a pretty huge feature to Remote Play:>Added support for the SudoVDA virtual display driver on Windows. If you have the SudoVDA driver installed and select this as your primary display in the Advanced Host Options, Steam will automatically create a virtual display to match the client display settings. No such luck on Linux, though.

>>737896547>>737895953Scuse me it was retrobit Point still stands that there's a bunch of 3rd party controllers and old first party controllers that make way more sense as a PC pad

>>737897508>>screw holes instead of clipsRepairability and flex prevention
>>737897549>I still wouldn't want to use that dpad to play a 2D game.It tested very well in reviews. Deep dives, too.
>>737897848Can you actually? On the deck I can't just bind the capacitive sensors to do anything else. Unless they changed that recently.
>>737897923On the Deck, I use the cap sticks for all kinds of functions, like changing mode shifts, action sets, and activating virtual menus.I never really use gyro, so on the Steam Controller 2, I plan to use grip sense to switch between one-handed and two-handed controls.
>>737897982Which reviews?I've only seen one where the dpad is actually mentioned and this fat fuck is going "oh yeah contra test".
>>737893763Don't forget that each trackpad is worth up to 16 inputs. So in reality you have more like 40 extra inputs. And that's before you even get to extra layers.
>>737898012>On the deck I can't just bind the capacitive sensors to do anything else. Unless they changed that recently. You can and it isn't recent.
>>737897926When did hating screws become a thing??! Was it apple?? Hilarious since people compare to apple as an insult

>>737898106>I've only seen one where the dpad is actually mentioned and this fat fuck is going "oh yeah contra test".Okay. So you saw that, and walked away thinking "the dpad is bad."Okay idiot.
>>737898281>>737898086
>>737898347The 1000hz complaint is a solution in search of a problem. Not one of the 1000hz people has posted stats, they just repeat that number.
>>737898351You said reviews.Plural.
>>737898106I've watched two reviews mentioning the d-pad and both said it was improved compared to steam deck but neither one was specific about what that meant. They might've just been quoting Valve PR, dunno.fwiw I played on my deck tons and never noticed any problems with it, at least compared to, for example, 8bitdo 2C which was so bad in that aspect I immediately returned it. So if it's better than deck, it's probably at least decent.
>>737898579I have an OLED deck and diagonals are absolute fucking dick. It is practically designed to ignore those. The dualsense d-pad isn't what I'd call good and it's much more usable.
thinking of getting one just because having to use dual sense on pc is a pain in the ass (plugging in) if you don't want to deal with pairing/unpairing between pc/ps5

>>737898698>if you don't want to deal with pairing/unpairing between pc/ps5https://controller.dl.playstation.net/controller/lang/en/2100006.htmlDude, what's wrong with you, an update has been released a long time ago that allows you to connect the dualsense to 4 different devices.
>>737898565You clearly aren't arguing in good faith, if the Contra Test wasn't good enough. Anyway faggot, Linus tested in Meat Boy and said it wasn't his preference but he liked it anyway.
>>737898693>I have an OLED deck and diagonals are absolute fucking dick.Valve *specifically* said they worked on optimizing diagonals for the Steam Controller dpad. I have only seen reviewers say that it works well.

>>737896290xbox, sony and nintendo all have chinesium components lmfaoGoing third party means you're just paying the price you actually should is all, sans your beloved corporate logo. Sometimes even with extra utility, buttons, paddles, etc.

>>737870919>for me it's the DUKE
>>737899250Haptic feedback and thumb travel is 100% customizable, unlike a plastic molded part.
>>7378989231. You have no idea how many d-pads that are not so great can actually pass the contra test2. Linus also likes ugly chinks and hates linux, how is that of any relevance
>>737899321So we have 2 reviews (plural, remember!) and you still came away with your own opinion, based on ... ?
>>737899314Haptic feedback is nothing like a physical d-pad
>>737899314Its not unless you do thumbstick which would mess with the socd process and you'll be instant dq
>>737897982It's all 1:1 parity with the steam deck and the steam decks dpad is not 100 dollar controller material. It also loses at minimum one feature compared to the Steam Controller 1 due to that parity. The steam controller 1 has dual stage triggers like a GameCube controller that click down at the bottom of the triggers full pull, Steam Controller does not because the deck does not
>>737899408Yeah, it's better. Muscle memory is more important btw, so you don't want to die on this hill.
>>737898923>if the Contra Test wasn't good enough.NTA but it isn't. Anyone not huffing farts/shilling knows it's inherently a shitty test. >>737899505(You) don't have that muscle memory. This is an universal fact.
>>737899473Not really, you just aren't familiar with the hardware or Steam Input.
>>737899492>It's all 1:1 parity with the steam deckThat isn't true, it has more inputs and the "parity" inputs are upgraded. They didn't literally take Deck components and shove them in a controller.
>>737857591gabe figured out how to put mouse wheel on a controller and browser surfing and some of you fags are hating. You no longer need mouse/keyboard with this thing
>>737899536>People have been complaining about it being used as some mistaken holy grail of testing for a while now.Never seen those complaints. Nor do I share them!
>>737899505Theres not easily identifiable center, people will lose track on postioning very fucking fast
>>737899394Based on the fact that the contra test can be performed on hundreds of d-pads and that linus has no opinions worth a shit.
>>737899759Play more than 4 hours, I guess? Skill issue.
>>737871991Of course it will. Are you retarded? Have you not learned this place is full of miserable poorfags and incels with nothing going on in their lives? They are not representative of anything but contrarianism, and the steam controller will sold out in an instant
>>737899773>Based on the fact that the contra test can be performed on hundreds of d-padsYeah, dpads are not as bad as /v/ constantly claims.
Only dpad test worth a salt is sf3
>>737899834So your standards are fairly low, I understand
>>737899814I hope valve blacklist steam accounts for at least a month that use steamdb to cheat their order.
>>737899834Most d-pads suck because they're heavy dogshit. I do not miss using my NES or SNES d-pads over newer, lighter, clickier d-pads at all. Doing fast menuing on stiff rubber sucks mega balls compared to microswitches
>will sold out
Dave2d said dpad and input lag is good. So I'm sold
>>737891792>host machine *and* its monitor turned on.No it doesn't, I use it with my monitor off all the time. And no shit you need the PC on to use it
>>737899696Because you're too busy sucking linus's balls from the back lol
>>737899662The only new thing is gripsense which is super underwhelming because 0% of gyros usecases wouldn't put one of your thumbs on a stick or trackpad to begin with
>>737899948No, they're high. That's why I use a haptic trackpad instead of a plastic-molded dpad. But the Deck dpad is great for menus, and it looks like the SC dpad is even better!
>!Real talk, why does almost every shill on the site write like this?
>>737900160>I use it with my monitor off all the timeThis issue is precisely why virtual monitors like SudoVDA exist, as well as dummy plugs.Maybe your monitor just pretends to be off, or your graphics driver keeps the display alive somehow.
